Delicious! My favorite poke bowl. Extremely fresh and flavorful. Everything I’ve had was tasty. Not the cheapest place for lunch. But quality food. I miss their black rice.

It was good. but nothin too special. Maybe I’m just not that much of a poke bowl person. Of course, more than half the bowl is rice. The highlight was receiving my order pretty fast.

Drop by at 2:30 for a late lunch. Ordered the coconut mango bowl. Love it! The coconut flavor in the rice is something I’ve never had before. Kinda wish they gave a little more fish but it was a decent amount. Will be back when I come to DTSA.

Located inside 4th St. Market, MAR is likely able to satisfy your seafood cravings. I went with the Surf and Turf Quesadilla which for the day was filled with teriyaki chicken and plenty of shrimp. They didn’t skimp on the cheese and the tortilla was nicely crisped, never getting soggy. Seemingly made with jalapeño and avocado, the creamy green salsa available on the counter added a needed element of spice and flavor to the quesadilla. The Black Rice Horchata was unique and not too sweet, with the rice flavor at the forefront. Although I wasn’t blown away by this particular meal, I enjoyed it and will return to try some of their fresh fish options like Poke and Ceviche.

OMG Vegan Poke Bowl! To die for. Sweet potato on top of white rice, zucchini & carrot noodles topped with avocado & seaweed flakes! A must try & not just for vegans.

Picked Mar for lunch today and wasn’t disappointed! The Mar poke bowl was good – light on actual poke, but the flavor was there. I loved the zucchini salad, which was a unique touch and played well with the textures of the other ingredients. A good poke bowl but not the best I’ve ever had. Three stars. What really knocked me off my feet was the black rice horchada. OHMAN. I would drink that all day if I could. I will come back just for that! Phenomenal and unique. Five stars for that, so four for my whole review.

Best poke bowl I’ve had so far. Plenty of ahi tuna and the right amount of vegetables and rice. Good flavor and more. If you notice my picture shows a empty counter but thankfully we got here before the rush crowd. Well worth any wait but thankful we didn’t have to.

Random stop for food at this cool place that looks like a warehouse but has different kiosks of food. We decided on Mar. That’s the name of the place and we got the Mar Poke. It was very big with a ton of fish for a reasonable amount of money. I’ve had poke bowls in the past but this one was fresh worth tons of fish. The jalapeños sauce that is on the side made the entire dish.

I got the Poke bowl and I have to say it was delicious. The fish was really fresh and the veggie to fish ratio was perfect. I will be back for sure.

I LOVE the MAR Poke bowl. It’s the only item I’ve ever purchased. It’s close to $ 10 for a regular size. Or maybe it’s called small. Very filling for me. Plenty of sashimi but I could always use more. I get the black rice and mixed fish.

Wow, what a hidden gem! I’m definitely a fan. I was in Santa Ana on business and wanted something sushi-like for dinner. Although this place IS located in Santa Ana, it was a bit more of a hike to get to from my hotel than I was expecting, so I had high hopes that it would be worth the trip. MAR is located in this cute little hipster food hall, which reminded me of an indoor food truck park, sans trucks. Obviously I came here for MAR, but there were tons of other places in there that I wouldn’t mind trying. There are tables and chairs for people who want to hang out and eat, but I expect most people take their food to go. I stopped by about hour before most of the places closed, so it was pretty quiet. The guy at MAR who helped me was very nice, and had my food ready for me in about five minutes. I ordered the MAR Poke Bowl, which came with ahi and salmon(or you can just get one or the other), plus green onion, minced garlic, pickled ginger, some kind of sauce, on a bed of zucchini and carrot strings(very pasta-like), plus avocado and seasoning. I had them leave off the pickled ginger. The sizes are regular and large. I had a regular which was perfect for me(and my appetite is certainly not petite) so I imagine the large is pretty huge. There are a bunch of other bowls including the Crunchy Shrimp Bowl, Fried Calamari Bowl(I plan to try this one next time), Cali Poke Bowl(french fries at the bottom!), Coconut Mango Bowl, and more. You can also BUILDYOUROWN! I’m a huge fan of the build-your-own/create-your-own option at any restaurant, being one of two picky eaters in my household. They also have teriyaki bowls and tacos. Prices were fair, my bowl was $ 8.75, create-your-owns start at $ 10 for a regular size, and pretty much everything else is in that same ballpark. Tax in included in the price. Overall, very pleased and hope to return again soon!

Can only vouch for the drinks. Loved the black rice horchata! Mango lemonade is almost nectar thick, but smooth and taste more like mango. Guava lemonade is milder and taste more like lemonade.

We walked over here for a light meal and I ended up getting a poke bowl as my main meal. It wasn’t busy when we went so there was no line. I asked the lady what she recommended so I got a pre-made bowl. MAR Poke Bowl I got mixed poke with green onion, pickled ginger on top of seasoned sushi rice, shredded zucchini and carrot topped with avocado and furikake $ 9.75 I thought it was good! I mean, nothing like«OMG this is the best poke ever» but it wasn’t bad tasting! I like the touch of furikake on top of the avocado!

Scallops, chorizo, bacon mixed in pepper and onions in a spicy may between sweet bread buns! Delicious scallop dog. You can get this yumminess at Mar located at 4th Street Market in Santa Ana. Mar is a Mexican seafood restaurant with some Asian kick. Along with the scallop dog, we had a poke bowl. Poke bowl had ahi tuna, shrimp, scallops on to of carrots, zucchini, and rice topped with avocado. It was good, refreshing, and hot heavy. it did lack a bit of sodium but had a ginger flavor to it. The mango lemonade was very good. Definitely a must try on a warm day. Overall, Mar was pretty good.

