Wandering around Santa Monica with my wife, all I was craving a juicy burger and tasty beer. This place was a perfect craving satsfier. The wife had the LA burger, I had the NY burger, and we split some tots. Killer pit stop with fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked burger, and plenty of tasty beers to choose from. This place is a great little spot to hide in while you devour some grub. I caught myself thinking what an ideal neighborhood pub this would be. I will not hesitate to try this spot again.

I came here with some coworkers to celebrate a friends birthday. It’s walking distance from our office so it wasn’t much of an issue for us to walk a couple blocks to come here. When we arrived it was a packed house. With nearly 8 to 16 people coming we needed to find great seating for everyone. I was really happy because there were TVs all around the bar area and enough so that I could watch the NBA playoffs. One of our friends who frequents this bar a lot told us that there is actually an upstairs mezzanine level that has seating and televisions also. It’s not necessarily private but will feel like it and might be better suited for a party our size in a packed house. We didn’t care as long as we could sit, watch sports, and enjoy a happy hour, that was all we needed so we went upstairs and it was actually much better than being downstairs. The seats were more comfortable and it was more quiet than the normal bar area. It took a while for our waiter to come but when he came he was fantastic. He explained that everyone had called out and he was the only waiter at the time serving basically the entire bar. He told us to be a little patient until he got some help but he would tend to all of our needs as quickly as possible. I don’t mind extra waiting when I know why. Clearly one person manning and entirely packed bar is a very hard feet to achieve. I wouldn’t hold that against him nor the bar plus we were watching the NBA playoffs so we didn’t matter much. He provided us all with happy hour menus and asked if we had any order request at that’s specific moment. We all wanted beer because who doesn’t want beer? I also ordered chicken wings(Sriricha and ginger flavored) and tater tots(from the bartender’s recommendation). To my astonishment my food came out very quickly and I tip the waiter extra for that. The wings were an amazing mixture of flavor but not spicy and the kick of soft ginger. The tater tot’s or nothing special but the sauce that was sprinkled on it gave it a different taste. I believe it was seasoning salt but I’m not sure. All in all I highly enjoyed both. At that with a Hefeweizen beer and a $ 15 bill and you can’t beat that with a baseball bat. I will gladly come back here because of the superb service and great taste of food. I would especially recommend trying out their happy hour!

The best wings and beer selection around! Honestly the only reason why im only giving it 2 stars is because the horrible service me and my coworkers experienced. I work a block away and used to come pretty often. One night we had pitchers of beer and siracha ginger wings, when we were finishing up the blonde guy that was bartending that night(seems to supervise) came upstairs to simply tell us with an attitude we didnt tip his waitress enough and in an offensive manner, walked back downstairs. We tipped $ 10 for a $ 54 check for just serving pitchers for the most part. I will NEVER forget how offended my coworkers and I felt. Dont plan to ever step foot in 4th and Jane’s.

Great bar with really good food too. Definitely get an order of the tots to share. Good selection of beer and good happy hour deals. Bernadette is a very pleasant server… Don’t go somewhere on the promenade, just go around the corner to this place. :)

Best place in downtown Santa Monica I’ve found for a big beer selection and really good food. I want the recipe for their spinach and artichoke dip, but they need to include more of those DELICIOUS house made chips. Thus far we haven’t tasted anything we didn’t like. A plus is you can become a connect four master. :) vegetarian friendly.

First time I walked in, I turned right around and left because the bartender had such a sour attitude. The other day the smokin’ hot girrrrl bartender was a delight, however. Tots knowledgeable, AND they serve Pliny(bottle). They were out the day I came in(story of my life, sista’), but the fact that it’s on the menu is beyond stellar. All the other beers housed here are top-notch, too; read: Allagash et al. Will most likely hit this joint up for food at some point and update appropriately. PS: Mama’s not really into Ovie & Co., but supposedly this place is *the* spot for hockey fans.(Was quite surprised when I read how much these boyz take home, though):

Great ambiance with lots of great energy and good vibes! Love this place! Lots of beers on tap! Give the samplers and try! It’s a good amount of beer and a great way to try different types of beer. I had the bartender choose a selection for me and I liked all the ones he chose!

The wait staff is friendly and helpful, it’s conveniently located next to a parking garage and one of my other favorite Santa Monica spots, Harvelle’s. Convenience and staff aside, I wasn’t a huge fan of West 4th and Jane. It’s a small place, where it’s first come, first serve style seating — something I didn’t realize. We got the last, tiny table in the place, wedged in between the front door and the back of a booth, where the people next to us were practically shouting in our ears the whole time. As far as drinks, they have a large selection of beer, some wine… and that’s it. I personally prefer more variety for drinks, and the white sangria I got(since it was a happy hour item) was pretty watered down. Add that to the really bland, overcooked fish and chips I got, and I just wasn’t impressed. The rest of my friends all seemed to enjoy their food, so maybe it was just what I picked. I wouldn’t rule out coming here again, but I won’t exactly be rushing back, either.

