Alki Bakery

Great service, and coffee. Not to mention the epic view of Elliott Bay, Magnolia, and Bainbridge. Seattle’s own version of Southern California meets a great neighborhood bakery…

Great place to get a scone and a mocha in the morning on Alki. The desserts are pretty darn good and a good hangout with some friends. You catch allot of runners here in the morning («I run so i can eat good food and not feel guilty»).

Something about the atmosphere really says «do not linger here.» The room echoes, the décor is bland, and nothing about it is inviting. It is not a good place to linger over coffee and enjoy the view. It is a horrible place to read literature. I’ve been to other coffee shops that are busier yet still invite those who want to to linger.
The baked goods themselves are merely passable. The piece of cake I got today was adequate. Nothing about Alki Bakery is particularly bad. It’s just that nothing about it is particularly likable.

I definitely agree with some of the other reviews… this place is not a «bakery» per se, but I liked it nonetheless.
I was too hungry not to eat, but it was too far from dinner time to have a full meal, so I decided on a little snack.
This place is great for that. They had scones, cinnamon rolls, danishes, and then desserts like cakes and tarts. I opted for the cinnamon roll and a cup of white chocolate mocha. The cinnamon roll was delicious! I’m a big fan of the cinnamon rolls from Cinnabon, and this one tasted just like it, minus the sickeningly sweet part (which made it even better, I think). They warmed it up for me, so the icing on the outside got nice and melted and the roll was warm and soft. My mocha was nice and strong and I thoroughly enjoyed it also.
Their soups and sandwiches sounded great too, so I can’t wait to come back for lunch!

Okay, anytime you have chicken mixed with mayonnaise, you gotta eat it on a croissant. That’s just how it is. I don’t make the rules, but I do enforce them.
My boyfriend ordered the chicken cashew salad sandwich (On a croissant! Bonus points!) He is so lucky I didn’t devour it all after offering me a bite. It. Was. Phenomenal.
The seafood chop salad was just perfect — not too much dressing — and seeds on top to round it out nicely.
This place was crackin’ on the sunniest Mother’s Day Seattle has ever seen. Kudos to the staff for cranking out the orders in record speed. The line was to the door when we walked in, and we found ourselves at the counter by the time we had decided what to eat. Oh yes, and bonus points for carrying Boylan’s soda. The grape flavor is bomb!

I live down the road from the Alki Bakery and I live by their fresh squeezed juices, raspberry and white chocolate muffins, views of the ocean, and the year-​round relaxed vibe.
That said, their hot chocolate tastes a bit like their baristas have never tried it. Maybe it’s just me, but I like to taste the chocolate in my «hot chocolate,» or its just warm milk.

I always seem to be in West Seattle after they close. Maybe it’s a good thing because their baked goods are dangerously tasty! I nipped inside once about five minutes before they were closing. I apologised for being one of those people who don’t know what they want but the employee told me to take my time. I chose a pair of chocolate chip macaroons and a chocolate crinkle cookie. The macaroons were moist with crisped edges that tasted like beautifully burnt sugar. The cookie was like a crisp brownie with powdered sugar.
The offerings were slim but like I said, it was at the end of their night so I wasn’t going to complain. I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he told me that it didn’t matter when you went, they would always be out of a few things earlier than one would think. He did say that the sandwiches were good when they were made properly and not rushed.
For my own edification, I’d like to check out some of their other menu items and see whether or not they are out of things earlier in the day.

The one thing that keeps us coming to Alki Bakery is the chocolate chip cookie. Hubby things that it is the best he’s had– the ratio of chocolate to dough is about perfect in his opinion. It is chewy, without being too wimpy. I have to agree. Minus some stars because I think that a bakery should have better staff. Today’s round of staff cancelled each other out. One guy was super helpful and explained to the person ahead of us in line the difference between a cappuccino and a latte. Amazing! He was patient in explaining it. The young guy who waited on us was indifferent. He stared off into space while listening to his co-​worker and finally realized that he had to wait on us. The young blonde seemed like he rather be surfing on this springlike day– anything better than working in super busy Alki Bakery.
Despite the crappy young blonde guy, we’ll be back for more of those amazing chocolate chip cookies. Yep, we are suckers.

Every time my parents visit me here in Seattle, I always bring them at Alki Bakery for brunch. This place is awesome… whining kids… joggers… students…tourists. Movie and theater posters are everywhere. All good.
I can’t stop sipping my hot coffee. Bite here, munch there for my pastry. Chatting with my family while watching the shy waves of Alki Beach. What more I can ask for?

I agree with some of the reviewers that this particular location is not a true «bakery». It’s more of a sandwich shop with a few bakery items. With that said the review is for coffee and bakery items, which there is not a lot choose from.
With that said, if you are looking for baked items… then I would suggest a true bakery store.

This is NOT one of the scrumptious artisan bakeries that one can find all over Seattle. It is instead a cheap sandwich shop with «bakery» in the name. Yes they have some cookies and cakes, but they look a lot like something you would see in the grocery store. I did not want to buy anything after seeing the display (or lack of display) but I felt bad and bought a chocolate crinkle cookie. It tasted exactly like boxed brownie mix. My boyfriend liked it. But hey who doesn’t like boxed brownies, they taste good. But at $ 1.60 you could buy the box and make them at home.

I’ve had really great things from Alki Bakery, I have. But the thing is, when I go there, there just hasn’t been a big selection. For that, they lose a star.
On the plus side, they have free wifi.

