Been eating here since I was a teenager. So about 35 years. This evening, they were short one cook. However, the manager on duty quickly went into the food preparation area to assist in expediting the meals for a crowded restaurant. Every business has its problems with staff. Can’t be helped. The food was excellent, as usual, and well worth the wait. The oyster cocktail contained very fresh oysters. Literally could taste the ocean in them. Not slimy at all. Waitress brought exactly the right amount of saltines! Sweet tea was like nectar. Had that great«chewy ice». I had the scallops, shrimp, and flounder fried combination with fries and slaw. I asked for my fries to be cooked hard and crispy and they were done exactly right. The seafood was fresh, obviously cooked in clean fresh cooking oil. Very adequate amounts, too. Had enough left over to make dinner for the next night. The waitress was very very attentive and kept my tea glass full. Very reasonable price. The downside of my visit were two things: 1) the décor is is bad shape. Needs remodeling badly, and 2) I had some dried food from someone else’s meal on my knife. However, I didn’t have need of it, so I overlooked that. However, the sanitation personnel need to watch that. The business did receive an 89 out of 100 on their health inspection which isn’t good. Overall, I highly recommend Carey Hilliard’s. Excellent food, good price, nice people. See photos I included.
