Definitely one of the better sushi restaurants in the city. I like the atmosphere, it is cozy and the service was friendly. I think the sushi was tasty and came in great portions. There was a wide range of different rolls and sides you could try. I definitely enjoyed it being on a date. Give it a try for yourself!

If you think you’ll be hungry or thirsty in an hour… get here 30 minutes ago! The sushi isn’t even that good if the service was acceptable. Just mediocre Americanized sushi at Ballard prices. During my visit, I saw two other tables(that I could see) leave because the service was so lacking. I personally waited 10 minutes to be seated but a trip to the bathroom while waiting revealed 5 – 6 tables ready, set, and empty — of course we end up at one. Got water after ~5 minutes, we order beers. It took, no joke ~30 minutes plus to get our beer(in a bottle) and put our order in. No apology for the wait, no «we’re busy» — that would have been an insult since they weren’t. We get our sushi after we’re all done with our beers, never having seen our server since. At this point we want to finish and get out ASAP! Service here is an insult if you value your time — the strangest thing? A shorter female Asian employee and another maybe hispanic woman just walks around and does pointless tasks like rearranging the soy sauce dishes at empty tables while tables are all trying to get their attention — they just go to the back and disappear. At one point while waiting for our food the Asian woman came to the front of our table, made eye contact, paused, and left. I thought she may be an owner or manager to apologize — but no, just strange… This place is a waste of space.

Moshi Moshi is a mixed bag. On the one hand the location on Ballard Ave and the beautiful LED Sakura tree are really great, and on the other the sushi is just okay and the service is severely lacking. It took me over 35 minutes to get an iced tea, admittedly the waitress did comp the iced tea but it still took 35 minutes to pour something out of a pitcher. The sushi is good but it isn’t great and after waiting 50 minutes for it I really expected it to be better.

I was very impressed with the service and romantic atmosphere we did the late night happy hour and could not of been a better idea. The food was quality the Wasabi Bloody Mary was delectable one of my favorite date night places since I’ve moved to Seattle

Moshi Moshi was pretty solidly okay. Not the best sushi I’ve ever eaten, but definitely not the worst. I ordered a Red Hot roll and ebi(shrimp) nigiri. The Red Hot roll comes with spicy snow crab, red jalapeño, cilantro, avocado, and tobiko. For $ 9, you get six pieces and I thought it was pretty good. Each piece was relatively large compared to what I’m used to, so that was nice. The nigiri was good and they leave little pieces of the shell on the end, so be sure to pull those off before consuming. My boyfriend ordered the 5 piece escolar sashimi for us to share. Escolar is our absolute favorite, so we order it everywhere we go. Thick slices of escolar were served and it was delicious, as always. I was pretty stuffed after eating my roll, the two pieces of nigiri, and one piece of sashimi. I couldn’t eat another bite, so the price to fullness ratio seemed decent to me. My boyfriend liked all of his selections and shared the same opinion — not the best, but not the worst. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The tree in the middle, with lights posing as cherry blossoms, was gorgeous. Moshi Moshi is a great setting for a romantic date, especially if you go later in the evening as I heard they have a great reverse happy hour. Unlike other reviewers, we had no problems with service. Maybe they sorted out those issues? Our waitress was on top of everything and food was brought to our table within reasonable time frames, so no complaints there. If you want to impress a date, hit up a reverse happy hour, or you just want some solidly okay sushi, I’d say Moshi Moshi would hit the spot if you’re in the neighborhood.

What a lovely find! Had a HH with friends on a rainy Saturday evening and ordered off both the HH and the regular menu: sushi, California roll, specialty rolls, udon, beef skewers, fried calamari, and cocktails. Sushi and sushi rolls were top-notch in terms of the freshness of fish and the just-right texture and flavor of sushi rice. The udon had an excellent umami broth and silky noodles. The cocktails were delicate and thoroughly delicious. The server was sweet and attentive. And when the check arrived we were pleasantly surprised at the very reasonable cost. Will definitely come here again. And again. :-)

Happen to walk by when they opened for HH and low behold they actually had a HH-menu displayed by the door. Good prices and selection for the HH. Ordered the: –Philly Roll — perfectly made — tempura was made with the perfect crunch –Godzilla Roll — good but didn’t realize it was a bit spicy –Sashimi — good selection from the chef and not skimpy at all Overall — good ambiance and great deal.

The youngest and I wanted sushi. Good sushi. What we got was GREAT sushi. Incredible doesn’t begin to describe the negi toro(fatty tuna) hand roll on special. Sitting at the bar, watching the chef compose the roll might make it that much better, but either way, the boy and I both think it’s the best sushi item we’ve ever had. Truly spectacular. And the chef, John, a delightful man from Indonesia, knew what he was doing… a skilled man, and enjoyable educator. And it really only got better. We had the best hamachi I’ve ever eaten, gorgeous sockeye and three outstanding roll: Rainbow, Golden Garden and 5324 salmon. All delicious and beautiful. Really, though, the star of the show was the hand roll, followed by the nigiri and sashimi salmon and hamachi. Not much more to say than we’ll be back. Frequently.