A pretty neat pub around Santa Monica whose charm is tucked away behind a unassuming façade with a green overhang. However, inside is everything you’d expect from a nice pub. A couple TV with the sports on(there are a few small TVs, so there is a little to be desired there is you’re looking for a sports bar). But the wide beer selection is on point as they carry everything from ballast point to six point to drakes to delirium tremens. They also have a happy hour here that starts at 4. Beer under 8% abv is $ 5. Tater tots are $ 3.5. Bummer on the abv, but can’t complain. Service here was good as well. Overall, if you’re looking for a chill bar with a wide selection of beer, this is the place to go

I can’t wait to go back here. After a beer at a pub and appetizers at a seafood restaurant, my boyfriend and I were looking for one more round of beers and nibbles. I’m so glad we found West 4th& Jane. Lots of beers on tap to choose from(including Strand — yay!). We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip(served with crispy, fried pita chips) and were very happy with it. The vibe is laid back and natural. I’d almost compare it to a coffee shop… but with beer. There are games(Connect Four!) to play with while you sit at the bar or in a comfy booth. Easy going and fun!

Walked into this place on a nice Friday evening and was immediately greeted and seated by their friendly staff. I ordered their fries with an order of their hot wings and i highly recommend you try their different aiolis! They have a magnificent variety of beers as well from local breweries! Perfect for a little date spot or a place to grab a beer with friends. They also have a cool lounge upstairs in which you can play connect four!

The worse treatment towards a client I ever experienced in Los Angeles. I never been mistreated from a bartender in a such blatant and disrespectful way like he did to me and my mother last night, after a great party of New Year’s Eve. It was totally unnecessary. Me and my mother felt very offended.

Great place for football! They should advertise it as a NYJET and a GIANT bar to get more New Yorkers in there from Santa Monica… They are definitely there. The specialty beers are nice and great but a bud light or corona light option wouldn’t hurt them as I have never seen that bar packed. On a Sunday anyway.

I know everyone comes here for the wings. I did as well with my boyfriend and a guy friend on Friday night. In my opinion, the wings were just OK. They were big wings but the BBQ sauce I got wasn’t my favorite and I definitely prefer if my wings have a little crisp to them.(And just saying I’m a little biased since I’m part Korean but I definitely prefer Kyochon’s wings hands down any day over the wings here. I know that’s in a completely different part of town, but just saying). The atmosphere here is definitely dive-y sports bar which is great if that’s what you’re looking for.

Deduct a star for the insane noise level(true, it was Saturday night and we sat toward the back) but still, we could not hear ourselves across the table and we were a party of two. I did like the large selection of beer and not a huge menu, but better than average turkey burger and pulled pork on a brioche bun. It does have a second floor with a few tables so maybe we’ll try that spot next time on a non-busy night.

Always have had a good experience here, this place has a great craft beer selection with a knowledgeable staff. Bonus points to any place when they have Pliny the Elder available. I was also introduced to the excellent Joe IPA from 10 Barrel Brewing Co. here, that I will hopefully be drinking again soon. On the food side, I’ve only had the wings, but they were fantastic. I ordered the buffalo, which were plenty hot, wet, with tons of meat on the bone(tried to make that not sound dirty… couldn’t).

This place is my go to for sports, wings, and great beer. I love wings, and it was almost impossible to find a wing spot that wasn’t attached to a pizza place and then… West 4th happened. They have a Wings Wednesday special which gets you a basket of huge juicy wings for half off and their sauces are so nomy. And if you don’t get the tots you must not like yourself very much. The bartenders and servers area always great and they know beer. The best way to know a beer place is legit is if they get Pliny, and these guys do on the reg. Just gotta ask for it because they don’t just gab about it to everyone(as they shouldn’t). As for the sports watching, they have a ton of TVs, great sound, and they won’t kick you out for being there all day on Sunday.

So I’m a loyal Untapp’d user and when I discovered this ‘Founder’s Hangout’ was in Santa Monica, I added it to my list to check out next time I was in Southern California. We usually make it up to the Santa Monica region at least once during our trips. We stopped in on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch and the place was dead. We know the rest of world wasn’t on vacation like we were, but it was odd to be the only people in there. No big deal; we weren’t going to let it ruin our good time. We ordered a pint & some tots to share while we decided what we wanted for lunch. The tots were crispy, salty little bombs of potato goodness. I could have eaten the whole bowl myself. For my meal, I went with the LA Burger: ½ lb grass fed beef with thick cut American cheese, lettuce, tomato &1000 island. The burger was tasty & cooked just the way I ordered it. The double patty was a little much to take on and I have to admit I couldn’t finish it. But it was for no lack of trying. Great selection of drafts & bottles for every beer lover out there.

