I’m a huge fan of Japanese-style sweets. I love their natural flavors and sweetened azuki paste more than anything in the world! When I had heard there was a Japanese-Western-style baker in town, I knew I had to find goods from Setsuko Pastry! I found slices of her cakes when I stumbled into Modern Japanese Cuisine in Phinney Ridge tonight. Each slice was $ 5 and is well worth it if you love not-too-sweet desserts! I got a slice of the kabocha(Japanese pumpkin) cheesecake and the purple sweet potato cake and they were both great. They also had fresh strawberry mochi, green tea roll cake, and other goodies in the glass case at the front of Modern Japanese Cuisine – all gorgeous looking, of course!

I’ve known the patisserie, Setsuko, since she used to work at Saiko Bakery in the Ave at UW. Since then she opened up her own wholesale pastry business. You get to taste her pastries at selected restaurants listed on her website and buy her delicious pudding at selected retail stores. Setsuko also open her booth at local events to sell few of her pastries items if you want to give it a try. I know she makes delicious authentic Japanese cakes and I encourage you to give her a call for special occasions cake order.
