I hate to write bad reviews with so many 5 star reviews, but it is what it is. It started upon our arrival when we walked up to the door and saw a sign asking to ring and then come in. We rang and tried to come in but we did not push the door hard enough so we thought it was closed. We waited and when the owner came to the door, the first words out of her mouth were not Welcome, Hello how are you, or anything like that but«I guess you missed my sign huh?» Having read the reviews and how sweet these folks are I chalked it off to having a bad day and let it go. Upon stepping into the Inn, however, there was a pungent smell. I have been known to have a very sensitive nose so I did not make an issue out of it yet my wife later confirmed that she smelled it too. As we were looking at the rooms I noticed both of the rooms we saw had spider webs on the exposed rafters and one room had a spider on the door frame. My wife hates spiders so I did not mention it to avoid a scene. I was shocked with the bedrooms however, especially with the one by the entrance as it truly looked like someone put 2 walls in the living room to make this room and put a bed and a tub in it… not even a shower in the room. I did not want to be rude about the state of the Inn(hindsight I should have) but I was not very happy with having to stay there. It is at this point that I found the entire property was smoke free and sadly we had a party member who is a smoker. Again, trying to avoid being rude I focused on the smoking hassle and asked the owner if there was a possibility to come to an agreement as we were not going to stay there. The owner said to wait while she spoke with her daughter downstairs. While I waited upstairs I heard a male voice coming from the kitchen saying very loudly«oh no!» Sadly it was not a «oh no» this is not good lets figure something out, but more of a «oh heck no!» tone of voice. The owner came upstairs and said that we could compromise and they would allow our guest to smoke outside by the gate. I was grateful that they had made an allowance to their policies, especially when it was my fault I did not read it in their website, yet I was hoping that these folks would be reasonable and at least accept to credit half our stay or use some of the money towards a future stay. Their attitude, however, was that of — too bad, we are a small business so it is your problem if you want to lose $ 850. We travel quite a bit and love B&B’s so the overall experience and attitude was so not what we have experienced before in our travels. Rather than sour the rest of our vacation we decided to cut our losses and go to a different place. We were fortunate that The Chester was about the same price and had vacancies so we stayed there. Best decision EVER! If you want to read that review check The Chester. It was fantastic! One last note, the owner told us that the non-smoking information is «plastered all over the website». As I never saw it I went back to check and found it under the Inn Policies which are listed in a sub-menu under the«details» menu and it is the third item from the bottom; not exactly«plastered all over the website». Again, my fault for not reading all the details but hopefully if you read this you know that although a pretty location, to me it is definitely not worth a couple of hundred dollars a night.

I have now stayed at this wonderful B&B twice. Both times were impeccable. When you think of a B&B — this place is everything that you are picturing. It’s located in the wine country of Virginia. A beautiful driveway in the middle of the farmland leads up to a stunning house on a beautiful well-maintained property. I love the décor and the lively colors. Nancy, the matriarch of the household, is always so pleasant and accommodating. You can tell that there is an incredible attention to detail. Delicious home-made breakfast is served every day. Coffee, tea, water, cider — all free at all hours of the day or night. The beds are super comfortable, there are robes in the rooms and anything you may need. The whole place is welcoming without looking outdated. Everything is always impeccably clean. WiFi. I love that there is a peacock, a puppy, and friendly cats you may run into if you’re lucky enough :). With that being said — animals are not allowed anywhere indoors and there is not even a hint of fur anywhere. My fiancé and I are both very allergic to cats and we had absolutely zero problem during either one of our stays. There are over 30 wineries in the 10 mile radius of the B&B that offer tastings of excellent wine. There is hiking near the B&B. A giant antique store 5min away. There is Charlottesville only 30min away with a ton of history and some truly incredible restaurants. Tips: Make sure you order a cheese plate & wine for your room… You won’t be disappointed. If you are looking for more privacy, I would stay in the cottage house. I would also visit when everything is blooming because the area around the B&B and the B&B itself has gorgeous flowers and trees everywhere. We will definitely be back!

This is an utterly charming B&B with lovely accommodations in a quiet setting and delicious food. About a year ago we stayed in the cottage(our favorite) and had our wedding reception here… perfect! Then we returned for our first anniversary and stayed in the main house… again perfect! We appreciate all the details such as making very early morning coffee(regular or almond milk!), available, offering picky guests breakfast choices to fit their dietary preferences, suggesting quality local attractions to first-time visitors, and putting out platters of fabulous chocolate chip cookies in the evenings! Thank you, Nancy and Cynthia, for every single thing!

