Ivar’s Seafood Bar

This location is right smack in the middle of the Northgate Mall food court and is one of the best options available. Ivar’s has always been a favorite of mine and their clam chowder is some of the best around. One thing I really like about this particular location is that it always, always looks very clean and well organized which, for food court restaurants, is a welcome sight to see. The staff is friendly, efficient, and I have never had an issue with my orders coming out correctly. If you know Ivar’s seafood, then you know what to expect. If you have never been here, or any of their other locations, then I highly recommend you check them out as soon as you can.

We just enjoyed the Sunday brunch at Ivar’s. Food, service and cleanliness are all excellent.
There is a large selection of breakfast items and seafood. The kids enjoyed the chocolate fountain with plenty of dipping choices. There is also a made to order omelet and crêpe bar.
I would certainly recommend this if you are looking for a good brunch location.
Ivar’s is also a no tipping establishment. Although, our server certainly deserves a tip. She was very attentive and always checking on the table.

I had a problem with this Ivars causing me to be late. The manager made it right. Everyone is human. I will now go back. I am glad they cared.

I am supremely impressed by the quality of service behind the counter at this ivars. We were greeted politely and the wonderful gentleman took our order with pride. He listened clearly to what we wanted to order. Not only did he give us speedy and efficient service but he also engaged in friendly conversation about my sublime band tshirt, I appreciate his eye for detail and great taste in music. The breaded fish was lightly breaded with succulent tasting fish under its slightly crusted interior. The fries were cut and fried to golden perfection. Also out clans were plump and juicy. The nice gentleman called out our order with a large booming voice clearly heard over the chatter of the food court crowd. 10 out of 10 would eat here again. Thank you

I ordered the fried chicken strips with french fries, which may not be Ivar’s most famous dish, but it’s miles away the best thing fried chicken I’ve ever had in a food court. Every piece was tender and pulled apart beautifully, with none of the gristle or skin-​only pieces you find in other chicken strips. Service was a bit slower than your usual «fast-​food» fare (fresh chicken takes a while to cook!), but given the high quality compared to the restaurants around them, it’s well worth the wait. The employee working at the time even gave me extra sauces after noticing I’d been waiting for a while!

The fare is Ivar’s regular good stuff, cooked well, tasty and a wide selection– but what really makes it is the staff. There are two guys on the weekend (one runs the register and the other cooks) that just makes the line move. They’re organized and work their rears off, I’ve eaten there once, gone through their system and watched them other weekends. Go see them.

Keep it simple: fish ‘n ship

As a kid my parents took us here all the time and I loved their great seafood and I still to. The last time I went here i asked for a simple substitution they could have easily done. Instead the worked refused and I asked to talk to the manager. The manager talked with the worker in Spanish for a while then told me they wouldnt let me do it. What ever happened to the customer is always right?
The one star is for the good food. This place deserves 1 star for their service.

Decent chowder stop when visiting my Aunt in her neighborhood. I like the different kinds of chowder they have. They also have some really good fish n’ chips, and shrimp n’ chips, and calamari n’ chips combination meals that other family members got. I would go again.

I eat there 2 – 3 times and all times i liked their food. Last time I had there a grilled salmon with salad. Salmon was slightly overcooked but not bad at all. Salad was 4 star fresh and croutons were fresh and 2 kinds: white (usual) and some ray type.
The cashier young man was joking and very friendly which was really nice when you eat in fast food place like this. I don’t like fast food places and i’ll avoid them at all cost, unless i am starving to the death. :) But I will be back here to try something new!

Even though I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit Northgate Mall, I just might for Ivar’s Seafood Bar.
The clam chowder is creamy, comforting and full of flavor. Sure, it’s a chain and there’s over 25 locations in Washington, but there’s a reason why it’s so popular. Ivar, if I could, I’d shake your hand. Good job, sir!

Super friendly and super fast. This is the best Ivars I have eaten at. The manager and crew are top notch.

I came here for a seafood lunch on a beautiful afternoon. Surprise, not much to choose from for seafood downtown Seattle.
Anyway, this was a good choice. Although most everything is fried.
I got a cup of clam chowder and a crab cake sandwich.
They did give me a sample of the Salmon Chowder, did not really care for that too much. The clam chowder was so so.
The Crab Cake sandwich was the bomb. It was really good. I recommend this item very much.
Good stuff, very Seattle I think it has been here since the 30’s.
Easy to get to as well.

