Great service! Super friendly people! The sushi and miso were delicious! Got a combo lunch special, what a great deal.

I often come here and love it. But today there was a new chef, and the portions in the chirashi bowl were greatly reduced. Usually 2 nice pieces of each fish, but today they were very thin sliced, rolled into circles, and only 1 piece of each fish. Great service, but the skimpy portion made me give this 3 stars instead of 5. I will come back in a week or 2 and see if the old chef is back…

I moved to Santa Monica last March and this is my FAVORITE place to eat. The sushi is amazing! The sushi is affordable and did I mention delicious. If you haven’t tried Sushi Hanashi it is worth checking out.

The most glaring problem with my only and probably last experience here was ordering yellowtail belly and not recieving it. I know with complete certainty that I was not served the sushi yet the manager insisted I was. Regardless of whether or not I was right or wrong you don’t want the customer feeling they have been ripped off. After spending over $ 150 you’d think that they might appease you. On an overall flavor and taste review I would say it is pretty average, not terrible but also not extrodianry. The service was pretty quick and relatively adequate. My only other issue is there was only one waitress serving the entire restaurant. There are TV’s to watch the games on just about every wall making it easy to view from about anywhere in the restaurant.

The house salad dressing was disgusting and the server refused to take the salad back because I already touched it. How am I supposed to taste the salad without touching it? I had to pay for an awful salad Not once did the server check on us, I did not receive a single drink refill nor the ginger I ordered Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced The rolls were good though

Our server’s name was Joanne, she was super sweet and kind. My brother and I came in around 7pm. I had the seafood udon noodle soup, the flavor was good, but I wished they gave me more than one shrimp in my soup. The sushi was full of flavor. Definitely go here if you’re in the Santa Monica area.

Since this is walking distance from my house, this is my usual sushi spot. Although To Go/pick up orders take longer than expected, it’s still great quality. The sushi chefs are great and interactive, which makes us excited to be there.

My FAVORITE local sushi spot. Very friendly service, delicious sushi/dishes, and very fast! They even offer me complimentary miso soup while I wait for my takeout order. Not to mention daily specials and good happy hour. Stellar

I wish I could go back in time and not have water my time or money. My friend and I stopped by for lunch and both got the Chicken Teriyaki plate. The best thing on that plate was the Tempura. The chicken was tough as though it’d been frozen, the teriyaki sauce was excessively sweet(I’m not one to complain about a sweet sauce), the rice was a joke and to top off the experience a hair was on my plate. In review food was gross and to make matters worse a hair was hiding under the tempura i’d already eaten. Both of us had the urge to vomit. It was disgusting.

Omg the red blossom roll OMG the salad in the middle is fresh and lite the rolls are perfect little bites of salmon crab and avocado wrapped in tuna. So yummy will come back for this!!! The fish is fresh the prices are reasonable and the rolls are well portioned. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because it’s small And dark inside.

My overall experience with Sushi Hanashi is something that I haven’t experienced much before compared to other sushi joints. I came along with a friend of mine and ordered the Hanashi Combo and Red Rock. I would have to honestly say that the quality of fishes were fresh and the Red Rock was a bit spicy, but so addicting! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area or from other areas! I came all the way from Koreatown btw.

Me and my friend were passing by and saw the sushi sign which made us eager to check out this place for the first time. Now I feel so lucky to add another sushi place on my favorite list. :) Exterior of the place is very ordinary, nothing so special about it, and so does interior with neatly organized tables and seats with very friendly sushi chefs and servers. We set at the bar as usual when we go to other sushi places and ordered some nigiri sushi and sashimi. Chef named Brian treated us tonight and he never stopped to amaze us with his unique and intriguing combinations of ingredients and sauces that stayed perfect harmony with generously portioned sushi/sashimi. They tasted just AMAZING! No words can describe it well enough for them. I’m already planning coming back with my family for his unforgettable sushi. Thanks a lot Brian! I will see you again soon. :)

Christmas Eve after sunset, everything’s closed… driving around, stumbled upon this place… omg, sometimes you just get lucky… Absolutely wonderful, great atmosphere, very friendly… and the food is excellent!!! Amazingly fresh sushi, well-crafted rolls… allow the chef to do a specialty(he did one for me on my squid/octopus), you will not be disappointed… Every sushi place I go to, I order a ‘Dynamite’ and every place prepares it differently… try theirs, it’s a wonderfully tasty bowl that you will share around the table… I now have a new food place to look forward to in Santa Monica /Venice… if you’re around, seek this little jem out!!!