Wife and I were looking for something to do to take a bit of a mini-vacation. Wife’s been bugging me to try kayaking with her, so I hit up LivingSocial to see if there were any specials near kayakable areas. They just happened to have an offer in the day I looked, so I gave them a call. We booked into the Daffodil Room for a three-night stay. The proprietors are excellent hosts. It started with a phone call at about 18:05 of our arrival-day. While we’d left the house in plenty of time to make the 16:00 — 18:00 check-in window, Route 29 has a lot of antique shops on it — so we’d lost several hours to that. The hostess was calling to ensure we were still on our way and to get an estimate of when we might be arriving. Fortunately, we were 4.3 miles away when she posed the question, so it was literally«about five minutes». Usually, when we stay at B&Bs, the beds are, to be charitable, not especially comfortable. Usually, the«not especially comfortable» simply means that it’s not easy getting/staying asleep, though we’ve encountered some that caused you to wake up in pain after a night or two sleeping on them. Not so the bed here. Only complaint I’d have about the bed is that the mattress surface is about gymnastics balance-beam height. Once the judges score your mount, it’s easy to snuggle in for a good night’s sleep. The only thing keeping me from giving this place five stars were some fairly minor issues: 1) We like to sleep in fairly cold rooms that have a lot of air-flow. The first night, the register into our room left us with a choice of have it shut(rendering the room stupidly-warm), having it full-open and incessantly-clattering, or setting it halfway so it only buzzed sometimes and only sorta cooled the room. We tried to make do by having them bring us a fan, but the fan had about a 24″ range — being a 150+ year old property, the number of retrofitted electrical outlets meant the bed was well outside the fan’s range. 2) As superlative as this place’s beds are, their breakfasts were not really of the«really start your day». While competently made(especially the third morning’s), they were more a whet than sate your appetite kind of breakfasts. They were also favored sweet over protein. For most folks, that’s fine. Unfortunately, in the morning, sweet breakfast equals upset stomach; protein-rich breakfasts do much better for me. At any rate, it’s overall a very good place to stay. It’s located about a mile from where you can put-in to kayak on the James River, within short driving distance of a number of really decent wineries, about 15 minutes from Monticello and about twenty-five minutes from Charlotte. It makes a great«base of operations» for gadding about central VA.

I admit it, I’m addicted to B&B’s and this one didn’t disappoint. Where else can you go when visiting the South and stay Ante-bellum? Everything from being graciously greeted by a proud owner, to the fresh baked chocolate coconut pecan bars, to the antique furnishings was just perfect. We loved having the upstairs dogwood room in the original part of the home — a quaint attic space with 2 rooms, a unique King round bed with the option of a new modern shower or old-fashioned claw foot tub. The breakfasts were plentiful and deliciously gourmet. It was an ideal location for exploring Monticello, close to the Virginia wineries, and even a side trip to Appomattox. Take a walk on the wild side. Break away from chain hotels! Stay in the comforts of a true home away from home. Two wonderful thumbs up for this charming inn!

Stayed here for three nights with my 11 year old daughter. Funny story, I had worked here 13 years ago! It’s completely revamped with pretty colors on the wall, comfy cozy spits to hang out and read, and open and bright breakfast dining area and super friendly owners. It’s family owned and you get that homey feel right away. The cottage room we stayed in was beautifully decorated, the bed was the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. We loved walking the grounds and we even made a few friends of the furry variety. I can’t say enough amazing things about this place… ooh yes one more thing, breakfast is the best I’ve ever had in a hotel or b&b, and I’ve been to many throughout the states and Europe. We will be returning!

We had a great visit at High Meadows Vineyard Inn — the friendly mother/daughter team were warm and welcoming. Just loved how the inn was creatively decorated — the breakfast was fabulous starting with fresh squeezed juices to grapefruit sugared and flash grilled for starters, crepes with seasonal fruit oh so delightful! Be sure to ask about Henry… We will be back again.

We love to visit Virginia wine country, and High Meadows sits within minutes of some of the best wineries in the area. The Inn is beautiful, a little quirky, very honey and just a lovely place to stay. Nancy welcomes you and makes you feel right at home immediately. She was very helpful helping us make the most of our stay. She recommended wineries and routes, dinner options for the night we did not eat at the Inn, and charmed us with her friendliness and warmth. The rooms are gorgeous and really comfortable. The only downside was the iffy wifi, but that is the nature of small towns, so we learned to live without email. There are lots of books to read, a warm fire in the dining room, and a wonderful notebook about the history of the Inn. In warmer weather the yard is lovely. Cookies, candies, hot and cold drinks are always available and the meals are delicious. Just a lovely vacation!

