Not even sure where to start. The Galaxy, staff, sound guys, manager, security, and concert go-ers were AMAZE-balls. Ample seating, parking and genereous green room snackage. Great place to play and made us feel like we were at home. Thank you Galaxy folks!

I went to see Jenny Lewis last night. I had a lot of fun! The only down-side, which really turned me off was the aggressiveness of the security guards. I got no warning when I entered the theater, and then half way through the show the security started pushing everyone around because they don’t allow pics. The security were literally body slamming people telling them to not take pics. I was appalled by the way they acted. And the security also charged $ 10 for parking. I dont know if that is legitimate or not?!

This venue recently changed hands and names and is now called the Constellation. Not a bad venue to see a band, but unfortunately new management has left the food side of the equation sadly shaky. The wedge salad is excellent. I’d recommend it. Unfortunately that’s the only unconditional recommendation I can give. The flatbread can be good, but our table ordered two and one was badly burned. The burned one also wasn’t better than lukewarm. The chicken wings were also cold, but that was the least of their problems. They were frankly terrible. The sauce was a lot of the problem; a tequila reduction with agave syrup, it was way over-sweet, and way over-the-top with the tequila flavor. Both needed to be dialed back, and it really needed lime and salt to round out the flavor. The service was terrible as well. They appeared badly understaffed, and our waitress looked just a few steps shy of an emergency room visit, visibly exhausted and shaking. It took forever to get our order in, and it wasn’t served til the lights went dark. Far from ideal. I was glad I’d snacked before. I wouldn’t advise eating here until the new management has their act together. The concert experience was good, though. An extra black mark for having a men’s restroom«attendant». I don’t need the audience, nor the pressure to tip despite providing no service.

I have to start out by admitting something — I’d never even heard of the Galaxy Concert Theater until my New Years Eve event was moved there to satisfy a larger crowd. I was a little hesitant at first(mostly because of the fact Unilocal said the establishment had closed, and slightly because of the poor reviews), but as I danced my way into the New Year I couldn’t think of a better place to be enjoying some stellar beats with some of my closest friends. There’s a coat check right when you enter the venue, which was perfect for the crazy cloudy weather over NYE weekend; and plenty of rooms to sit down and get down. The first night there were different types of music in each room, from ATB to live bands, and various bars all over the place; but the second night the focus was all on the main stage for Tiesto(!). Now, I’m sure I’m slightly biased considering this was my only trip to the Galaxy, but it was absolutely fantastic. I’d love to come back and go to more shows here, can’t wait to see what events they come up with next!

Wow. There are some really unfavorable reviews of this place. I don’t see what the complaints are, honestly. For such a small venue, it’s actually pretty cool. The parking is free, security at the entrance is pretty quick and unobtrusive, and drink prices are to be expected. Not to mention that the bar also accepts card, which is so convenient! What can I say? I hate the fuss of cash when it comes to getting my drank on. I’ve been here for two separate concerts now. The first was in the smaller concert area to see the Blue Scholars. The venue was perfect for the small crowd of people and regardless of where you stood, there wasn’t a bad spot to watch the show. The more recent concert was to see Scott Weiland in the larger concert area and I thought that area was great too. The stage was decked out in Christmas décor and while it is larger than the first stage, there is still an intimate feel to the place. It was honestly the perfect place to take in the peculiar scene of Scott Weiland singing Christmas Carols.

No free tap water, or even cups to go to the bathroom to get water and bottled water is $ 3.50. Not a good idea when you have a bunch of underage kids getting smashed. Drinks are way overpriced and the guys that make them have bad attitudes. I asked one bartender if i could get some water or speak to a manager and he told me he could lose his job and threw me a plastic water bottle. Go figure. Don’t come here unless you need to. For the record, warpaint was amazing, this review has nothing to do with their performance.

I can appreciate and give them more credit for bringing in bands in which would bring in too large of a crowd for Detroit Bar. We came to see Crystal Castles which always draws in a huge crowd. The sound system was pretty bad and we were less than excited to find out that if you want to sit down in a vacant booth you must pay(per the douche gal that told us) «you must pay a lot of money to sit here and buy dinner» First off the seats were vacant? Second off cheeseburgers are not my cup of tea third we were buying cocktails. So go scratch. LAME. We were told by another NICE cocktail waitress that we can just grab a vacant seat. So, we did and we were spoken to like a group of children. Oh, yes which brings me to say. I don’t dig all ages shows. There were a lot of little emo preteens here. Which I think is cute that they have good taste in music but I really don’t want to be in a show with a bunch of kids or I would of gone to see Yo Gaba Gaba In the end we had a good time watching Crystal Castles but, I seriously would rather drive to LA to see a band I dig in a venue that doesn’t have kids mixed in the crowd and where you don’t get snuffed for setting in a vacant booth.

Came here with a group of friends Tuesday night for the Dubtroit relocation party — it’s a good-sized venue for the type of dubstep show they put on. Location is a little odd and I had a bit of trouble finding the Galaxy. The bartenders were nice, albeit a little slow, but noting too drastic. I was only there for two hours or so and I know the vibe of a dubstep show is pretty different from other concerts, but the Galaxy was fun. Oh yea, and the bathrooms were so huge(definitely an upgrade from Detroit Bar’s two-stall fiasco).

