This review is really for the Magnolia store in the West LA Best Buy but there is no Unilocal entry for them so I’m leaving it under the Santa Monica store. I purchased a full 5.1 home theatre system, 65″ TV, blu ray, receiver, Heos speakers in every room, etc. It was a fairly expensive system(for me). The process of purchasing it was fine — a few minor issues but nothing I couldn’t live with, but starting with the installation it’s all gone downhill. Let’s see… 1) the installers never tested all of the equipment and I had to run out to the street to flag them down as they were leaving because there was no sound, 2) the sales rep switched out the blu ray player I had ordered because it hadn’t arrived by the installation date. This wouldn’t have been a problem(quality was equivalent) except it turned out to be a used item — a Netflix account was already saved on it which is how I found out and then he admitted it was an open box item and had been returned, 3) I’m on my second service call with three separate problems within the first 60 days of owning the equipment. Two of the problems stemmed from the used item by the way, 4) I’ve been waiting two weeks for my most recent service call and no appointment has even been scheduled. Seriously? If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t. Not with Magnolia.

Great guys helped me select and install two Panasonic big screens. They charged only $ 90 for in home set up and delivery and their installer new exactly what he was doing. They match the lowest prices on the market for the TVs and saved me the trouble of dealing with Best Buy their parent company.

This place is the absolute worst. Very unprofessional! They never return calls. I spent over $ 2000 three weeks ago, and still have not received my equipment or a call back from the manager. I don’t understand how this place is even in business. The positive reviews for Magnolia posted on this site are obviously from employees within the company hoping to gain business. Trust me; don’t waste your time or your hard earned money! A total rip-off for the amount of money spent.

I went in to buy a new flat-screen, and was ignored totally, despite my being the only customer in the store. Hmmm. Could it be that I lacked a «Y» chromosome? I think so.

This is a great place to do research on new TV shopping. They have the coolest newest TVs and projectors. Clark is one of the guys there who answered questions for us and showed us all that you could do and buy. Wow, wouldn’t it be nice to have and extra $ 30,000 to $ 50,000 sitting around just waiting to be spent on a TV system. Clark was very knowledgeable and courtesy. He certainly was not a pompous condescending ass. Which he have easily been. He made I eye contact with me(the dumb girl). He talked to me too– not just the hubby. Clark is a smart one. He realizes that the women can certainly influence their men! However, being the consumers that we are, we didn’t buy anything from them. They are a high end retailer that sells at List prices. But, if Clark was an operator at one of the internet sites that we’ve looked at– we definitely would buy something from him! Its really hard to compete with prices online. Someday we’ll have that private screening room in that mansion!

Magnolia is a high-end home theater retailer. It is a good place to compare screens and projectors, ask questions, and see what is possible if you have an extra $ 30,000. However, the prices here are high, and for actual purchases, you would do better to shop around.
