Clean and friendly. however, there’s no way you can survive during the cold winter selling only tea and coffee… Also being open for 24 hrs means that you have to turn on the heat. Heat on=increase in utilities. This manager was smart to close it down after 3 months of poor results.

Looks like this business is NOWCLOSED; I went by there today to see how things were going(I think the plan was to remodel and update the café while it was closed for the holidays) and now there’s NO sign indicating when they will be open again — just a sign from the building management, indicating the space is now available for rent. What a shame. A place that had so much potential … *sigh*

I’ve been here once before, nothing strikingly good or bad about it, but I headed here today, and despite all of the signs pointing to the contrary, this place was noticeably closed. The sign in the door definitely said open 24hr/day from Sunday through thursday, and we were there at 2:30 pm on a sunday. A bit on the unreliable side if you ask me.

Went with a friend to chill and study. Friend got a white chocolate mocha and I could SMELL how overly sweet it was. but I guess some people like it that way. The main problem was the flies that were in there. It was super nasty how many were hanging out on the window waiting to fly in your face or eat your food. My friend and I killed at least 10 in the hour that we were there… and there were still a good amount flying around my laptop and landing on my friends mug. I understand that there really isn’t much that can be done and its hard to get rid of bugs but UGH I probably won’t go back if it’s gonna be populated with flies that much

I’ll start by saying it’s definitely worth a visit while in the U District! De L’amour is such an awesome place to meet up with friends and hangout, study, play games(they have a growing selection in the back room) or just chat. It’s clean, has good reliable WiFin and plenty of tables and seating; but I highly recommend the leather sofas! In addition to the laid back atmosphere they have established, De L’amour is run by a very attentive owner(usualy onsite) and sports some excellent customer service!!!

The atmosphere in here is like a cozy cabin in a hotel. You can tell they sober a lot for this place and it definitely stands out on the ave. Super friendly staff and they also have card games

I was walking down The Ave today and came across this place! I went inside to check it out and chatted with Ahmed, who I learned is the owner. I am really impressed with this place, especially with it being 24hrs!!! Attending UW for 2yrs, I’ve been shocked that there is no 24⁄7 place to study or cram for finals. This place is really close to campus, too. Ahmed seems like a genuinely nice person and the interior setup, décor, and furniture are very nice. He told me why he opened the joint: one night he was driving to pickup his wife from work, and was shocked to find no 24⁄7 coffee places in the U-district. This is his first business and has all kinds of cool ideas for making this a great place. Finally, the coffee is really good!

I had a pleasant experience here. I brought a group of people and there was adequate space for them, along with couches and nice chair(so they were comfortable). The coffee wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but tasted decent enough for a non-coffee snop. The place was practical and in a good location. Ahmed, the gentleman, behind the counter was a little flustered, as would any new business owner. He is trying to make a good experience for all. Keep up the good work. I will be going back.

I’ve stopped in here a couple of times in the two weeks since they opened. The coffee is just OK, so there’s no real reason to come in here during daylight hours. But on the plus side, it’s a 24 hour coffee shop. It’s just weird that the U District didn’t already have one of those(unless you count Ly’s Donuts or 7 – 11). On my first visit, I got an espresso. While he made the drink, I asked the young, slightly panicked-looking fellow behind the counter what beans they used. He didn’t know. «Something from Somalia, I think.» I don’t think Somalia exports coffee, so I’m not sure what to make of that. Maybe a Somali roaster. I didn’t see any roaster’s logo on the walls, or bags of roasted coffee for sale. He handed me my espresso in a large paper cup. A bit bitter, not much in way of complexity — but not unpleasant, if you like your espresso roasted on the dark side. I came back a few days later for an iced coffee, which was much like the espresso, but, well, iced.(They probably just made me an Americano.) Not coffee I’d go out of my way for, but I might be back at 3 in the morning some day if I need to stay awake and I’m out of beans at home. I’d call it ‘The Memo’s of Coffee Shops’, but that seems a bit harsh.
