This is the closest Thai place to my office and I’ve given it a couple of tries but I’ve reached my limit with this place. This is one of those restaurants I’ve dubbed«grocery store ethnic cuisine.» Where the flavors are so generic, I could make it at home myself from a can. For example: I got an order of swimming rama and asked for it spicy(I know it’s not traditionally a terribly spicy dish but I had a scratchy throat and thought it would do me some good). The«spicy» turned out to be about a tablespoon of red pepper flakes unceremoniously dumped on top of pile of dog food quality meat and runny peanut butter. I won’t even get into the phad thai from this place, it’s truly the stuff of nightmares.

Love thai food… but this isn’t the place to go. A friend I both got horribly sick after eating here. The soup alone should have been a warning sign… scary looking.

All week long I have been thinking ‘wouldn’t it be swell to have Thai Food Thursday’ at lunch. And it would have been… if I had eaten elsewhere. To make matters worse a wise coworker warned me. But I thought during the 15 minute wait for takeout, ‘really how bad could chicken green curry be?’. Well it wasn’t awful. I wasn’t ill later. Still somehow choosing to paying around $ 7.50 for lame green curry with too hard carrots and bland sauce… made me wish I had made lunch. Summed up I will not be returning. Sure there was a high point, they had fresh copies of City Arts Magazine(but that is another review). Maybe what you should take away from this is a lesson: when you’re co-workers ask you to go to Thai Star you should attempt to save them from themselves.

This place has gone down precipitously – the sign out front says new owners, maybe that’s why? I used to get the Pad Prik King, thought it was pretty good if a little pricey. Had it recently and ended up leaving it half-eaten – it was obviously made with frozen green beans and the chicken was gross. Too bad.

I LOVE Thai food and I eat it quite often. I was really hoping this would turn out to be a good place to eat since it is only 2 blocks from where I live. Unfortunately I’ve tried it twice and was disappointed both times. The last experience was for lunch. I thought I could not go wrong with one of the lunch specials. The price was on the high side for Thai lunch specials but I figured if the food was really good I would not mind paying the $ 8.95. The lunch special is suppose to come with soup but I was served my entrée and by the time I finished it I still had not received my soup. When I asked, «doesn’t this come with soup?» the waitress frowned and replied, «Oh, you wanted soup?» like I was asking for something special. The soup finally arrived and was barely warm. Overall, I was not impressed.

I met some friends here for lunch and it was exactly what I like in a lunch spot. Quick, efficient and decent food. I wouldn’t say the food is not to be missed but it’s certainly filling. It’s close to my office which is also nice. I’m not sure if it’s me but I found their«4 star» panang curry completely lacking in spice. However, that’s been the case at a few other Thai place I’ve visited in Seattle too so I’m not sure what’s going on. Over all it’s a good place for lunch but I wouldn’t come back for dinner.

Just another Thai place. Fairly large number of tables but was starting to fill up around noon. I was there around 11 and it was pretty empty. Attentive service but I’m not sure everyone who bussed my table spoke English which could have prevented them taking my credit card to the cash register and back numerous times. Green Curry was very green currish, they had brown rice though, which was nice.

Something tells me I shouldn’t write a review for food eaten when you were totally starved. You tend to taste food differently :) But the Chicken Panang Curry did taste like manna from heaven today. Fresh crunchy veggies, chicken and an awesome piping hot gravy. On another note its probably therapeutic for me to have a good Thai eatery near my work place, which I found today! Seating is probably spartan, and its packed at lunch time. Overall, you could easily do worse than to have lunch here.

Like Mitzie, the only reason I ended up here was wandering around during lunch hour of jury duty. I got here around 11:50 and didn’t have to wait, but there were definitely a bunch of people waiting when I left around 12:30. The curry noodle soup with chicken($ 8) was acceptable but a bit bland at 3 stars. It was also expensive for the portion size(and granted I’m not used to doing lunch near Pioneer Square, but I don’t think it can be categorically worse than Bellevue.) For my second day of jury duty, I am planning on actually checking Unilocal _before_I get there(for shame that I didn’t today, I know) so I can find better options, and I’d suggest you do the same.

