If you’re reading this review, then you’re either considering starting a journey in vocal technique for yourself or possibly for your child. Let me tell you straight off: Guy is the BEST and ONLY option for vocal training in Southern California (and probably further). Why?
1) Credentials wise he’s simply one of, if not the most accredited vocal teacher out here. He was a level 5 (of 5) star certified master instructor for Speech Level Singing (the highest you can go), traveling to do seminars for the company and determining whether or not aspiring coaches were ready to be let loose on the public. [SLS being one of the only ‘real’ international institutions for vocal instruction. Google it. Michael Jackson was a student of SLS to give you the idea of star power there] When SLS split off, he and a collection of other master instructors created the now Institute of Vocal Advancement where he’s also a master instructor and board member. You’ll be incredibly hard pressed to find anyone else with more teaching experience.
2) He’s simply just a wizard when it comes to tricking you into getting in a mix. There are times when progress may feel like it’s plateauing, only to come in for your next lesson and have a breakthrough. He’s seen it all. On top of which he’s one of the nicest, easiest guys to get along with. When we aren’t phonating, we’re talking up a storm. Walking out of his studio is like coming out of therapy. You just feel… happier.
3) He’s not a liar. 90% of vocal instructors try to impose this ridiculous image that ‘IN JUST ONE LESSON, YOU TOO CAN BE THE NEXT STAR!’. Vocal lessons are like going to the gym. You don’t walk in, throw some weights on a bench press, do a few reps and walk out with a 50″ chest. It’s impossible. The amount of brain activity needing to be coordinated all at the same time to find a proper mix is VERY, VERY, HARD. And unfortunately, most teachers will hide that fact from you. Guy however, will be the first to tell you that this is a journey. You get from it what you put into it. Yes, you will have to practice. A lot. There are no shortcuts. If there were then we wouldn’t place any value on talented singers. But Guy makes the process fun. He’s incredibly perceptive and is always pushing you to do better. Not only will the quality of your voice be progressing, but you’ll be doing it in such a way that if you do have to sing every night you’ll be able to survive it.
Now it’s quite possible that by the time you’re reading this there will have been all manner of reviews posted. But just know that when you’re selecting an instructor that there are always drop outs. People who couldn’t put in the time and effort to see the results they wanted. We live in an era of instant gratification. Vocal instruction is not that. However if you have the patience and drive to work towards a skill that you will carry with you your entire life, then there is nobody else to have guide you through it.

Guy is my daughters second voice teacher. The depth of his musical knowledge and gift of teaching was a perfect fit. Her vocal range is greater and has matured. Her passion is opera and he has an expertise in this area of music. Blessed to have found Guy.

Guy is knowledgeable and able to put you at ease instantly. He’s an acclaimed vocal coach for good reason; he’s great at what he does. After every session, the student is given a recording to practice with.

My son took a few supplemental vocal lessons with Guy back in 2010. He was having trouble connecting his bridge. He had previously tried to take lessons with Brett Manning and his studio, which was in Nashville, and my son felt like he was unable to progress past is block. This went on for a few months, when I decided to look up a local vocal studio to have my son try out to see if maybe a change of instructor would be a benefit. IT DEFINITELY WAS! Within like 2 lessons, my son was getting into his mixed voice a lot more easily. I really liked the fact that he recorded the lessons and gave my son practice CD’s to help him practice. Awesome experience.
