We ate at Saigon Pearl once when we still lived on the Hill. It came recommended from some fairly foodie friends, but we were not impressed. The food didn’t seem very fresh or authentic and I specifically remember my curry was a frightening color. Above the QFC. There’s a parking lot up there which may be the best part.

phở is the sweet broth style. the broth lacks flavor, the beef and noodles weren’t the best quality.

I am a regular here. I love the people there. Good people and good food. More of a comfortable Vietnamese food spot. It’s definitely not the most exotic Vietnamese you will have but there food is very clean and soothing. A perfect place for a person who has never tried Vietnamese food but wants to try it. The salad bowls are very good. «The Tray» is something everybody should try here. Fresh ingridients and no «mystery» meat.

Well howdy do! I get to be first again, and again I can hardly believe it! Saigon Pearl opened when Harvard Market did — when was that? Like ’96? ’95? Anyhoo — I went right away because my Phở friend and I had recently gotten take-out from Ballet and had a ROACH crawl out of the bag our food came in. BARF. So we were in deep need of a new Phở supplier in walking distance of our abodes. We were still young in the Phở game, and really in the Vietnamese goodies game in general, so we were delighted to find other authentic Vietnamese food like TRAY. Have you had tray? It’s like Vietnamese Fajitas for lack of a better comparison. You get rice paper wrappers, meat of your choosing, shrimp or tofu on a skewer, veggies and tasty sauces. Then you make your own little spring roll. FUN, fun, fun. And of course, fresh and delicious. Since I am normally a huge giver of 5, I want to let you know what lost it for these guys: They don’t really have a ton of adventurous offerings. I don’t get tendon or tripe as an option — not that I will ever take that option when I have it — but still. They do have a ton of rice dishes, vermicelli, and some very tame basic Chinese options as well(just in case you go with a bigger wuss than I.)
