I’ve never spent more than a few minutes with a surgeon. Sometimes they only appeared as lofty, masked figures looming over me on the operating table right before losing consciousness. I had a completely different experience with Dr. Hanson. He spent so much time with me explaining everything in detail. I was finally able to take a good, close look at my mammograms, compare them to previous images and have all the significant features pointed out. I was in wide-eyed ‘sponge mode’ the entire time. I learned so much about my situation, the upcoming surgery and breast cancer in general. And I ended up with an extra added bonus! Originally my sad left breast drooped lower than the right, with it’s nipple pointing downwards. I don’t have that much there to begin with on either side, so I had no great expectations for it’s appearance post-op. Having the offending areas removed was the most important thing. Dr. Hanson said he didn’t want me to end up with a dished area, but somehow I didn’t expect such great results. Other than a well-placed scar, the left side looks as good, even better than the right side. I’m still surprised how good it looks. I only wish I had thanked him more for everything.