What can I say. Absolutely lovely. Happened to find myself in Scottsville and called up and alas, there was a room. The proprietor, Nancy, was so gracious and the accommodations were lovely. If you need a place to stay, with fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning, a lovely breakfast, beautiful accommodations, this is the place! The Best place to stay also for any winery touring!

We just returned from our trip to the East Coast. One of the highlights of our trip was staying here. We had the Cottage Room, I picked it because it was so bright and colorful. We went to bed and woke up each day feeling pampered and refreshed. The food was fabulous, we enjoyed every bit. Met some great people there and hopefully will make it back there someday. Would highly recommend this to anyone needing a b&b in the area.

My wife and I searched high and low for a bed and breakfast for our first Anniversary that offered easy access to the Monticello wine trail and a relaxed countryside setting. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our three night experience at High Meadows. Nancy provided us with an exceptional level of service and guidance for the surrounding area including restaurants and wineries(complete with tasting coupons). She has a magnetic and trustworthy personality that truly made us feel like we were at home and enabled us to fully relax knowing we were in good hands. The breakfast was wonderful, the bed incredibly comfortable(we stayed in the Cottage Room), and departed trying to figure out how soon we’d be able to return. I couldnt recommend High Meadows more highly based on our experience and we will always look back on our first anniversary fondly thanks in part to Nancy’s hospitality.

We just spent 3 nights here over Memorial Day Weekend, and it was a lot of fun. The hostess, Nancy, owns the place with her daughter(I believe her name is Sharon), who does the cooking. We used High Meadows as a base for exploring Staunton and C-ville, but lots of people just use it for wine tours. Can’t go wrong with either IMHO. Nancy goes out of her way to take care of you, so on the first floor there’s always a fridge with cold bottles of water and a jar on the counter full of cookies. We always came back to the B&B to find a freshly made bed in our room and new towels. Sharon’s food every morning was delicious as well. The very first morning we could have wished for a little more food but the other two days we got hearty meals. The grounds are nice to walk, as they have a garden, gazebo, a pond in the woods and even a vineyard that guests can explore. The house itself is painted in fun bright colors, and each room has a different theme(for example, ours, the Robin’s Nest, was painted a cool light blue). The nearby town of Scottsville is tiny but it has a few things to see as well. One other random note is that Nancy and Sharon try to use natural/organic products whenever possible. We appreciated this because it’s how we live at home too. By this I just mean locally sourced food for their breakfasts, and natural cleaners rather than chemicals for the bathrooms. That gave us some peace of mind and was something my wife especially enjoyed. The only real caveat that I can offer regarding our stay is that the peacock, while beautiful, was really annoying. One morning he was literally perched on the chimney outside our bedroom window, screeching his head off at 6 in the morning. Not cool. If you stay here, take some time to chat with Nancy, as she has lots of fun stories and insight about local attractions. Also look out for that lonely peacock(all his hens died or ran away). It’s quite a sight to have a real live peacock walk past you while you’re sitting on the patio eating breakfast. We’ll definitely go back to High Meadows.

I got a fabulous deal for a night at this b&b along with a 3 course dinner for two, only for $ 150 through Groupon. While the b&b is about 20 minutes from Charlottesville, it is located on a number of acres so you have room to explore. We stayed stayed in the Cottage Suite which is in a separate building. You have your own kitchenette, fireplace and a deck. The room is decorated in robin egg blue and is very calming. The only negative was the floors could use a few more rugs. The bed is soooo comfy and it’s hard to drag yourself out. Now for dinner – my husband had the lamb and I had the chicken kiev. Both were cooked wonderfully. The bread pudding is definitely out of this world. If you are staying in the cottage suite, I recommend a flashlight for the short walk back to the cottage. Breakfast was outstanding-I ate a pink grapefruit for the first time because of her secret recipe – cinnamon and brown sugar and you warm it up in the oven some-yum! The crepes with an apple sauce were also delicious. The owner is very friendly and her son and daughter help run the place. Two musts – check out the scrapbook that shows the renovation of the house by the previous owners – also take pictures of the 2 peacocks on the property! And of course, visit the vineyards in the area. FYI, if you cross a big bridge and the river, you have gone too far.

What a lovely, delightful place! I am by no means one for gushy B&B’s, or at least I wasn’t before this. My wife and I braved heavy storms and once we arrived, we were waited on hand and foot and served the best breakfast with fresh eggs and OJ and other things. Then treated to such a lovely dinner. The livestock on the property roam free and the sights are so great! The surrounding area has loads to offer. Vineyards are everywhere, not to mention Charlottesville and Monticello just down the road. I am sooo happy we went! The room was amazing. The bed was the best and the hot tub was in the bedroom! What a treat! I only wish we had stayed longer!
