Booked a last minute appointment today for a haircut. I was scheduled with Kyle and he was great! Gave me a fantastic long-layered cut and blow out. He is new to Uvillage but has been with the company for years. Kyle was very personable and listened to what I wanted. –thanks Kyle!

I have been here several times and the service is top notch! I like this location better than the other Gene Juarez locations I’ve visited. From the check-in to check-out, it’s wonderful. At this location, I’ve experienced, facial, massage, hair services, nail services. They were all great! Spa perfection!

I’m a huge fan of the colorists and cut specialists here! My hair has never looked so good! The refer a friend program is new and great, because I’m always sending people. Very professional and high-end!

Tomaz is always pleasant to deal with and excellent knowledge what to do with my hair. I’m taking one star for the front desk. There are few times that I had asked to change my appointment that they had to screwed up. Everything else in the Salon is great. Friendly screw.

By some stroke of luck, GJ at the U Village was able to get me in for a walk in haircut. I was there on a whim and I figured I’d give it a try. I’ll admit, I had a tiny bit of a Pretty Woman moment when I got there. I had a long day of running around and being out in the rain, so when I came in I was maybe looking a bit rough and frizzy. The gal that greeted me sort of implied I might not be able to afford a cut from a senior stylist — the only availability. I won’t hold it against her, though. She wasn’t outwardly rude, so I’m sticking with 5 stars. Anyway — I had a wonderful experience once I got settled with the stylist. She was so sweet, personable, and I felt like she actually got me. She gave recommendations, talked to me about products, and gave me lots of styling tips. It is the best haircut I’ve had in the three years of living in Seattle. I’ve worn my hair differently each day since I’ve gotten it done and every day I get compliments. Will I travel 20 miles to see her every time I need a cut? Heck yeah.

Got an eyebrow waxing at the University Village location, and the aesthetician took so much skin, it’s taken more than 4 days to heal. Emailed customer service and was told I should have taken more precautions to protect my skin, and was only offered a refund and some sunscreen. Thanks for not charging me to get injured. I can’t believe that after dropping almost $ 400 there in one day, that’s all I’m worth as a client. I will never get waxed at GJ again, and after my customer service experience will never give them another dollar. Sad because it was my favorite place to get a mani/pedi.

After having horrible service at another Gene Juarez location, I decided to give this one a try. Right when I walked in, the décor was beautiful! I was greeted right away by someone since the other attendant was on the phone. I had a 45 minute custom massaged with hot stones with Liv. The attendant told me Liv was available to take me in for a full hour vs. 45 min so of course I took it In the spa area, Cleo was so sweet and showed me my locker, robe, the bathroom, etc. She was awesome(: She even switched my robe because she noticed it was big. The lockers are personalized with your name which I thought that was a nice touch vs. locker numbers. Liv came to get me after I filled up some paperwork. My first impression of her was she was so kind, relatable and professional. She’s been with Gene Juarez for 7 years! She explained to me what the Hot Stones are meant to do. My overall service with Liv was AMAZING. I fell asleep only because she made me feel so relaxed and at ease. She relieved pain on my shoulders and back and if I ever want another massage, I will definitely go back to Liv. Thank you so much for relieving me from my back pain and making my birthday massage worth it! :D

For the first time probably ever, I had a really bad experience at Gene Juarez. I have always thought of Gene Juarez as a great go-to place for manicures, pedicures, and blow-outs. Not this time. I went in to have a $ 50 blow-out this past friday since I had several things going on over the weekend and needed my hair to look good. This was very straightforward-I have naturally curly hair and simply wanted it blow-dried and flat-ironed straight. Normally I do it myself, but since it takes a long time and it looks even better when a professional does it, I figured, why not treat myself? There were two things that made this experience particularly bad. The first was the stylist’s attitude. She was not friendly, she looked incredibly bored in general, and she did not look like she had any interest in me or doing a good job on my hair. I was really apalled. She made somewhat of a half-assed attempt at conversation at first, which I tried to get on board with, and tried asking her questions about herself, but I kept getting one-word responses. I eventually just gave up, and hoped that she would just simply do a good job on my hair and then be done. Then there was my hair. The process was unusually slow, and I understand that I have naturally curly hair, but I expected way more from a professional. At the end, the roots of my hair looked smooth, but the ends just looked terrible, and it was so obvious. She concluded with«Well, you said you wanted something more wavy, so there you go.» I asked her to apply more hair balm to see if it would make a difference, but it didn’t, so I just gave up. When I stopped at a friend’s house on the way home and she looked at my hair, she was apalled that anybody at the salon even allowed me walk out of there with my hair looking like it did. I did not give this person, or the salon, direct feedback in the end because I had somewhere to be and didn’t want to ruin my mood or the evening, because I thought I was just going to lose it, so I went home and fixed it myself. However, I will say this: the Gene Juarez in University Village has officially lost my business, permanently.

Amazing spa services. I had a great massage session with Liv. Before it starts they bring you back to the dressing room where you change into a robe. Then you sit in a lounge area and drink water, coffee or tea and read magazines prior to your treatment. The tables are fancy and full powered, heated and cushioned. It was like a pillow top. She really customized the session to my needs and preferences. I didn’t want it to end. Minus one star because the staff didn’t mention to bring cash for a tip when I booked and the price is a bit high. This facility isn’t as nice as downtown with the Vichy shower.