Day five of Jury Duty, and again we have an hour and a half for lunch. Some of the other jurors wanted to go to lunch, they wanted Thai so I followed. We walked down James to Second where they saw a Thai place the other day. The place is packed to the gills, we decided to stick it out, if it’s this crowded it has to be good right? We wait and wait and wait, good thing we had an hour and a half for lunch! Finally 20 minutes later we are seated at a tiny table for four, thankfully we were smart enough that we placed our orders before being seated. I decided on the Pad See Ew four stars. It arrives and I see the red chili’s, I take a bit and there’s no heat none what so ever. Plus there was, if I was lucky, only four pieces of broccoli but probably a half dozen carrots, never had carrots in my pad see ew before but OK. I was disappointed in the food, for the place being as crowded as it was I expected more and better Thai food. If you’re in the area and want Thai food I say skip the place otherwise you’ll be just as disappointed as I was.

This is my go to place for Thai food in Seattle for lunch while I am at work. I usually call ahead and then walk the 4 blocks from my office to pick up the food and go. If you do want to sit down then get there before noon and it shouldn’t be a big problem. The food is pretty good. I usually have Hawaiian(Curry) Fried Rice with steamed tofu with 3 stars which is pretty good. The phad thai is decent but I’ve had better. Overall though, a solid place to regularly have lunch while working in the financial district.

There’s a reason why this place wasn’t on my radar. Note to self: listen to Tony G! I should have gone to Sound Soups for lunch today. I probably would have paid about the same $ for a better meal. Oh well, I had a crappy day at work and due to a snafu, I missed out on my real lunch plans. So I aimlessly headed out and passed Thai Star. I’ve been by several times but never looked the place up in Unilocal.I took a chance. It’s usually crowded, so I thought it was a go. Note to self #2 — find out what the«secret sauce» is before you order. I got some noodle dish(Thai Star noodle or something) because it seemed to be the most promising. The menu listed several veggies, chicken, shrimp, and the aforementioned sauce which turned out to be a yucky looking/ok tasting peanut sauce. It was barely interesting, even with the chilis or peanut sauce. The chili wasn’t evenly distributed in the dish– there were pockets of chili here and there. Bah. The noodles and veggies were overcooked so the dish ended up being this big, sticky glob of blah. Somebody in the kitchen is not feeling the love for food. Or cooking for that matter.

This is close to me for lunch and have been here a few times. Pros: very cheap for the amount of food, quick service. Cons: crowded, not exceptional food — pretty average.

This is the Thai joint around the corner from my office. We eat there because it is close. I didn’t have high expectations for the green curry but I thought I would give it a shot. To put it blunt, this curry sucked. It was way too thin and looked like a bowl of soup. I think I have to stick to Pad See Iw at this restaurant. If you are working in Pioneer Square and looking for quick, greasy Thai then this is your spot.

I go here for lunch Phad Thai craving. Since I have to catch the bus from Westlake to Pioneer Square, I usually time it so that when I only have about 10mins left on the bus(route 17⁄23 at 3rd and Pine stop), I can call in my order of the Phai Thai Lunch Special — Phad Thai and Steamed Rice — and have it ready by the time I get to my stop right outside their door! At the corner of 2nd and James, it is conviently located right next to or near your bus stop or business if you are near the Pioneer Square area! Beware of the lunch hour rush, they don’t hold tables for you. But if you can grab and go, just give them 10−15mins(20 – 25 mins around 12pm to 1pm). Also, watch out if you don’t like a lot of spice. They sometimes get a little over zealous with the curry platters.

I like this place cuz their Pad Thai is just to my liking. I’m not a big fan of spicey food, so I’ll order it with just one star and it comes with lots of sauce that is really sweet to the taste. Their lunch specials are really cheap, so ordering some spring rolls to accompany lunch doesn’t break the bank :) And their portions are big enough that you will most definitely have leftovers.

Just a block off Pioneer Square, this Thai place seems popular, but there is a little to be desired. With about 15, 2 – 3 person tables, the small corner shop was reminiscent of a cafeteria. Not crowded, but with every seat taken, it was definately familiar to those downtown. The walls, colored yellow, purple or green, were very bare. Two small pieces of asian art were on one wall, while the rest of the walls boasted a «Brown Rice now available» photocopied sign. The small entrance also was packed full with people waiting for their togo orders. Although greeted cheerfully by the host, it was definately hard to hear and order over the quite loud roar coming from the other diners. Once ordered, my Pad Thai was about 15 minutes away. Average price of lunch was about $ 7 per plate. And while the 3-star spice was strong yet pleasant, the chicken was a tad dry along with the rice. Overall, probably not too bad for a phone-ahead order of no-nonsense Thai, but not really a place to sit and enjoy authentic thai atmosphere.
