Harbor Liquor

An ok choice for a liqour store if you need something quick. Could be better service. Usually I tend to get glares from some of the people there and I’ve been going there for the past year. Better prices can be found elsewhere.

The selection of beers and liquor at Harbor Liquors is decent, its nothing amazing, but for a corner liquor store it is pretty good.
What earned Harbor Liquor the 2 store rating is the service. I work in customer service and I know how it can be a pain sometimes but I also know how important it is to the experience of your customers and to your reputation (and for me providing cheerful service keeps me in a good mood). Calling the service at Harbor Liquor sub par would be an understatement. I never know what attitude to expect from the guy behind the counter (it ranges from bored, to indignant, to downright rude). After my last experience their my friends and I decided to avoid this place whenever possible even though it is the closest liquor store to my house.
I agree with AK that supporting local businesses is awesome and important. However if that business is run by a «grumpy guy» behind the counter who routinely «overcharges you,» as AK has stated their are probably some better local alternatives.

Hands down Harbor Liquor is one of the better liquor stores in town. They have a great wine selection for a corner liquor store and a great selection of beers as well; I usually find that their collection is better than what you would find in a whole foods, Safeway, or other larger grocery store. Many times I’ve come here after buying beer or wine at the grocery store only to find that they have it for a few dollars cheaper.
Their selection of hard liquor is hard to match in Santa Cruz. They have a better selection of liquors and wines than U-​Save, Bonesio, Mission Liquors and Lloyd’s Liquors. This is a great liquor store, but not as great as Verutti liquors which has a bigger selection and is usually cheaper.

Best neighborhood liquor store. Family owned, they have everything you need, and the price is right unless the grumpy guy is overcharging you… which he tries to do sometimes. You just have to correct him. If you become a regular there they guys are very friendly. I recommend going here and supporting your local businesses!
