Well Dominick’s days seemed to have come to an end. I recently came here during their 50% off closing sale. It looked like a scene out of The Walking Dead. Shelves were empty & the lines were so long. The employees didn’t seem to care any more but why should they. Their store was about to close & they had to deal with so many people buying in bulk. Years ago Dominick’s seemed to have some of the freshest food & the store always seemed busy. I’m not sure what happened but it just lost its spark. The food wasn’t as fresh & the prices seemed higher than other places. I used to like Dominick’s but then began shopping at Jewel. Once Mariano’s opened it seemed to really hurt Dominick’s. Mariano’s had much fresher food, an updated look & better prices. Overall Dominick’s was not a horrible grocery store, it just seemed to have a lot of competition. With other places offering more updated stores, fresher food & better prices it was hard to shop here on a consistent basis.

This location generally sucks. I’m especially ticked off because they closed the Hoffman Estates location on Golf and Barrington that was much better, and there’s another one only about 2 miles from this one. The only reason for the extra star is that they have a lot of items that most Dominick’s locations don’t have. The trade off is that they don’t have a lot of items most other Dominick’s locations have. Other than that, there is no way to get out of here in a timely manner. It is a weird set up and there are only two workers in the entire store that seem to know what they are doing or below retirement age. I’m not against older people working, but the whole store moves like frozen molasses because no one is capable of moving fast except one dude. And then the clientele isn’t much different, so they hold up the line asking questions they don’t even know what they’re asking about. And the rest of the patrons are middle aged and act like they walked out of a frat or sorority. There’s also no self-checkout here to avoid the lines.

My credit card never seems to register at this location and most other Safeway stores. The person at the the register at 10pm this past weekend basically was too lazy to punch in the card numbers or use the plastic bag around the card since it was«against policy». Fortunately, I wasn’t asked if I needed help out with my two items. Oh, she didn’t ask me if I needed help out with my purchase. Isn’t that against corporate policy? Thank goodness there are a lot of choices nearby, and I won’t need to inconvenience Dominicks/Safeway with any future purchases at this location.

Don’t like. Totally overpriced and the checkout lines are always long. I don’t shop here that much to notice things they don’t carry, they always have what I’ve wanted, but I just buy the few things I need that Target doesn’t carry. Yesterday I got a red onion, gorgonzola, and the meat and cheese I forgot to get at the previous store.

Why does this place insist on torturing me by selling things I buy, then refusing to do so for months at a time? Sue me, but I like 8th Continent Soy Milk, Hostess 100 Calorie Packs, Carb Select Protein Powder, and Philly Light Strawberry Cream Cheese. And I don’t like a place that doesn’t sell the stuff I buy. Once in awhile they bring it back as a little tease, but then it goes away again. Uncool. I’ll shop at Jewel now, thanks, or better yet, keep praying for a Super Target.
