I always seek out independents books wherever I travel to support. This bookstore focused on spiritual subjects, with a great depth and range of topics. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative, with pleasant wait staff. I restrained myself with effort, and only bought 4 books there, which I have been enjoying ever since!

If you a fan of science fiction or fantasy books I would definitely check it out, but the books are very rare first editions and such that are only suitable for people who want to collect books, not read them. For example, they have a signed novel that Lovecraft gave to Sonia Greene for Christmas in 1922, quite a treasure, but it is over $ 6,000! It is a bit more of a museum than a store in my opinion, but if you are a true collector you couldn’t possibly find a better place to buy rare sci fi.

I can not believe this place was closed right today on my last day, right when I find it out. It looks amazing.

A wonderful experience, walking through the doors of Barry Levin’s bookshop – a throwback to yesteryear, when the owner of a book store knew each and everyone of his books, and could tell you their history. For lovers of science fiction and fantasy, this is a treasure! The prices are reasonable, and some of the items(an ashtray from the spaceship of Dark Star, original paintings by J. Allen St. John) are not to be believed… the owner, Mr Levin is a distinguished and erudite gentleman, who obviously loves his work, and boy, does he know his literary history. A friendly and pleasant experience, whether to buy a rare first edition f Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, or just find a trade copy, which Barry gets routinely, of the latest Stephen King… what a superb place.

This is a rare book shop, not a general interest of in-print bookstore. So expect absolutely beautiful first editions and collectible books in the science fiction, horror, and fantasy genres — at rare book prices. Barry Levin has a wonderful stock, presented well behind glass. He occasionally stocks older fanzines, but not as a matter of course, and not currently. I inquired about a few Clark Ashton Smith books — there’s a whole section dedicated to Arkham House titles — and they ranged in price from $ 125 to $ 500 or $ 600. Outside my general reading budget, but if you’re a collector, I’d contact Mr. Levin to see if he has what you desire. But Jason’s right; the store’s not intended for foot traffic or casual readers and buyers. These are rare books. I’ll go back to talk to Mr. Levin and see what’s new, but I can’t afraid to be a regular buyer. Impressive.

Ok this place is cool but I wish it was more accessible. First, I buzzed in and was met by an older gentlemen. I told him I was looking for a decent copy of Radio Free Albemuth by Philip K Dick, I figured I would read it before i started working on the movie. Now he did not have it but had mainly books in the 1000 – 25,000 dollar range… first editions and stuff. They also have original science fiction artwork… Geez I cant afford any of this stuff and wouldn’t buy it if i could. I ended up going over to the library and getting the book for free. I would go back to look around but don’t want to get the guy pissed off… like a museum but hard to just browse.
