Stopped by for lunch and food was on the average side. Miso soup tasted like it was from a packet that somebody added too much water to. Everthing else was very average but at least it was affordable.

Let me say the food is very very good. I’ll only ever get takeout there in the future though, because service is slow to the point of careless and incompetent.

The restaurant décor is nice and has nice open space while not being too brightly lit. And the few times I’ve been the service is friendly and attentive. However, I’ve noticed that the sushi quality sometimes varies from just ok to good and I attribute it to the fish tasting«fresher» other times and in preparation(sometimes the rice seems prepped better). The habachi is ok. Yamanoya is a solid choice in Westchester particularly if you’re in the area.

Excellent food, friendly staff. I have dined in and ordered out — both are great options.

Lord have mercy!!! Very disgusting place!!! Hands down, the worst sushi I’ve ever had. I am so upset for coming here after reading the four stars review here on Unilocal and I just need to tell you the truth!!! First of all, there were only 4 people in entire restaurant so why did 6 sushi rolls take forever with two chefs in the back? Second, the miso soup had a fly in it and the waitress didn’t care! Three, the spicy salmon roll was so bad I actually didn’t finish eating it… spicy mayo sauce tasted awful. Four, the green tea cup was dirty!!! We wiped the inside of it and our fingers got some brown residue. When we asked the waitress she said its from the tea. NO honey is from you not washing the cups!!! Once again, bad service and disgusting, small sushi!!! You do not deserve the four stars here on Unilocal. Not sure you will be open for a long time. Bottom line, dirty, bad service and nasty sushi!!! Avoid this place.

Awesome. Tried it on a whim. The veggie dumplings are the best I’ve ever had. Big statement. Also had the sweet potato tempura roll and a miso soup. All outstanding. We ordered takeout. It was ready in the given timeframe AND nothing was left out! So rare these days when ordering takeout. My new sushi spot. Well done.

In my opinion, serves the best sushi you can get in the area(including White Plains!). Ambiance doesn’t exactly match with a Haiku or Red Plum … but the quality of the sushi exceeds both! Fish is always very fresh, and love that they serve some of the more traditional Japanese dishes(Hamachi Kama!). Highly recommend for eat-in or takeout if you are a foodie and care about the quality of the food the most. Service is always with a smile.

Delicious meal. We got the hibachi salmon and chicken(special order) and it was enough for 2 people. It came with veggies, rice, soup and salad. So yummy and filling. They also had these amazing ginger candies in the front! The service was good as well.

If I could give 0, I would. I ordered for delivery at 9:15PM. They took my order, address and name. They said it would take 40 minutes. I called at 10:00PM and the restaurant was closed. No food, no call. Glad I was going to pay in cash so I didn’t have to give my cc number. But what kind of service was that?

The sashimi is very fresh. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to eat fresh fish that melts in your mouth. I will definitely come again!

I would definitely recommend getting the assorted sashimi and the lobsters. The assorted sashimi was beautifully decorated and taste just as awesome! All the sushi and sashimi that I had from this place are fresh and delicious. If you’re skeptical about raw fish, I would recommend getting the spicy tempura shrimp mango roll. A combination of fried tempura seafood taste with a sweet flavoring of the mango and finally a spicy kick at the end.

Chicken teriyaki was clearly frozen chicken strips. Sushi rolls were also not what I hoped for. Won’t order from them again.

After a short visit to Cold spring and Westpoint Military Academy, we found a great sushi spot! Very friendly staff with cozy environment and great setting in the restaurant! Food were great and good selection of alcohol beverages! Great for small and large parties! Not so far from queens so definitely go back again!

This place is amazing. Love the lunch specials but also my favorite ones are the Godzilla, Tiger and Sleeping beauty and that’s partly because I haven’t tried all of it yet but I am so sure just by how fresh this sushi is that everything will be of the same high quality. The specialty rolls are nicely large portions and even something like the spider roll just melts in your mouth! The owner is also extremely personable which makes me always want to go/order from there. Their delivery/pickup is just as good as if you were dining in. I have had sushi from a few places in the city where I work and I couldn’t believe that this little gem blew them all away! Love this place!

We went on a Wednesday night around 5:30pm. Happy Hour specials were going till 6pm. Specials were great. Service was great. The Godzilla roll was incredible. The pieces of sushi were large and fresh. Overall great sushi place. Will come back again especially for Happy Hour!

Continuing my quest to explore my parents’ neighborhood, I suggested we walk along Garth Road and try Yamanoya. We had lunch and was pleasantly surprised. They have a lunch menu, so we just ordered 3 different combinations. The sushi was good, the teriyaki was good, bottom line, the food was tasty. Our overall experience definitely makes me want to come back for dinner.

My husband, who lived in Japan for two years, and I took his 80 year young mother to Yamanoya for dinner last night. We live in Boston and frequent sushi restaurants on a regular basis at home and most everywhere we travel. What a pleasant surprise to find such a gem in Westchester. Nevermind the spate of other mediocre options in the burbs and NYC, we will, heretofore, patronize Yamanoya whenever we’re in the area and want sushi for lunch or dinner, to eat in or take out. Beyond the spectacular dinner we had, including delicious seaweed and rock shrimp salads(try finding another restaurant that offers rock shrimp as a regular menu item), and a variety of sublimely unique(some simply so, like the peanut avocado roll, others exotically so, like the Christmas roll — don’t let the name dissuade you from ordering year round — with it’s beautiful mixed toppings of green, red, orange and black tobiko), the décor is terrific, the service a perfect balance of attentive but not cloying, and the proprietor, Yvonne Chen, a gift to the Westchester/NYC sushi loving crowd!

I got sick! :( I normally have a pretty ironclad stomach so I was surprised. Ordered the sashimi lunch special for pick up and I ended up making friends with the toilet at work. The value was good but the food was just OK. I had to knock it down to 2 stars cause for me to get sick from food is very rare.

Just to preface this review, my family and I eat sushi at least once a week locally, so we have sampled a great many sushi places in Westchester. We live in Scarsdale, and although there are a number of sushi restaurants to choose from, we’ve found the local staples good, but somewhat tired(Haiku, Kirari, SEA, etc.)…what a pleasant surprise to have Yamanoya enter the scene! We sampled several rolls from their regular menu(Neptune, Tiger, Mermaid), as well as several pieces of simple nigiri sushi. Our son(not a fish eater) had the chicken teriyaki and the gyoza. The most important part, the fish, was very fresh and buttery, and the rolls were inventive, delicious combinations. My personal favorite was the Neptune, which is crab/spicy tuna/avocado, topped with raw scallop and lime — fantastic! To top off the experience, we were pleased to have met the owner, Yvonne, when we picked up our order — she was very pleasant and genuinely interested in our experience(if you are reading, Yvonne, I suppose the above speaks for itself). In short, I would share the sentiment of the reviews already entered… excellent sushi — easily the best in Scarsdale, and certainly among the best in Westchester.
