They are gone, forever. The«For Rent» sign is up. Can’t stop thinking about them — they were a gem for Greenwood and Broadview. My wife is in a state, and longs for the home-style welcome that we found there. So this review counts as a memorial. We live in the Greenwood/Broadview area, and we miss Ha Roo immensely. The combination of Korean food and sushi was dazzling, the owners were so friendly — not the fake version. We’ve tried Saltoro’s — which is an awful joke. Casa Azul is very good indeed, but Greenwood may have to wait a long time for a quality welcome Korean restaurant.

I think my friends are going to be super sad that HaRoo is going to go out of business. Not that HaRoo is awful, but just because they are in a terrible location that doesn’t get much business. First off, HaRoo, if you’re listening, DESIGN A NEWMENU! Seriously. That was the most confusing effing menu that I’ve ever seen. Ever. I felt like I needed an engineering and accounting degree just to read it! Secondly, please don’t play Foreigner ever again. Ever. Thirdly, I personally didn’t care too much for the sushi, but the two friends that I was with, who eat sushi on quite a regular basis, said that it’s some of the bestest they have ever had. Bravo! Since we were the only ones in the restaurant, I’m not sure what took you so long to get our order to us, but it was very well presented and not too shabby :) The rolls were big and fluffy and the sashimi pieces were bountiful. Hang in there HaRoo! If you make it, they will come. ..

We were not impressed by their customer service when we were there. It felt as if they could care less about getting our business. The quality of their sushi is mediocre at best. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this establishment any time soon.

NIGHTMAREEXPERIENCE The first year I knew about this place, it was always closed when I tried to eat there… that, or they would be out of all the things I was interested in. Then I finally got a good roll and they switched chefs by the next time I came in… bummer. Everything I’ve ever gotten here, including expensive, exotic-sounding stuff, has been bland, boring and flavorless, as well as overpriced. The kicker was that the last time I went there I sat at the bar and someone ordered the live lobster sashimi… AAAAAAAA!!! This was the single most brutal, awful thing I have ever witnessed! They pulled it out of the tank and cut its butt open with a pair of scissors while the thing was SCREAMING and waving it’s bits around frantically… Ruined lobster for me. I killed a lobster before, but this was more about torture than food.

Friends and I tried out this restaurant last week. We had been to quite a lot of different restaurant just for sushi and sashimi, this one disappointed both of us. We didn’t order any Korean food, strictly sushi and sashimi — basic like salmon, tuna, shrimp nigiri sushi and a Chirashi sushi to share. When the food arrived, we were like, what was that? … The cutting, proportion, presentation was a bit lousy. Taste of the fish is not bad(which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1), but the rice is disappointing. Did someone forget to put some vinegar and sugar in it? In our Chirashi sushi, rice is cold and in big chunk !!! For sashmi, there’re only 3 different kinds — 1 piece of salmon, 2 pieces of tuna, 1 piece of shrimp, and 2 pieces of fish which it shouldn’t be in it … Chirashi sushi is highly emphasis on the presentation, it is a work of art … but for what we got, I’m disppointed. Server are very friendly with big smile, love that.

I like the fact that Ha Roo serves Sushi and Korean food but have to say both were below par. We got the Soon Tofu soup. It was burnt and was missing broth somehow. Soon Tofu soup is a basic Korean soup, it wasn’t very promising that they got this wrong. We also ordered some Nigiri and rolls. Fish was very fresh and served in big pieces but the rice was very disappointing. It was dry and somewhat uncooked. I find that for Nigiri, next to the freshness of fish, the rice has to be right, smooth and sticky. It almost tasted stale. The service was alright. Good service if you can get their attention. Two servers were running around service 6 – 8 tables. Both of the ladies were very nice and prompt. I would go back for Sashimis here. They had extremely fresh fish and were served in big pieces. I wouldn’t suggest this place for Korean food but more for Sashimi.

Note that Haroo is really a Sushi place that also serves Korean food and sometimes a mix, as in the Vegetable Tempura dish mentioned below. There didn’t seem to be many cooked Japanese dishes from what I could tell. My friend had the Vegetable Tempura dish which came with various Korean vegetables in addition to the tempura, including kimchee, spinach, and some picked dishes. I had Ebi and a French Kiss Roll(if I recall the name correctly). The food was good. I had the roll(shrimp over crab) without tobiko(can’t eat it); it was still good without and I’m sure it’d be tasty with the fish eggs. My friend has had sushi lunch there and though she remembered a different menu.

Just got back from a terrific dinner here. We over-ordered as usual but happy to have lunch for tomorrow. I had a crab/shrimp tempura roll that was covered in melted cheddar cheese. I don’t know who thought of that, but it was DELICIOUS(my diet starts tomorrow). DH had 3 rolls — shrimp tempura with salmon, a scallop roll and a soft shell crab roll. We brought home a delicious barbequed pork dish that was under appetizers but the dish was HUGE. We also got miso and rice! Great menu and service, not to mention a pretty extensive bar. We’ll definitely be back!

Ha Roo has a nice blend of Japanese and Korean dishes to choose from and the portions are large enough to satisfy hearty appetites. It makes for a difficult time choosing because I like both styles of cooking so that just means I have to return frequently to make sure I try them all.