I booked the upstairs area for a surprise party recently and have very mixed feelings. Over the phone they were so sweet and accommodating. Everything was possible. I could bring my own cake and they would be cool with that… On the evening of the event though, everything was different. We were a group of about 11. Once everyone arrived, the waiter took our drink orders. It took about 20 minutes to receive them. About 30 minutes later he took our food orders. Everything. Just. Took. So. Long. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, fortunately. After we were finished eating, it took another 20 minutes before he came by to check and make sure we didn’t need anything else. In a 3 hour dinner, our water was only refilled once. We had to go all the way downstairs to ask for plates, forks and knives for our cake because no one was coming by to check how we were doing. The waiter didn’t bring us enough forks or plates, so we had to ask for more. I don’t think the problem was with the waiter, but rather that although I called 2 weeks in advance to make a reservation, they didn’t plan their staffing correctly so they were severely understaffed. My friend sitting next to me has been working as a waitress for a long time and she was incredibly frustrated and disappointed in the set-up. Saving grace: The food, as always, was very high quality and delicious. Our waiter was friendly, he organized the checks in an above-and beyond way and a few times apologized that things were taking so long. Poor guy shouldn’t have to work like that — management should get it’s stuff together.

When I moved to Ballard, my first fear was of going broke. Broke on drink and broke on food. And when you want to eat really well, that’s a true fear. And when you want to order every single thing on a freaking menu(despite budget and/or allergies) it’s a fear easily realized. And at the heart of that realization is Moshi. Drinks? Yes. Great cocktails and great servers, and a sake list that has inexpensive and luxurious options. Don’t know your sake? ASK!!! They are more than wiling to explain and help you understand the different types and styles. Starters and sides: sunasoon(sp?) salad is fantastic but the beef tataki was the best surprise of the evening. The onion and ponzu sauce(again sp?) on top was flavorful yet subtle. I’ve heard the gyoza is great too but I have yet to try… For rolls — if you can take in shellfish, the golden gate roll looked amazing, but I like to stick with the jack-San roll or the spicy salmon roll. Both were fantastic, filling, and very well made. Not to mention, they had a great kick(flavor and spice, respectively). Moral of the story: don’t be afraid of the cost. Moshi is a place where you will get the best quality food, great experience in drink, and some of the best service in Ballard. This. Is. Your. Place. To. Splurge. Especially if you like sushi…

I can only speak to the to-go experience but based on that I won’t be returning to dine in. I ordered a spider roll to go and somehow it took 30 mins to prepare though the place was half empty. No worries though, the atmosphere is awesome and staff is friendly. I get home, open the bag and am incredibly underwhelmed. There’s a pathetic looking 4 pieces in there… did I accidentally get a half order? No, my friends, they’re really charging $ 9 for 4 piece«roll» of mediocre sushi. Give me a break. Hard pass. Next time I’ll just head to a place in the ID.

Really nice dinner here tonight on a whole lot of levels. First impression: this place is really lovely inside, gorgeous modern interior décor. Also, once the door closed and the nice hostess was greeting us, the din of Ballard Ave during stupid Ballard Seafood Festival was completely silenced. The menu here is quite diverse, a lot more than just sushi, although that’s what we were here for. This would be a fun menu to really explore over the course of many visits and hundreds and hundreds of dollars. We got some Asahi and paired it with a couple glasses of the Onigoroshi«Demon Slayer» sake – super tasty and crisp and heady, and it came in a rather whopping glass which justified its price. Sake selections here are interesting… seemed like most of the bottles were 1.8 liters, which seems like a lot of sake unless you’re there with a group of 4 or more, but the one glass each was great. We split an order of edamame(mmmm) and the mango chili calamari(double mmmm) off the appetizer menu… that calamari was quite remarkable, really flavorful and rich and tender. My girlfriend went with the ginger-san roll(yellowtail, jalapeño, cilantro, avocado and ginger – really nice although the individual pieces were kinda big and hard to eat in one bite). I got albacore sashimi that melted in my mouth. Less impressed with the ika composition – meh – and the surf clam sashimi; normally surf clam is one of my very favorites, but it was bland tonight. Service was friendly and timely, and we left happy and content. A few missteps but still a really nice dinner in a beautiful little spot.

Ahhhhmazing sushi! To kick off our ladies night, we had several different rolls as a «snack», including spicy tuna with avocado, salmon and mango with roe, cucumber rolls for the preggo, and then the Moshi Moshi 2.0, which was phenomenal too. Perfect on a hot June evening!