I just got my hair blow dried and my ends trimmed by Mary Linclau. Let me start by saying I have very tightly coiled African American hair. I chopped my relaxed hair a year ago and have been growing my natural hair. I was very nervous how Mary was going to detangle my hair. She was very gentle with my hair and got it nice and straight without yanking on my hair. Mary was very attentive to my needs. I asked for light trim since my goal is to grow my hair out and that’s exactly what I got. I LOVE how my hair feels and looks. If you’re a black girl in need of a stylist who understand black hair look no further. Check out Mary at Gene Juarez University Village. You won’t regret it!

I just finished my first color and cut and Gene Juarez in U Village and I have to say I’m blown away. I feel like I got the star treatment from both Mary Linclau(designer) and Jennifer(colorist) who worked in tandem on determining best color and cut as I prepare for my upcoming wedding in a couple months. I feel like I’m in such good hands knowing that these two work so well together. Both are very approachable and down to earth. I recently broke-up with my hair dresser that I had been using for years and years after she was consistently late, late, late for our appointments! So frustrating when I’m getting my hair done in the middle of my work day. Well, so long old hair dresser and hello Mary and Jennifer!

Had a very disappointing experience here. Won’t bother with details, but after two disappointing trips(the second to fix the first one), I went to Ulta to get my hair done the way I had originally wanted it, and the stylist there did it exactly how I wanted it, professionally, and at a much better rate. GJ is cozy and posh, if you’re into that, but their services and products are overpriced and I felt like I was being ripped off.

I got my Balayage done here two times and I simply loved it both the times. First time was a little more than an year ago with Elle. It was the first time I colored my hair and she did an amazing job. But sadly for me she moved to Tacoma and I tried another salon. That did not workout very well and I came back to Gene Juarez. Last month I got Balayage from Erin. This time I went with a slightly different color and it looks great too! I receive a lot of compliments on my hair when ever I get my Balayage done here. What I love the most is that both Elle and Erin listened to me and gave me exactly what I wanted. They also style my hair very glamorously after coloring it. Will definitely go back to Erin and I hope she will stay at this location.

I have the sneaking suspicion that the lights in the spa area are dimmed for equal parts ambience, equal parts a means to disguise the fact that the walls are in dire need of a few new coats of paint. Compared to other Gene Juarez locations, the amenities leave much to be desired. Their spa in the Bellevue Galleria is exquisite and features steam showers and saunas, as well as a dining area for private parties. The U. Vill. location has one dual-head shower and the list ends there. Conversely, esthetician Angi was amazing. She walked me through each step of my treatment and made sure I was comfortable for the duration of the appointment. It is not difficult to look past the cosmetic deficiencies of the establishment when the services they offer are up to snuff.

I walked out yesterday with a haircut that I didn’t really like. I thought it didn’t look youthful enough but figured that was because Traci spent a really long time blowing it out and maybe it was just over styled for my taste. The more I look at my hair the more I’m seeing that she really didn’t do what she said she was going to do. The layers are way shorter than we discussed and they aren’t blended well. During the consultation she didn’t ask me about my hair type or how I style it, so I told her. I don’t think she really listened or took what I said into account when she cut my hair. Funny story, ONCE I cut my own hair. When my husband saw the haircut I got yesterday, he thought I’d done it again. First thing he said was«we’ll get it fixed.» Lessons learned: 1) If you don’t think someone is paying attention, they probably aren’t. 2) If the stylist takes an eternity to blow out your hair and you don’t like it, it probably won’t look good when you style it at home. I know you’re supposed to give folks a chance to fix something before you post a bad review, but just as sure as you can’t put hair back, I won’t be going back to that salon.

I’m writing a review for Tessa. I went in for a balayage. She didn’t have me waiting. She took me back to her station at the appt time. We went over a few different looks. As I’m trying to get more blonde we are working to achieve it with less damage to my hair possible. Its definitely pricey but for quality it was definitely worth it. She did a great job. I was in and out in 2 hours! There spiced tea is delicious. There’s a parking garage and open parking outside. Lots of restaurant options if you’re hungry. There’s a starbucks right below.

I’m writing this review for Lindsey ONLY. I’m not actually a huge fan of GJ in general, but Lindsey is incredible. She just does color, but she does it oh so well. I go to her monthly for all over color(because I oddly have grey hair at the ripe age of 24…) and about twice yearly for balayage that usually ends up looking fresh for at least 6 months in the way it grows out. Never before seeing Lindsey did I have strangers come up to me and ask me who does my color. Now it happens rather frequently… and although I’m sometimes afraid she’ll get too popular and it’ll be that much harder to get an appointment, she always seems to make time.

I love coming here for the convince of it being in the Uvillage and right next to covered parking! The staff can be hit or miss during busy times unfortunately. I know the Gene Juarez chain highly cites itself on customer service, which is one reason why I go there. Same goes for the hours vs. a private salon where it can be next to impossible to finding a fit to my schedule. Great line of products. Someday I plan to hit the spa which always looks promising!