«Eat Good Food» …just not here at Mar. Anytime I see poke, I see gold. As I was strolling down 4th St Market, I saw the word«poke» beaming at me and I just naturally gravitated towards the register and started ordering. Cali Poke Bowl — French fries topped with pico de gallo, green onion garlic ahi poke. It took them some time to call out my order so I assume it was made to order but it tasted anything but. The fries were served at room temperature, topped with a ton of pico de gallo and ahi poke that was supposedly a garlic flavor. It was more of a shoyu flavor than anything. Unimpressive. Crunchy Cali Bowl — Sushi rice, crab, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber and roe topped with panko, eel sauce and furikake. The sushi rice was extremely under cooked. I like my rice on the firmer side but the rice here was almost unbearable. The texture completely ruined the dish, it made it unenjoyable. There wasn’t much spicy tuna and the crab was mediocre. This bowl was a complete dud. Do not order it! Mar has a great concept going for them but the execution is a total flop. You are probably better off building your own bowl here, just like all the other BYO poke spots out there.

Mar offers Poke bowls, sushi bowls, ceviche, AHI burger, teriyaki burrito, scallop dog, and quesadilla. Apparently they no longer have pan roast, although the menu on the PDF file on their website says otherwise. In terms of Poke they have a couple of set bowls: Mar Poke, Vegan Poke, Cali Poke, and Pokelocos bowl. Of course there is the option to customize one’s bowl, or as they like to say: BYOB(Build Your Own Bowl). The process is broken down into the following steps: SEAFOOD(up to 3): Ahi — Salmon — Calamari — Shrimp — Scallop. VEGGIES(up to 5): Minced Garlic — Pickled Ginger — Green Onion — Cucumber — Jicama — Sweet Maui Onion — Jalapeño — Mango SAUCE: Traditional — Gluten Free add 1.00 — Paleo(+1.50) EXTRAS: Crab 1.00 — Spicy Tuna 1.50 — Avocado 1.50 — Tobiko 1.50 Macadamia Nuts 1.50 — Crunchy Garlic Chili Sauce 1.00 Furikake .50 — Sesame Seeds BASE: White Rice — Black Rice — Zucchini — Carrot — Salad A ¼ pound of the sea food goes for $ 9, 1⁄3 pound for $ 12, and ½ pound for $ 15. For my selection I went with the Ahi, Salmon, Calamari, Minced Garlic, Green Onion, Cucumber, Jicama, Sweet Onion, Traditional, and Black Rice. I opted for the ¼ pound portion size. In retrospect, I should have added crab, guacamole, and done a half black rice and half zucchini for my base. I forgot to order these items as there is no menu at the counter and the dude taking my order was taken aback by someone ordering a BYOB and forgot to mention some of these items. The sea food was fresh and I really enjoyed the tuna, salmon and calamari. Other poke places like Pokinometry and WOW Bento offer up to 5 items. This is a place where I think MAR can improve in. Besides the black rice tasting amazing it is also healthy. The bowl was filled with so much rice, that I was filled by the time I finished my bowl. The only negative with regards to the rice is that it was so HOT, temperature wise. I probably could have cooked my raw fish in there, LOL. Typically Poke places serve the rice luke warm. There was no issue with the rice being hard like some other reviewers pointed out. Overall this is a very good option for Poke in DTSA, and I’ll be back

Not a bad choice if you’re browsing through 4th street market! Their food is reasonably priced, but tasted just ok. We got the poke bowl and it was pretty big, but most of it was rice. The fish looked good, but was warm, probably because the rice underneath was heating it up. The sauce wasn’t as good as most other Poke places, almost like it needed a little more sesame oil? You could also custom make your own bowl, but it gets pricey! The shrimp tacos were good! The sauce and salsa accompanying the crispy shrimp were refreshing. The sauce had some sort of a coconut taste to it, was really good. The ceviche wasn’t good, but rather bland and watery.

An excellent concept is Marred by poor execution(see what I did there?). I absolutely adore Ceviche. I can’t say it any simpler than that. When I was told a Ceviche«specialist» had opened in the 4th Street Market, I made it a point to check it out post haste. MAR is all seafood, all day. Poke Bowls, Ceviche, Scallops and Pan Roasts. That is it. That is all. Add a 85 degree Santa Ana afternoon and you have the perfect stage set for Ceviche lust. I happily plopped down $ 8.00USD and watched with great enthusiasm as my Ceviche was prepared before my eyes. Laughably fresh Mahi Mahi that had been marinated in Blood Orange Habanero juice was tossed with Pico de Gallo, and then served with a dollop of smashed Avocado. Tostadas flanked the Ceviche and acted as delivery mechanisms. The seafood was world class, as was the rest of the ingredients. So why the 3 stars? Good question! The 3 stars are because the heat index of this Ceviche was Hiroshima-Super Fly-TNT-Nuclear. I can tolerate a good deal of fiery heat but this was off the charts and nearly inedible. To qualify the heat I had Vietnamese, Mexican and Korean friends nearby to try a taste themselves. All agreed it was hotter than a $ 25.00 pistol on a busy Saturday night in Texas. In fact, I tossed the container ¾ full. It is a damn shame too, that was some wonderful fish.