Great size venue with large pit area and plenty of seating(although I think there is a drink minimum for tables). Free parking lot(Take that, LA!). Excellent sound system! It doesn’t really gets too crowded or crazy, compared to shows I’ve been to in LA. Restrooms are clean and a plenty. Artists I’ve seen here: Lee Scratch Perry, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, The Aggrolites, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and other local bands.

The Galaxy is basically a dive concert venue. no other way to describe it. The food sucks, the service is even worse and the place smells vaguely of urine and sweat but it’s one redeeming quality is the fact that it’s a small venue that occasionaly has some pretty good bands. You basically have to weigh the good with the bad here. if you like the band enough to deal w/all the cons then it’s worth it… but I wouldn’t come here to see someone you’re only«meh» about as it’s not worth the hassle. On a good note, parking is abundant and free as they have a big lot attached.

I’ve been coming to shows here since 1996, so this location is hard to review without removing my rose-tinted glasses. Sure, it’s a little gross and weathered, but they’ve played host to a number of awesome shows that I’ve attended over the years. Most recently, I came here with a friend who was close with the band playing, so I got to experience things from both the backstage and concert floor for once. I now feel bad for the bands who play here, because the dressing rooms look like third-world housing. One of the members commented to me that they haven’t changed in over 15 years, maybe even never. Now that I’m over 21, I no longer have to pay for the 2 drink minimum, so that’s a plus. Drinks are pricey, too. 2 Bud Lights &3 shots of whiskey came to $ 35 w/o tip. Ouch. And since the bar is located right above the floor & dining area, it’s not easy to hear a word any of the bartenders are saying. I’d suggest heading to the bar closer to the bathrooms if you want to place a quick order. There’s usually no line. It’s a fun atmosphere, though. The floor is open to everyone, so you can move freely about the venue without too much worry about being relegated to a specific tier, like many other venues enforce these days. They also have a dedicated smoking patio for everyone who wants to work on their lung cancer. I hope they never shut this place down. I heard it was in trouble last year, but it seems as though whatever issues they were having have been cleared for now. I’m used to driving up to Los Angeles for every decent show now that House of Blues in Anaheim stopped hosting 90% of the metal shows they used to, so having a venue that’s only 20 minutes from my house is a major win.

Went here a few weeks ago for a Bone Thugs N’ Harmony concert and I’ll tell you what, it was one of the weirdest experiences Ive ever been to for a venue show. First off, we made reservations to dine in,(well not a bad idea dinner/show right or wrong?) Anyways once inside this place is roomy, you have the mosh pit and two or three tiers of diner table levels, then you have the bar on the far backside of the place. It has a better layout than Anaheim’s House of Blues because of space. You may want to lower your standards for the food they serve here, because its bar food. We ordered the nachos and a chicken sandwich(not exciting) but it was enough to get us full and soak-up some alcohol. The waitresses here are awesome they would follow-up making sure if you would need anything else. If you ask for dessert late like we did kitchen is closed on the late waning hours. The show started at 8pm, I understand front acts show-up first and all but man, there was like 9 – 10 small bands that performed before Bone show-up almost right before midnight! During the show I kept telling my gf okay BONE should be out right about now, but no it was always a mid-carder showing up(I mean there was a few of them that weren’t bad at all)(most of the shows I go to, only a few front line bands would show) but the main eventer here took too long, it even got my gf making a Unilocal review about the Galaxy Theatre during the concert. I was drained and lost the excitement. It was my first time dining in for a band show. I wasn’t comfy seating in one of those cheap-ass plastic chairs for hours, it would’ve been cool being right in front of the stage to get that raw experience but I would second guess that idea due to the fact the wait before the Main Band took way too long to come out, my feet would have died out there but who knows maybe depending how buzzed I would get, no pain? First time at a concert I didn’t break a sweat to stink up the place, but hey I finally get a Bone thugz T-shirt with Eazy on front on our way out. Im a Bone Thug fan Krazy and Wish bone wasn’t there but who cares.

Cons: How about calling this place Stinky Theater?! Smells like wet garbage and weed. The only reason to have dinner here is to have guaranteed seats. Other than that, food here is not worth eating. Really?!? 4 hours of front act before Bone Thugs n Harmony?!? That’s false advertisement, it shouldn’t have been Bone Thugs concert… What about Front Acts with the special appearance of Bone Thugs and Harmony??? Pros: FREE — LOTSANDLOTSOFFREEPARKING… that’s what the 1 star is for.