What a beautiful restaurant! The first thing you notice when you walk into the restaurant is the amazing tree that’s all lit up. At night, it makes for some amazing ambiance for your meal. I was here on a very busy night: valentine’s day. We had reservations, and we were seated right away upstairs. Our waiter was very helpful, and gave us good recommendations for sake(something neither of us know much about). The pacing of the meal was great, the presentation was absolutely beautiful, and even though the restaurant was full, we didn’t get the sense of being rushed out or that they were behind. Perfect pacing. I will admit that the meal seemed a bit on the pricey side, but all of our food was clearly on-point, and it was a special occasion, so I didn’t feel bad about it. I will totally come back again!

One time visit, but it was pretty dang good and worthy of review. Ironically, we were on our way to Shiku, ran into Moshi, thought it looked nice and walked in. It turned out to be a good choice, as we arrived at 9, just in time for the«happy hour» prices to kick in. Great happy hour. Plenty on the cheap menu to get excited about, plus cocktails — most things $ 5 or $ 6. Fish was fresh. Service was great. Loved the giant cherry blossom light tree in the middle of the restaurant. We gorged, drank well and got out of there for under $ 60. I can only speak for the happy hour, but it was worth the stop. Yes, in a town full of sushi options, I’d go back. 4 solid stars.

Wow, happy hour turned into way too happy hour… I hope the table next to us wasn’t really listening in to our conversation. I came in and got a drink and some poke while waiting for a friend to arrive for happy hour. The purple haze, which tastes kind of like cough syrup, started me on a good buzz. The poke was awesome, though it was more seaweed than seafood, I loved that it had tako. Would definitely get it again. After my friend arrived, we both ordered more drinks(I got the Pimm’s cup, which was nice and tart and secretly strong) and Sophie-san rolls. The roll was pretty good. Spicy, but not too. I was stuffed after this and couldn’t have eaten more if I wanted to. Though there was more room for red wine. Happy hour prices are great, service was awesome, very cute décor. Gets a little loud once the restaurant fills up, but it was probably me making all the noise. Great happy hour sushi spot.

The restaurant is in a cool part of Ballard and is gorgeous, clean, and has a beautiful cherry blossom tree behind the sushi bar. The cherry blossoms are made up of light bulbs and gives the restaurant a cool vibe. I went here last night for a birthday dinner and there were 10+ guests. We were seated upstairs and we were the only party up there which was nice. The waiter was attentive for so many guests and waited to bring all of our food at once which was nice. As well the food didn’t take too long for so many people. However I wasn’t too impressed with the food. My boyfriend and I got an order of the shiitake and asparagus tempura, which end up being 2 pieces of asparagus and 2 pieces of mushrooms… Yes it was $ 2 for the asparagus order and $ 2 for the shiitake order so I can kind of understand that, but come on, seemed a little cheap of them. Also there is no option to get an order of a variety of tempura which is just annoying. My boyfriend got a lemonade but it just tasted like sour lemon juice… We also ordered three rolls: crunch roll, Jack-san roll, and eel avocado roll. They were good, but nothing special and the rolls were not that big. $ 8 for a 4 piece roll? Just ugh. The bill before a tip was $ 38 and we were left still hungry… What I really wanted was a bento box but there was nothing even similar to that. The only really appealing thing for me at this place was the décor and their happy hour menu looks pretty good. Happy hour is all night at the bar on Sunday night which is pretty cool. $ 7 for a 5 set sashimi set and $ 7 cocktails, which is still kind of pricey for happy hour but if you’re craving it may be worth the money. Parking is terrible too! One of my friends lives in Ballard and she says to park by the old railroad a couple blocks away because you can just parallel park alongside the old rail. Overall I have no desire to come back. Their menu is overpriced and doesn’t have a wide variety of options. I get that it is a sushi joint but I feel like other sushi joints have a couple noodle options and bento box options… I can definitely get way more sushi for my money and better quality elsewhere.

My beau and I frequent Moshi Moshi’s happy hour for a couple reasons. The drinks are spectacular, the food is delicious and service is stellar. There is very little they can improve upon, as they pretty much excel at the service business. There is a particular bartender that makes amazing drinks, with lots of spices, hand cut ice and top notch ingredients. Eating in the dining room seems a little less fun to me, so we tend to stay bar-side and always have a great time.

I really wanted to love this place because everything in Ballard is awesome. Plus, restaurant is gorgeous! Décor is on point… However, this restaurant is very pricey for what they offer. I understand that they try to do fresh ingredients and quality, but $ 8 for 4 cut rolls?! That is ridiculous. We came too early for happy hour, so we sat down for reservations. Restaurant had a lot of sake drinkers and udon eaters. I ordered the beef yakisoba with a jack-San roll(tempura wild salmon and vegs) Dh ordered the all natural– chicken teriyaki and a spicy tuna roll. Food came out but yakisoba had burnt noodles. Rolls were disappointing. Spicy tuna tasted pretty good, but the entire construction of the roll was mediocre. Presentation was not okay for over $ 8. Not ok. There are only 2 japanese restaurants in Ballard. I hope the other japanese restaurant here makes up for what moshi moshi lacks. I probably will not come back here unless it is for happy hour.
