It’s just not summer until I get to see a movie here. Larry shows one movie once a day. I asked him about this once. He said, «I tried showing the movie twice a day. Six was too early for people eating dinner and 9 too late for those who wanted to get to bed.» One movie, once a day, changes weekly, will be 3 weeks«old.» Go early and get a seat in the FRONT row, yes, the front row. The theater is not staggered like a stadium seating and it might be hard to see over the heads in front of you. There is popcorn and candy that is fairly priced so you won’t go broke on your night out. I can’t wait to see the new digital movies– they were closed last year during the fundraising and«projector» replacement, and it was a sad thing. There’s more live performance here, which is good, and once I passed by and a wedding was taking place on the stage! How Schroon Lakian can you get? The Real Little town that Time Forgot!

The Strand is such an amazing theater. It is truly one of the older theaters in the area. It was closed for a bit and then in the early 90s(I think!) it was updated with a new sound system and opened for business. You can see the old movie projector in the lobby and popcorn boxes waiting for you at the concession. The owner generally gets one new movie a week and shows it at a set time on the weekends. The seating isn’t the most comfortable bit it does just fine for the duration of a movie. You owe it to yourself to experience The Strand. It’s not just about seeing a film, it’s about taking in the charm of this movie house.