Dub City Music Festival What an AWESOME fest! My husband had the opportunity to be on the line up for this event and we had a great experience. The management for The Dub City Music Festival was AMAZING(Thanks, Van!) and very accommodating to our needs. Best we’ve ever come across in the industry! As for the venue itself, it’s a pretty good sized theatre with general standing room up front(viva-a-mosh-pit) & in between seating sections. The booths are usually«reserved» for dining patrons. Highlights & Low-lights: *Parking is okay but looks a little small if it’s a full house; Free parking *Cocktail staff isn’t the best *The food & drinks are pricey *Average food: Can’t ruin chicken strips, chips & salsa, and potato skins. Sauteed mushrooms weren’t bad either. *OoOoOo security is on point! Boy do I feel safe! *No bad seat in the house unless your behind some big haired mama! *NOTOILETSEATCOVERS… pretty gross. Guess I’ll have to squat or improvise! Ew! *Outside patio for smoking is a nice touch *Backstage area is a little small behind the stage itself but has lots of rooms provided for the talent(&& even THEY don’t have toilet seat covers in their private restrooms) *Are those refreshments for the talent? My husbands the talent… WELL… DON’T MINDIF I DoOoOo! LOL– that’s what I WOULD have said if I were thirsty! *It was a descent sized venue for a festival *UUGH, can you NOT write the box office address on the ticket when it’s not even CLOSE to the actual venue! WHODOESTHAT? We got mixed up & your employees don’t know how to give directions! =/ Overall, not a bad place to perform & watch some rad gigs! I would BYOB& get my parking lot pimpin’ on the next time I visit The Galaxy! .wellllll… I do support the cause, so count on me to buy a few rounds, BUT just a few!

Whoa! Came here last week for a novelty event: midget wrestling. Woo-hoo! So my girl & I sat in a dinner booth & were re-located to a table with some other random people because we «didn’t have a dinner reservation for the booth». Alright… so the pre-midget wrestling drinking & chicken wing munching was a little like eating dinner on a booze-cruise with strangers, but what-the-hey, I’m an outgoing individual. I noticed that it took my girlfriend & I a good 10 minutes just to get a waitress to take our order(despite the fact that we’d already flagged down a couple, if not 3, waitresses)…but the 5+ attractive man groups surrounding us got much better service from our(ahem) «amply endowed» waitress. Whatever, we let that slide– we were there for the show anyway. The icing on the cake was: 1) There is no awning on the patio outdoor for smokers. 2) Our waitress came back TWICE with the wrong bill… for which we waited a minimum of 15 minutes in between each one AND had explained the mistakes each time. Buuutttt… she was blonde, so… 3) Weird entrance. This place was hard to find & I can’t get past the fact that I paid over $ 50 for church-pew style seats at a table with strangers that had sub-par views of the stage. Give me a freakin’ break! I never saw an option on the website or on ticketmaster offering a «dinner booth»; neither did the ticket taker, nor the host offer an opportunity to purchase or to hear about seating upgrades or future seating promotions. Very mysterious. I even asked the host how one would procure such«prime seating», to which he simply replied«you have to call ahead». Uh-huh.

What a shit hole! We came to see our friend’s band open for The Misfits last weekend. Drinks are expensive. Bathrooms are disgusting… they had no toilet paper or paper towels — luckily they had napkins at the bar. Trash cans overflowing. This place seems like it has potential, it is really big… but the layout is just weird to me. I hope to never have a reason to come back here again.

Setting aside the fact that we paid for tickets to see midget wrestling and ended up hearing more crappy punk rock bands than seeing lil guys fight… here’s my .02 on the venue. Easy to find and Easy, Free parking. If you buy $ 10 worth of food per person, you come early and get a good seat. Improv style. Refer to Mel’s review for a way to avoid ticketmaster fees. Those glowing lights on the stairs make me feel like I’m trippin’. For reals. What the hell with NOTOILETSEATCOVERS in the women’s bathrooms? Dislike. There’s no frisking going on at the door, so do yourself a favor and bring a flask. Drinks are expensive.

I really don’t know what to think about this place. It isn’t a bad place to see an event but it is a little run down. The guy working the door was super nice. They have tables for you to sit at so you can eat/drink during the show but you have to make reservations beforehand. We were not aware of this when we got there and were told they were reservation only. It looks like there isn’t a bad spot in the place to see the stage and the bar area was very crowded the whole time we were there. We were there for the micro wrestling federation event and were up front in the pit area close to the ring. Even though it was crowded, people weren’t pushy. I would get there early to ensure you get a parking spot in the lot because you may get towed if you park at Home Depot or Kaiser. They had a bathroom attendant in the ladies restroom, while she was nice, I felt that it is a pointless job. I am seeing a crappy show(the wrestlers were awesome but the bands in between each match were not my flavor) in a mediocre venue, don’t try to spruce up the place with a bathroom monitor. I can really get my own paper towels, thanks.

Went to see a band, déjà vu hit once I got there since I know I have come here a long time ago to one of the«rave» nights. So weird. What really cracked me up was the fact that they served fillet and swordfish for their dinner service, but their wine is served in a dixie cup! That’s classy right there, hahaha. They had bottles of Dom too, wonder what they give you to drink that out of!?! I actually like the relaxed lounge vibe while watching a band since you can sit at the tables for the show. I’m lazy, I know. The air was blowing away but it wasn’t really cold so it still got hot. With the cheap tickets, not too bad of a place to go though.