Don’t be deceived by the name, Alki Bakery has much more than just pastries. For example, the very yummy grilled veggie sandwich with pesto on foccacia bread was awesome! I could tell that it was hand made and not just sitting in the cooler. And, my friend got the grilled chicken cesar salad, and it too was yummmy (I stole a bite), not to mention it came with a pippin’ hot bread stick.
For the price, you get a good size sandwich or salad, and it’s made FAST and more importantly, fresh. And, I should mention the guy at the counter was very nice and funny. Even with a line of at least 5 customers, him being the only cashier, he took the time to joke with us and was quick.
Nice place for a quick bite if you’re near Alki!

This place breaks my heart.
I feel like there is potential here… and that is why i have gone back over the years even though i have always been unimpressed and disappointed. i really want to support this place. i really want to go here and not the starbucks 2 doors down. i really want to visit the alki bakery, just once, and see a full pastry case.
but no. i will not go here again and this is why:
chocolate chunk cookie: gross. tastes like the tube kind of cookie dough… the just slice and bake variety. the center is not cooked. and the outside is rock hard. i am all for ewey-​gooey cookies… but this just ewey.
i also ordered a short latte. i stand at end of counter and wait. and wait. there is no one else in front of me. counter guy seems to be socializing. i walk over and ask about latte. he seems no at all surprised and goes «oh…yeah…i threw away the ticket. what was the drink again?»
now…i am not one to normally give baristas a hard time… i was one for years. BUT CMON! i was standing right there!!! here is what could have happened:
option one: notice customer standing at counter by espresso machine. think. come up with mental list of last 3 orders. ask customer…“i’m sorry, were you waiting for a drink?“
option two: do your job and don’t throw away a drink ticket until after you make the drink.
option three: when customer approaches you after waiting and not getting latte, quickly apologize, act surprised by your complete drop of the ball, and say «this is on the house, here is your money back»
but no. instead, he reheated old, already over-​steamed milk, thus burning it, and threw it on top of nasty espresso.
thanks. next time i will got to starbucks. and i hate starbucks.
i wish there was an option for less than one star.

i’ve never had their baked goods. but they have so much more on their menu. Café Vita coffee! gotta grab some of that.
they got soups, a special of the day and always alki clam chowder. you can never go wrong with clam chowder.
they also have a selection of sandwiches and pasta. today i got a cashew chicken sandwich in a croissant. nice and tasty and i’m not used to cashews in a chicken sandwich.
there’s a lot of seating in here. but i would recommend to take the food to go and eat by the water.

Location supreme. It’s an alternative to having coffee at Starbucks or Tully’s, there’s plenty of tables and people working on laptops or reading. There’s constant customer traffic so it’s in no way quiet. You can get a cheap breakfast sandwich (till 10) and espresso drink if you don’t want the full fare found across the street at Alki Café. You can also get soups, sandwiches, and some bakery goods but not a ton of bakery goods. The name may deceive (it’s not a typical bakery) but they have the usuals and will heat them up and even put some butter on top. The service is usually pretty friendly and it’s a comfortable place to sit and eat when you’re hanging solo. It’s much slower in the cold months when us well-​mannered and friendly beach people are the usual customers.

Alki Bakery lacks something perhaps the bakery part. This was my first visit here and I was not impressed with the selection of bake goods. but maybe they just specialize in few things. Well that thought went out of my head when I ate their pecan cinnamon danish. Very limited flavor and texture was stiff like cardboard.
Seems like everyone seemed to be enjoying the soups and sandwiches with less people eating the bake goods but I am not wanting to go back to try the soups or sandwiches the staff is nice but it seems not worth it.

Another place I wanted to avoid. but I have little will power when it comes to sweets. So we only got. a choc chip cookie, lemon current scone, and a cinnamon roll, which was the size of a softball.
Did not get anything to drink… cause I basically forgot, due to the sight of the baked goods. Everything was yummy. The location is great of course, right acoss the street from the beach. Nice pit stop when your in the area. or if your lucky enough to live in the area

And on Alki! Who could ask for more. If you’re lookng for a bite and a coffee for the beach, Alki Bakery is the place. Yummy fresh sandys too. The prices are a bit steep, but not outrageous.

Overall: Not overly impressive
We came to Alki bakery as it was part of our «bakery-​crawl». However it was a sad place compared to Bakery Nouveau — the bakery items did not enthuse my appetite.
I stared into the cabinets, but sadly my taste buds were not turned on. The cakes didn’t look great and looked somewhat stale, the other baked goods — muffins and cookies just looked ordinary, the chocolate eclairs looked horrendous, the pastries — pecan and something or other just looked big and not in the slightest appetizing. We eventually settled on a chocolate chip macaroon each, a decaf mocha and a decaf coffee — around $ 7.50 in total.
Because it was such a beautiful autumn day, we decided to sit outside in the beautiful sun. The view and atmosphere is lovely here and I can’t understand why anyone would want to sit indoors in the bakery when it’s so nice out.
Why we ordered two chocolate chip macaroons, I don’t know — they were overly sweet and had no real oomph about them. The decaf coffee was weaker than water and luke warm. The mocha — I’m not sure, I didn’t ask about it.
I’d definitely return to this area to enjoy the views, but sadly I will not be revisiting Alki bakery. I’d rather go to Bakery Nouveau, buy my goods there and bring them all the way to this location to enjoy them.