I would give this place a solid 3 stars. I was not OMG obsessed with the sushi but I didn’t despise it either. It’s a good place to go but it’s by no means an upscale SugarFish. They automatically start you off with a miso soup free of charge. You can’t go wrong with that. I ordered the red blossom roll first. It was delicious. Complex flavors and textures. An overall good dish — even though it’s $ 15 I would recommend it. The spicy tuna on a crunch rice roll was phenomenal! Probably my favorite dish. The tuna is spicy and the rice was so crunchy and fresh. I would order this again. I also had a cooked salmon from the chef. I loved this dish! It was flavorful and the fish melts in your mouth. The sake and beer were cheap. We ordered a small hot sake with a large Sapporo for $ 8.99. That’s a steal and the sake was good quality. Overall I would come back here if I had no other options for a sushi place but I wouldn’t rave about it to my friends.

Not my first time here, been here a couple of times. Consistently good food and good service, that’s what makes me came back though there are many Japanese restaurants around that area. Hanashi has been one of my favourite Japanese restaurant when I’m thinking of where to go for lunch. Sushi is really fresh and was generously sliced. Combo A is my favorite combo, with chef’s choice of any 6 pieces of Sushi and 6 pieces of California Roll. It never fails to put a smile on my face everytime, felt so contented after my meal! At the end of the meal, there is a pretty-looking orange that they served as desert(sweet and juicy!). Saw on the white board that they do have fresh Oysters ½ dozen @$ 6.99, Oyster and Uni Shooter too! Will try that the next time and update my review.

My boyfriend and I came here during the evening. The place wasn’t too crowded and the service was all right. They forgot one of our rolls and it took a pretty long time for our check to arrive. I didn’t like the way the sushi rice tasted. It tasted stale and there wasn’t any hint of vinegar in there. It was really odd.

I’m a huge fan of Japanese food and noodles in general so I kinda have high standards for this, and this place was just average for me in terms of flavor of the udon noodle soup and California roll I got. We came during lunch for the lunch specials and I got the udon soup noodle and California roll deal. I actually wanted the hot soba noodles but they didn’t have soba although it was on the menu. Miso broth tasted too salty for me(barely tasted the miso tbh). Hot udon noodle soup: 2⁄5 I have to say I was pretty disappointed as the broth was lacking… I’ve had better tasting instant udon purchased from Japanese grocery markets. Noodle quality was not the best either, not the resilient chewy type but more of the type that tastes«cheaper» for lack of a better word. California roll: 3⁄5 I think I’ve just been spoiled with all the good sushi I’ve eaten in lil Tokyo and lil Osaka but this was only slightly better than the sushi found in random supermarket fridges. Although he was obviously new, the waiter was really sweet. Owner was also nice and I actually liked the interior design of this place. Sufficient for random ‘Americanized’ Japanese food cravings but if you’re into authentic you should go elsewhere.

my latest obsession: amaebi(sweet shrimp) sushi. hard to find and when there’s supply, i leave VERY happy. Sushi Hanashi never disappoints. i’ve managed to always get an order in and it’s been available every time– head perfectly fried, shrimp raw, sweet and lively topped with tobiko. AMAZING. i was skeptical at first… since they put on blast their HH every day from 3−5pm(30% off their entire menu). not only a FANTASTIC deal, but their sushi is always fresh and their portions are so BIG, so their rolls will come with a LOT of rice. that’s my only complaint but i’m still impressed with this place. i have ordered a la carte, combo meals and rolls and everything was delicious. the Marilyn roll was absolutely divine but the sweet shrimp holds a special place in my heart here.
