This was a great experience! we stayed for two nights and were lucky to get in because they were booked when I wrote initially. Our room was small and located toward the front facing the road. We didn’t mind the space constraints because we only used it to change and sleep between outings. Paul(the owner) is hilarious and Kathy(who returned all my emails promptly) was kind and informative. Overall, a wonderful experience, we will book sooner next year!

As has been adequately addressed Paul brings this place to life! It is conveniently located and priced well. The property itself is spacious, which was great for our little English Bully to hangout off leash while we made Smore’s at the fire pit. Rooms were clean and stocked. And despite a minor issue upon check-in(one which Paul addressed right away) we were pleasantly surprised and completely satisfied.

Four stars for the value. It’s a motel, but the cleanest motel I’ve stayed in, and certainly has the friendliest host. The proprietor, Paul, is a character– very nice guy, funny, will talk your ear off, but someone who makes you feel at home. Room was very basic, but it was clean, and good for the price. We just needed a place to shower and sleep. And the walk to town was short and pleasant. Much closer to town than many of the other more expensive B&Bs in Saugatuck. Would stay there again.

Recently called twice to attempt a phone reservation and no answer. Was delighted to find that they had a web reservations system which showed 3 queen rooms and 1 king room available the Saturday night we were arriving. Made reservation request, submitted credit card info and received e-mail confirmation of the reservation request. No follow up for 24 hours so I called again and got a hold of the gentleman running the place. He flatly told me ‘Nah, we didn’t accept that reservation. Two-night minimum and we don’t have any rooms anyway.’ I inquired about the availability as shown online. He simply replied, ‘Yeah, that’s been a problem all summer.’ No apology or suggestion for alternate accommodations. I’m sure this guy has no trouble selling out his little motel all summer, but that doesn’t mean you have to completely lack customer service. I called around and luckily found another much nicer option at the same price. Too many nice places in Saugatuck/Douglas to need to deal with jerks. Quick update: Received an e-mail stating«We are sorry, we are not able to accept your reservation request.» on the morning AFTER the night of our intended stay. Real nice folks. ;)

Perfect for the price. Clean room though pretty spartan. I agree on skipping the coffee in the room but the rest was just fine. Clean Clean Clean. What more do you want.

It had been a looong day of driving from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with both mum and grandparents, and we had no idea where to stop for the night. For a rare stretch of road I got a signal on my phone and frantically Unilocaled a decent place to stay the night. With a name like Captains Quarters, how could we go wrong? To be honest, we looked at some other places nearby(The Timberline, the Hooten…) both were a little cheaper but seriously divey. I made grandma unbutton her shirt and see if we could get our room for $ 69. It worked.(I have no shame, and neither does Grandma!) The sole proprietor, Paul, is the Cap’n himself, and what a rascal! He was most pleasant to converse with, had some great stories, and can recommend stuff to do in Saugatuck. He told me this motel is actually the oldest one in town, and he had to do some massive renovation to the place. Now it’s perfectly cute and charming, and very close to the«main strip» of the town – which is utterly adorable. I highly recommend skipping the styrofoam coffee in your room(sorry, Paul!) and walk to Uncommon Grounds, the local roaster in town. Nice to know little motels like this can still exist.

A very good bargain for the area. It would be a little bit of a hike to get to downtown Saugatuck — there was lots of construction so we drove every time — but the rooms are fine and the folks there are very nice.

Nothing fancy, but for the price you can’t go wrong. Clean, updated rooms with working TVs and air conditioning. Short drive to downtown Saugatuck and Douglas. Vibrating beds for only 25 cents. Okay, that vibrating bed thing is a joke. It’s now 50 cents.