Review is for drinks only. Came here after dinner at The Misfits… Great selection of craft beer. I was able to get good framboise(I don’t actually drink beer but I do like lambics) which was served in a Game of Thrones glass(which I really wanted to bring home but didn’t!) Seemed a nice crowd with good atmosphere. The first Men in Black was on(on silent!) which did give me a giggle.

A very basic bar and sports lounge area with food that can get by. Maybe I missed the daily special or a seasonal dish but the photos on the Unilocal reviews gave me the impression that they had more and exciting choices. My(grass fed beef) burger came up to about $ 14 with tax/tip. I know you’re paying for premium meet but the burger seemed a bit small with 2 patties served on a long plate. Sadly, it doesn’t come with fries which would’ve made the price more bearable. It was worth a try, unfortunately I didn’t have a lasting impression that would want me to come back.

つº oº つ RAISEYOURCUTLERY つº oº つ West 4th and Jane is pretty low on the burger radar as far as I know. Places like Umami Burger are ubiquitously admired and appreciated for their craft, and for good reason. But gastropubs like West 4th and Jane are terrific finds because they’re so unexpectedly great. No one had mentioned this restaurant before my first trip, and it causes me to wonder how many undiscovered gems there are in Los Angeles. My party was especially eager to eat as much as possible, which is generally a good thing to be a part of if you enjoy consumption as much as I do(also helps with the review ;), there’s that too). We started off some of their«famous» tots. I say«famous» because given the low notoriety of this place, that word might be a little generous. But damn, do those tots deserve fame. SOGOOD. They were perfectly salted and had a perfect crunchy exterior. Plus they came with ranch, which is a kickass dip for these things. We also ordered plenty of wings, we picked up at least one order of the following: Fire Sriracha-Ginger Smokey Watermelon BBQ They’re all fantastic, especially the Smokey Watermelon BBQ. Never tasted a chicken wing quite like it, the flavors are subtle but are present enough to give you a unique taste. All of the wings are outstanding, among these they also offer Buffalo and Mango-Habanero. If you’re still reading you may still be wondering why I give West 4th and Jane such praise, and really just comes down to the burger. They specialize in burgers made from unusual animals, and I was thoroughly stoked to take them up on their Australian Kangaroo Burger. I can understand how that may offend some sensibilities, I have heard some liken eating kangaroo to eating a koala bear. Well, suck it up because kangaroos are delicious. Truly unique flavor and a texture similar to bison. The Kangaroo Burger’s extravagances don’t end with the meat, this particular burger comes topped with goat cheese, pico de gallo, arugula, and cilantro-lime aioli. Everything about what goes into this burger is outstanding. I love arugula on burgers, it adds a slight bitterness to the flavors and one can’t really go wrong using goat cheese. The little touches are nice as well, like the slice of pickle and that it comes served on a wooden board. I felt pretty fancy eating food off of a wooden board, just sayin’. If you have the opportunity to eat awesome food off a wooden board, SEIZEIT. — The Gourmand League

We stumbled upon West 4th and Jane after searching for good beer bars in the area. And yes indeed, the beer selection is pretty good. The atmosphere is really cozy, too. However, the service and ridiculously overpriced bottles leave a lot to be desired. We were quickly greeted by the bartender who seemed friendly enough but was slightly pushy in recommending the most expensive beers and food on the menu. He brought out the list of the bottles on «sale» and highly recommended an imperial porter by FiftyFifty. The«sale» price? $ 34! For a 22 ounce bottle. We didn’t know anything about this brewery, but a quick review of the other beers on the menu confirmed our hunch that these beers are super, super overpriced — even«on sale». For example, a 22 ounce bottle of Stone Brewery’s Burning Rosids, sold at our local Trader Joe’s for $ 6.99 was on the list for $ 26(!!), now on sale for *only* $ 22. WTF?! I understand that bars much things up, but this just seemed plain wrong. It made me feel like this so-called beer bar is really geared toward people who are into the trend of craft beer rather than good beer itself. As far as what was on draft, it was a good selection and the beers were priced a bit better(most pints were in the $ 8 range). However, they were out of the top two beers I wanted, and I ended up getting a beer I’ve had many times before. I was the DD and we were ready for our bill. Our bartender chatted with us again and asked us how we liked the beers and so on and then proceeded to pour and bring me another beer. I was thinking, is this on the house? Nope. He brought it to me assuming I wanted another one even though we asked for the check, and then he seemed all put off when I told him I didn’t order it or want it. Their food menu seemed really overpriced, too, and it’s super meat-heavy(vegetarians and vegan, AVOID.) There’s just too much competition in Santa Monica to tolerate overpriced food, beer, and meh service.
