Didn’t stay there but booked and cancelled in advance of a work trip. Trying to achieve the simple tasks of getting my credit card refunded turned into a nightmare with no follow up or engagement from them. This speaks to a low level or service, apathy, or a combination of the two.

I booked 2 rooms for my graduation day. I requested to be having an adjoining room since my grandma is 78years old and need to be taken cared of. I also told them that she’s in a wheel chair so we need ground floor rooms since they don’t have elevator. They told me they won’t be able to give us an adjoining room due to their occupancy. I told them i’m fine with it as long as we are closed together. They gave me 2 room keys for the room that they told me was next to each other. But apparently it was all 2nd floor. The lady at the front desk run to us and apologize that she gave us 2nd floor room by mistake. So i came back and told her«it’s ok just give me another room that’s in the ground floor» The lady couldn’t find anything and called the general manager to come in and asked her to help her to find a room. She gave us 2 rooms that are just next to each other according to her. I came into one of the room and another guest’s belongings are all in there. I got upset and came back to the front desk and told her everything. While i asked her for a compensation, she told me that i booked a smoking room and she just tried to accommodate me by moving me into the non-smoking room. I told her i am fine with smoking room as long as it’s clean and doesn’t smell like smoke. She blamed me for what i booked and i didn’t give them a call after i booked the reservation. The way she talked was very insulting, unaccommodating and was very rude. I couldn’t believe a general manager would do that to a guest. She again gave me a room key to a ground floor room that she said is a non-smoking room. Apparently when I got into the room it smells like smoke so hard. I told her i am not joking at all and i got really upset. I tried to cancel the reservation with the reason of they are very disappointing and unaccommodating. One of the employees told me that i should try to call Best Western Center to cancel the reservation, but they talked to the general manager and she wouldn’t want to refund our money back. It is very inconvenience of us to stay with such a rude and unaccommodating field. I couldn’t believe that big hospitality brand such as Best Western would hire someone like the general manager who is very rude, insulting and impolite to the guest. I require her to apologize but she never apologize to my family.

Worst Western — Far from Paradise Stayed here on U of I, Fathers Weekend 2011. It was the only hotel with availability. You snooze — you lose. This is a pet friendly hotel which is a bonus because we were able to our bring dog. However, we didn’t expect to be greeted by the hotel’s own pets: cockroaches. No joke. It’s what we saw when we immediately walked in the room. We would have left, but there were no other hotels available. The room was one of those open-to-the-outdoors type of hotels. So, you have to deal with the headlights, noise and weather. The heater in our room made all sorts of noises and every time it cycled-on, it woke us up. There was a bonus in the tub… when you took a shower, you also got a bath because the tub drained very slowly. This is very handy if you want to soak your ankles when you shower. Of course, the sewer smell from the vent was a little off-putting. Unfortunately we forgot some items in the room… and they were not recovered. Apparently they must have thought our clothes would look better on them than us. Seriously, I left a $ 400 Mountain Hardwear jack and my wife’s winter jacket in the closet when we checked out. We called the next day… no signs of them. I consider that theft. I would rather sleep in my car that stay here again. I would give it negative stars if I could. Sorry Mr. Patel — I won’t be staying at your hotel ever again.

Well, I can’t give the most complete review. I definitely stumbled into the room in a haze the one night I spent here, but I don’t remember anything being out of place when I crashed. The next morning was much clearer. After grossly underestimating how easy it would be to get a cab to the train station(got quoted by the taxi company 15 – 20 minutes), my friend and I were in a bind. We asked the front desk to call a cab for us, and was told that she would see if one of the employees could shuttle us. Great! Or so we thought. As the lady first helped another customer at the desk. Then took a phone reservation. I thought we were screwed for sure. Luckily, after all that she finally called our ride which came quickly — it happened to be one of the owners. We made it to the train with minutes to spare, which included a quick detour to pick up some things from a friend on campus. So the hotel itself was completely acceptable as a place to say, but I must commend the owner for going above and beyond. Next time I’ll try to remember more about my stay…