The food here is pricey for what you get and the service is slow. When I worked in the mall, I had 30 minute lunch breaks, and if I wanted to get Ivar’s, I would usually spend upwards of 20 minutes on waiting in line here and then waiting for my food, which didn’t give me much time to eat. The fish is good, but the fried clams are my favorite. I wouldn’t recommend the salads, they’re nothing special, and are expensive. The chowder is good, but sometimes it’s been kind of grossly thick and goopy — maybe getting towards the bottom of the tureen? I’m not sure, but it wasn’t very appetizing.
There is one guy who usually works here though (the manager?), a middle-​aged guy with white hair, who yells all day long. «THREE PIECE, WALKING!» I love this guy. He came into my store a few times when I worked in the mall, and he’s a really nice guy, and you can tell he works hard. So he gets an Extra Star from me.

I am a bit surprised once again with the low marks. Every Ivars i have ever been to has been really good. Sometimes a little greasy but, it is fried. I had on this occasion the Salmon Chowder. Even though i did not have a lot of Salmon in my soup the flavor was still there and it was great! When it was my turn to get the soup they were reaching the bottom of the pot. So they seemed to be out of fish in the pot. It was delish, and l love their fries though i did not have any because, i was trying to be good. I love the way it smells here as well.

Ok, the girly wants a four and I want a three. I over rule (I can hear the feminist booing). It is a chain but the food is good. The chain overrules the food. Also, it is a bit pricey for a corporate eatery.

OK — YUMMY! FINALLY a place to get a good decent salmon for under $ 20! Ordered the salmon salad and also got a FREE cup of yummy chowder!!! The salmon was cooked to perfection and the greens were crisp and fresh. The normal price for the cup of chowder is almost $ 4.00 – so to get it free was a nice compliment! I am not from Seattle so this is the first time I’ve tried this place but I’ve heard good things about it. I’d have to agree with the good things I’ve heard and wish I could expand to try more but being I am on such a short trip I probably won’t be back any time soon :(. However, if I am ever in the area again I will definitely like to try more of this really great fast and fresh seafood!!! :)

When you eat in Seattle, you gotta eat the SEAFOOD. Because we live close to the ocean, we’re always getting imports of fresh seafood. This place is nicknamed for the best place to get seafood.
I used to come here all the time after SYSO rehearsals for lunch.
I like to order the fried seafood here. To be specific, the combo. It comes with clams, fish, and shrimp, dipped in batter, and fried to a crisp. It served on top of French fries, and with ketchup and tartar sauce. The seafood is fried pretty well, but because it is fried, can be greasy. The fries are kind of soft, but I can’t complain.
Another good thing here is the clam chowder. Think about it this way, I will only eat clam chowder here.
If you’re ever in Seattle, stop by Ivar’s for some seafood!

I am a fan, because I can be… because it allows me to be.
I am going to reveal a secret: Ivar’s is my secret eats. It’s what I eat when I feel bad (emotionally or physically, whatever) or when I want a reward for a tough week or job well done. Or, just because I want some (hmmmm, I kind of want some now, but it’s too flipping hot, ugh). Just knowing that on any given day, I can get off the bus at a different stop in order to walk to the mall and buy my white clam chowder, it just gives me strength.
Located in the Northgate Mall foodcourt, it is naturally very loud and crowded. I prefer to buy my secret food and dash home to enjoy my treat in privacy. A handful of those pepper packets and the 2 cracker packs they give you, and I can make it vanish in less than 10mins.
I’ve tried their fish and chips, either as regular cod or salmon. The salmon was overcooked and the cod was decent. I think I’ll stick to my clam «showdah» though. I have seen the nutritional value (whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaieeee did I do that?) but I love it so, that I will have the occasional indulgence.

I love fish and chips. Add a pint of dark beer and I’m in heaven. I’ve always liked Ivars, especially the one down on the pier where you can feed the sea gulls. That said, this place sucks. Here are the reasons:
1. Its in the mall. That’s all I have to say about that.
2. The price is high for what you get.
3. What you get: very little. Little pieces of fish and a few fries.
Ivar would not be happy with this, and I’m tempted to tell him.(If he wasn’t dead…)
