Croissants are the best! And their soup is always tasty.

My sister was elated to try some gluten/corn free treats and raved about their cupcake. I was actually impressed too — good consistency and flavor with chocolate frosting — at little spendy however. We had chai tea lattes which got pretty strong towards the end as the bag was left in the cup. It looks like they are now open by appointment only.

So very sad. I was excited to treat myself to a cupcake, coffee, possibly a Market Chowder, and sit and read at Wild Prairie this morning with my hubby and their Open/Close sign was updated saying it was«Open by appointment only» and left a phone number. I am so very bummed. A bunch of cookware, coffee pots, display things are strewn about on the tables and chairs. Looks like it’s the end for this store front. I’m crossing my fingers for something that will work for Megan(owner).

This place is closed. We went there for breakfast today and were really bummed. I saw other reviews on here from just a few days ago, so i guess this just happened. There is a sign on the door saying closed, by appointment only. There’s another sign saying everything is for sale, like dishes etc. Hopefully Unilocal will put a notice on this listing.

I’m glad they changed the name, even though I was confused for awhile when they changed the sign and was worried that the vegan bakery was gone! The sugar cookies from here are amazing. I’ve tried some other cookies(choc chip, i think) and brownies, and those were top notch as well. I had a birthday cake from here once the was very good. I’ve tried several flavors of cupcakes and none is really up to my standards… but still good enough to eat, especially if they are half price. I haven’t been crazy about the croissants — the plain ones seem really greasy to me, and the chocolate ones have chocolate that is way too bitter for me – but I think that’s just a matter of preference. I will keep coming back. Mostly for the cookies, but I’ll keep giving the other stuff a shot!

I did not try the cupcakes because the flavors threw me off. Sometimes when you are offering only 3 different flavors of Gluten Free cupcakes, I prefer when one of them is as simple and basic, such as vanilla or chocolate. That way those of us with celiac disease and gluten allergies can gauge how good they are compared to what we ate as kids. The flavors represented were something like peppermint, chai or lemon. I don’t exactly remember but I didn’t feel like trying any of them. GF cupcakes are so expensive. I want to splurge on the one that takes me back to my childhood, not throw me into new territory even farther then GF already does with the altered textures and flavors. Plus I didn’t like the ambiance. Too antiseptic, not cozy enough.

4 stars for a vegan bakery that has both sweet and savory concepts. Tried their brownie, apple sage croissant, mini cupcake, and gluten free chocolate chip cookie. All were pretty tasty. It was lovely to not have to worry about accidentally ingesting animal products. I can see where some non-vegans would have issue with the croissant — it’s not as flaky as the butter ones, but honestly people, it’s pretty darn good.

My husband was on a work trip to Portland and Seattle and usually gets me goodies from Back to Eden in Portland but wasn’t able to stop by there before he left. I did a Unilocal search for vegan bakeries in Seattle and this one came up with pretty good reviews. He decided to give it a try and bought me a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie. I was skeptical because I was so use to Back to Eden and how delicious their vegan baked goods are… but I was not disappointed at all by the chocolate chip cookie and brownie from Wild Prairie Bakery! I will definitely send him back here next time he’s in Seattle!!!

First, what this bakery is great at is cookies and cupcakes. Seriously, I’m blown away with the quality of these baked goods! I’m having to eat dairy-free, and it’s torture being the the neighborhood with Cupcake Royale, and them only having one dairy-free(vegan) option. The cupcakes at Wild Prairie blew me away! Their sugar cookie was wonderful! I’ve liked their savory croissant, but have been rather luke warm on their other croissants, due to memories of real butter croissants in the past. However, they are pretty darn tasty. I’m not a fan of their sandwich bread, as that it’s a bit dry, and the sandwich of the day(hummus and vegetables) was a bit bland. The gazpacho was delicious, however. I hope they improve their lunch options, because having a vegan lunch option would be primo in Ballard. If you’re going to put something on the menu, make sure it’s as great as what you do right otherwise! Regarding good-for-kids, last time I checked, there was not a baby changing station, so keep that in mind.

Had a breakfast croissant(savory and the chocolate one) and they were flaky and nice. Coffee was great too. Did not give it 5 stars as the selection was pretty limited.

vegan baked goods, even a non-vegan would love. How are the croissants so yummy without butter — I have no friggin’ idea. I don’t care how you make the magic as long as you do… Also, picked up a loaf of the sandwich bread — toasted with almond butter and honey was pretty amazing even 2 days later! Megan went out her way to make me special orders that made me really happy.

Saved my(figurative) life when I was doing a gluten-free vegan diet. I can’t deny my sweet tooth!

