U-Haul Moving & Storage at State St

Avoid this place if you can! I needed to rent a moving truck after my grandmother passed to transfer her belongings. I called and asked how much because it was a two city stop and the girl on the phone said she could give us a $ 70 discount to cover the cost of the extra miles. She said to come in the day of and that we had made a reservation only call if we needed to make a change. Got the email thought everything was set in stone.
The day of they couldn’t find my reservation I showed them the email and was told that it was just a quote. I tried to explain the situation, that the lady I spoke to didn’t mention this.
I was very upset and asked to speak to the manager but of course I was already talking to the manager. I said I was told this price and I have the email with the price given she continued to say «I can’t give you that price» so I said just forget it I need the truck I have no other option. Her tone was extremely rude.
BUT what gets this negative review is the fact that she was talking on the phone right in front of me about the situation to the other store manager down the street laughing and saying «I don’t know how she got that idea» «I know I know»
Terrible customer service it’s just not worth it specially if you are in stressful situation like I was.

I have been storing here for almost a year. I often leave messages for Stacy the manager, that take weeks to return.
I chose a unit that had elevator access. However, the elevator has been broken for over 3 months now and they say they have tried to repair but they can’t get the parts. I was given a discount for 1 month of $ 20.
When I asked again about the elevator situation, I was told that it was not going to be fixed and that I can’t get a discount again. The young man also said lucky to have the unit I have. (Really?) He then told me that they were going to remove the elevator from the other building.
I am very upset about this since I specifically chose this place because I could put my stuff on an elevator instead of going up and down stairs. I am a middle aged woman.
In addition, when I went to get some of stuff out of my unit, 3 weeks ago, all my stuff in the front of the unit was covered in saw dust. They had just repaired the floor outside my unit and must’ve have cut the boards right there. Needless to say, this is not what I would want or expect.
I am waiting now for 3 weeks for Stacy to return my calls. I have left multiple messages.
I am looking into renting from another business in town.
Follow-​up: at 1:30pm today Stacy finally called me. She was defensive and said she tried calling me several times and left messages. I did not have any voice mails and only 1 missed call from last week. She kept saying she’s done all she could do for me and that it wasn’t enough. I responded by saying, that it seems like all you want to do for me is tell you can’t do anything for me.
She didn’t apologize for the sawdust in my unit, for the attitude of her staff (Enrique). She is a nice person, I believe, but she does NOT know how to run a business or treat her customers.
She did not even TRY to address 1 of my concerns. All she wanted to do was be defensive and make excuses. I will be moving out this week.
DO NOT RENT STORAGE FROM THIS PLACE!

This U-​Haul Storage Facility was okay. The manager/​staff are friendly and nice. Easy to work with. As for the facility, they just repainted it so it looks new. I never had any problems with losing items or any security issues. The car isles are a little small and you have to be a careful driver. Plus the hours of operation are only till 7pm some nights.
If you want a good cheap storage facility, I would go with this one, but read your contract and ask questions about charges. One thing I got frustrated with is, I check out 1 – 2 days after my payment date. The charge was still pending on my credit card and they would not prorate my storage rent. They charged me for the whole month even though I no longer have an account with them.

Buyer beware! Sold me a smaller locker than advertised (I can’t help the way its listed sir) and lost original reservation.

NEVER get a trailer hitch installed by these guys ! I bought a custom (as in «ordered and made for my specific make/​model/​year vehicle») hitch from U-​Haul, planned to install it myself, but after reading very clear and explicit instructions decided the job was a bit beyond my time constraints. I brought it back to U-​Haul and contracted w/​them do the installation.
I was quite surprised to see they did not follow the installation instructions. Those instructions detail the removal of my car’s existing frame access covers, drilling bolt holes for the included hitch mounting bolts & brackets, and replacing the covers. They instead chopped open the frame of my car to make it expedient and convenient for them to install the hitch. They also omitted installation of support brackets that came in the kit.
I now have sections of my frame missing because the installer, rather than follow the explicit OEM installation instructions just sawed off sections of my frame to make it easy and quick, thinking I would not notice. Both the manager and installer tried to BS me that the installaion was on par with hitch installation industry standards and that the omitted bracking was not necessary.
The round holes that used to be where the access covers fit were sawed away during this butchering, The covers themselves were not put back on. In fact, the covers were kept, along with the missing braces, by the installer until I demanded they be given back to me.
I subsequently brought the car home, installed the omitted bracing myself but now I have gaping rectangular holes exposing the internal metal of the vehicle’s frame where there used to be original weatherproof undercoating, and sealed rubber access covers.
I will next take U-​Haul to small claims court if they refuse to reimburse me the cost of having the fram repairedand re-​undercoated to the conditioin ist was in before.
