I don’t understand why mediocre food is tolerated. The only reason I can think of is that no one wants to go out in the rain. The prices aren’t that great so I know the price point is not the draw. Bön Appetit has awful food. Their food was no better at one of my previous jobs where they managed to mess up meatballs. It’s beyond me how they can mess up chili. I got chicken chili thinking it’s pretty foolproof. No spiciness, no flavor, just salt. While the chicken chunks were large, I can’t think of what other redeeming quality there were. Cookies: awesome. Pretty much the awesomeness that matched the cookies from Starbucks before they switched bakeries. Service: the ladies are always cheerful and efficient.

Very expensive for what you get. As an example, I paid $ 1.10 for a half-pint of milk today(more than four times the market cost; see WSDA figures). A meal with a drink can easily exceed $ 10; and remember, this is a workplace cafeteria, not a sit-down establishment. And, last I checked, no Michelin stars had been awarded here! As this is a non-profit organization, where salaries tend to be skewed downward out of necessity, dining here is not affordable for most of us in the hoi polloi. Maybe they should rename it the«Faculty Lounge and Café?» However, they know that, with few alternatives nearby, they have a captive clientele, and hence the price-gouging shall go forth! Note: This cafeteria is run by a third party, and therefore this review is not intended to reflect upon FHCRC, but only its tenant food vendor.