I absolutely love Wild Prairie Bakery(formerly Bouteloua)!! Living only a few blocks away, it’s hard not to stop in daily. :-) Everything is delicious, but my recent favorites are the tofu scramble brunch plate with crispy kale, and the chocolate cupcakes with maple frosting, which are hands down the BEST cupcakes I have ever eaten. Even my non-vegan wife agrees!

This is the BEST organic, vegan, gluten-free bakeries in Seattle, and I’m thankful I live and work within walking distance of this place! While the name has changed, the owner has remained the same. The fabulous treats they serve has not changed either. Jonesing for a chocolate cupcake? Forget Cupcake Royale, Wild Prairie will hook you up. Feel like having a chocolate chip cookie? Or an almond croissant? Maybe a cinnamon roll? Wild Prairie has it! Need to custom order a cake? Megan(the owner) will work with you. The prices are comparable to other organic, vegan, GF bakeries, but the service and food are second to none. This place gets 5 stars for carrying Daiya cheese!(love it!) Wild Prairie Bakery — thank you for serving the organic, vegan, GF community!

Since my favorite bakery in the PNW has changed their name(formally known as Bouteloua) and created a new Unilocal page, I thought it appropriate to post my review here! Every day I dream of the most delicious pain au chocolat I have ever had, vegan or otherwise. What I would give to have this place across the street from me in LA, instead of down the road from my friend in Ballard. I even picked up a few day-old chocolate chip cookies for my plane ride home, which were equally decadent and to die for, without a hint of day-old to them. This is the good stuff, my friends. Totally affordable, lots of gluten-free options, and best of all, french pastries for those of us who dream of butter croissants, minus the butter.

Now that Bouteloua Bakery has change their name to Wild Prairie Bakery I thought I would give the«new» bakery a proper review. The reasons to visit Wild Prairie are so numerous I will only list a few here. First, the best thing about Wild Prairie are the pastries. I personally love the plain croissants with a little jam on the side and any of the savory croissants(broccoli and Daiya, Field Roast, pesto, etc). The cinnamon and lemon rolls will make your mouth water. The only thing I could add to the cinnamon rolls would be a little cream cheese frosting. The pies are wonderful also. After just finishing a slice for breakfast I wanted to go back for the last slice. Additionally, the cakes and cupcakes are extraordinary. They are always perfectly sweet(fortunately not overly so like so many cupcakes in town), perfectly moist, and extraordinarily delicious. The cakes are also wonderful. Only on the rare occasion will I order a slice, which are always delicious, but for my birthday I was fortunate enough to receive a triple layer chocolate cake with orange buttercream frosting. Fortunately I didn’t have to share it with too many people so I had plenty left over for the next day. Now I’m just waiting for an occasion to order another cake. Second, with the name change came weekend brunch. Now in addition to sandwiches, savory croissants, and soups a brunch of wonderful tofu scramble(absolutely delicious), biscuits and gravy(good), and pancakes(which I have yet to try). Third, the coffee is some of the best in town. I don’t drink coffee much, prefer good tea instead, but when it’s hard find good coffee in a supposed«coffee town» you take every chance to to get the good stuff you can. So what’s better than a cup of coffee and a pastry on a Saturday morning? Lastly, the ambiance and people are the best. The owner, Megan, is always cheerful and friendly, as are her employees. Everyone always greets you with a smile and is willing to chat, if they have the time. Also, the ambiance of the bakery is relaxing and calm. I often come in to have coffee and a pastry and read a book or study. In the end, just go and visit. What ever you get you will not be disappointed.

This review would have been two stars but holy smokes they have the most delicious vegan bread! It’s about $ 5 and absolutely worth it. YUM. I think Seattle’s vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free and organic/local/sustainable cultures need all the options they can get, and I like that Bouteloua/Wild Prairie stands for. However, I was overall a little disappointed in what I ate there. It was very much like the food I cook for myself at home. Good food, tasty, but… not good enough for me to open a profitable restaurant with. I think they’re on the right track, and with perseverance can really make something good happen in Ballard for vegans, but will need more robust flavors, thicker soups, and a little more pizzazz in the all-around presentation. The feel of the place is very… slow, droll, and hum drum. They brew coffee from Vashon Island Coffee Roasters and while roasted too dark for my tastes, very smooth(often difficult to accomplished with such dark roasted coffee). Whoever was working the espresso machine knew how to work with that coffee. I appreciate that they offer Soy, almond, and rice milk at the coffee bar(and agave!). I will likely stop by again to try the savory croissants, but unfortunately don’t see myself going out of my way to come here regularly, even though it’s in the hood. They have a kids play area stocked with toys and books which is thoughtful of them! FREEWIFI
