This place was okay, but it is now closed(and has been closed for about a year).

This place is great. The prices are less than those of surrounding ice cream places plus they have good flavors. The owners are nice and have brought back flavors when I requested. I agree that they all aren’t the traditional consistence but my friends and i still find it delicious. Banana is the best flavor!

I miss me some Mix, even though it’s been gone oh for two years or so now. I loved how a guy or two would come from the back room smelling herbal and then would dish me out some huge portions of yogurt mixed with topping. But, I digress, Mix is no longer with us. On to Starbust Gelato. I hate to say this, but I’d say skip it, if you want gelato. Maybe it’s because I’ve had gelato in Italy and the Bay Area, both homemade, but I’ve definitely had better. The gelato here isn’t homemade, is overly sugary, and tastes kind of stale. I tasted the kiwi and it tasted like a sugary version of kiwi, didn’t taste like the fresh fruit itself. On the plus side, they are reasonably priced and take credit cards. Also, to be fair, I haven’t tried their other food besides gelato but based on my experience, I won’t be coming back to find out.

It’s a cute little unobtrusive frozen yogurt/gelato shop with a surprisingly charming interior(once you get over the lack of windows, that is). The bubbly round chairs in cheerful colors were completely devoid of patrons when I visited, but I’m sure it would be a great place to hang out. I wasn’t expecting a full-on gelato display(y’know, the metal tubs of swirly, almost-too-pretty-to-eat frozen goodness in enough flavors to warrant standing there for five minutes debating silently with yourself) but that’s what they have! What a pleasant surprise! They’ve fun flavors like peach, kiwi, and watermelon, as well as the traditional tiramisu and vanilla and chocolate. If your idea of gelato is the heavenly scoops at Bottega Italiana/Gelatiamo/[insert pretty italian inspired name here], you’re in for a bit of a disappointment. They lack some of the more fancy flavors here(where’s the panna cotta!), and their tiramisu is just so-so in comparison to other shops. I ended up getting the«forest berry» and caramel. The forest berry was an aesthetically pleasing red-bluish with flecks of what I assume are strawberry/blueberry/raspberries. The caramel was the most interesting of the pair– it was super rich and creamy, to the point where it tasted more like butterscotch than caramel at times. The texture was fascinating as well: scooping up some of it resulted in stretchy strands of gelato instead of the usual soft iciness(sounds weird, but don’t worry, it wasn’t bad). I wasn’t expecting such a full caramel flavor, but fans of caramel will love it. One last thing– the portion sizes. Oh, the portion sizes. I would give them a half star for this if I could. The gelato is served with paddles instead of ice cream scoops. Yeah. That should give you an idea of how big the servings are. My $ 5 gelato cup = about 5 – 6 regular scoops of gelato, easily. The strawberry fruit topping I added wasn’t as fresh as I would’ve liked, but it’s a forgivable offense when the service is so nice and patient. I plan on going back and trying out their other flavors and goodies; it looked like they had smoothies as well.

They’ve got frozen yogurt [who doesn’t?] and gelato, as well as fresh waffles. Waffles! Pretty good selection of flavors on the gelato front, however I doubt they will be able to last very long due to the fact the group I’m with seems to always be the only people in the store. It’s a cute little place to sit and chat, but I still miss Mix. Oh well, this is still my favourite place to get frozen yogurt on the Ave! Oh, and they take the Husky Card!
