Yu Shan Chinese Restaurant

I do not write too many reviews, even when the food is bad, but I feel I must warn others from wasting their money on this horrible food. This place has by far the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten, and therefore I have concluded that all the positive reviews for this restaurant were posted by family members or friends of the owner. My almond chicken was so dry that the extra salty sauce they sent with my meal did not moisten the food enough to be edible. We also ordered the chow mien, because some one on Unilocal stated that «it was the best ever.» It was flavorless just like the vegetable chicken that we ordered. I must say though that the Dr. Pepper that I had order to bring my bill up past $ 40, so they would deliver the food to us was delicious! This restaurant must be a front business for drug traffickers or something, because there is no way that this food is bringing them any repeat customers. The food here is terrible!

If you are here for American Chinese food. Steer clear. Don’t even bother come in and save your highly opinioned «Chinese food review» for your next outing at Panda express.
If you want authentic Northern Chinese food, this is the spot. And for a quick refresher on what Northern Chinese food has:
— high fat
— high sodium
— very few veggie selections
— specializes in dough type of dishes
— good selection of Garde Mange dishes
If your plate doesn’t have any of these, then you ordered WRONGLY, period.
Come here if you WANT authentic Chinese food. The chef is the only one Chinese chef in the greater Seattle area that had worked at Fang Shan in Beijing (google it if you don’t know) and has vast knowledge in Northern Chinese dishes.
Fair warning: if you ordered any non-​northern Chinese dishes, you are on your own.

ewww! We ate there three times. The first time was around Christmas and it was good. Second time was in February and was not very good. No taste and bad after taste. We thought we should give it the benefit of the doubt… So I tried it again last night, beginning of May. We ordered chicken fried rice: it was very greasy and the vegetables were soft and tasteless. We ordered General Tso Chicken: the sauce had a good taste but the chicken had the taste of a bad fast food chain: You know, like when it tastes like ammonia???
We also had the beef and brocoli. And THAT is where we all just were disgusted: the beef was terrible, it tasted bad, rancid and old. My husband had nausea all evening long…
We are not giving this place a chance any more.

First the positive… The portion size was good. The spare ribs had a good amount of meat on them. The food was hot when it got to my house. However, I found the food to be very bland and lacking seasoning. I didn’t think it tasted good at all, except for the steamed pork buns which were okay.

So bad, threw it all out and ordered pizza.

I have to say, the building is a little sketchy honestly. However, the food is amazing and the service is really good! My friend and I ordered the pork buns and hunan chicken. They were so delicious, not greasy, fresh and thoroughly cooked and flavorful! Pricing is average. I’ll definitely be back to order more, it was so good!

I have to say that this is the worst Chinese food that I have had. The breading was falling off of the sesame seed chicken, The spring rolls were a greasy mess and the sweet and sour sauce that I got to dip them in tasted strongly of cherries. The BQQ pork was great and cut generously. The delivery guy was really nice. Those were the best things about this. Oh I also didn’t know that the sesame chicken was spicy when I ordered it.

This is the worst Chinese food we’ve had. Greasy and bland. Very surprised at the high praise.

Bad experience. After we ordered, the waitress didn’t notify us that the food amount was too big to my wife and I l. It turned out we spent 60+ dollars for just 2 people in such a restaurant. We ordered Beijing duck which is not tasty, the duck meat is stinking. Won’t come to this place any more.

This is the absolute best Asian food in this area! They made or food to perfection as well as delivered it hella far! Sooooooooo amazing!!!

Some of the better Chinese food I have had outside of the International district. Carryout does not seem as good as in restaurant. A note about the service: it is in true Chinese fashion. If you act condescending or picky they will deliberately misunderstand you and generally be a pain until you leave. I don’t see this as a bad thing, just instant karma. Be polite and prepared to like things as is and you will receive excellent service.

Very good food and a good value. Attentive, friendly service from all staff and manager. Not a fancy place, but we will definitely go back. My Chinese neighbor recommended this restaurant for some place to go close to where we live and there were lots of diners there speaking Chinese– good sign.

I just LOVE this place. I’ve dined in and taken out and the food is always good. The portions for take out are more substantial then dining in.
The food is always hot, fresh and well seasoned. The chicken egg fu yung is my personal favorite. It’s a big hot mess and I love it!
Their soup is pretty awful though (hot & sour and the combo. Gelatinous. Blehhh)
I often get free appetizer coupons from them to use on my next visit. On one visit they forgot to give me my leftover dumplings (by the way, these dumplings are homemade and yummy!!) and when I called after I got home, they were very apologetic and offered a free serving the next time.
5 stars for these folks. The place is clean, if a bit tired and run down in appearance both inside and out. The service has always been good for me. Food always tastes fresh and there is a lot of it! Yay leftovers!

Good Food. I eat here a lot. They always have fresh and delicious food. I would recommend this place. There chicken is really good. My favorite is the sweet and sour chicken. Also honey walnut prawns are a must. I would definitely go and try the chief specials.

VERY RUDE LADY!!! Today I went in with a coupon sent to us in the mail during lunch time. We were greeted by a guy I’d never seen before and he was very nice. Then we got the normal lunch time lady who usually serves me. She gave us the normal menus then walked off. Since I’d been here so many times, I knew I was supposed to get a lunch menu as well, so I kindly asked if we could get them. She said, and I quote «Oh, if you say so» then stomped off to get them. When she saw my coupon by my water. She said I was unable to use it since I wanted the lunch special… even though it CLEARLY said $ 5 off ANY order $ 25 or more. Lunch or dinner.
I’ve always had a tough time with her, seeing as she ALWAYS gives me an attitude, usually I just let it slide because I don’t want her to spit in my food, but one person can only handle so much before they had enough!
The guy who had greeted us noticed that we were ready, so he came and took our order. I asked him if he’d be our server because I’ve had issues with the other lady. He happily said he would, then proceeded to take our order. Please note that I am extremely picky about my food, and I like things done a certain way. To get the $ 5 off. I ordered another lunch special to go and an appetizer. He double checked with us if our order was correct and it was.
So he took our coupon and went to put in our order to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, the other lady has been putting everyone else’s left overs in boxes and keeps glaring at me. Then she goes and argues with him about letting us use the coupon. Since it said «lunch or dinner», of course he won the argument.
She then brings us our soup, all 3, when I had asked for one to go. I inform her of it, and she looks at me like I’m crazy.
She also brought me sweet and sour sauce with hot mustard in it for my soup… She’s done it since the first time I went in! My friend had asked about something spicy, and she never let me live it down! I don’t like hot mustard lady! Stop bringing it to me!!!
So then our food comes after our soup and appetizer, and since she can remember about the mustard incident. You think she’d remember what I order, EVERY TIME! But no, she puts in front of the other person then walks off. Doesn’t ask who’s it was, just slams the plate down and leaves.
Seriously?
So then the rest of the food comes out, and then she walks away again!
I had to hunt down the guy to get some chop sticks and sweet and sour sauce WITHOUT hot mustard!
So we eat our food. And as usual, I have leftovers. The guy is in the kitchen, so the lady brings me a box… She doesn’t put it in a box like everyone else’s food, she doesn’t ask me if I’d like a box, no. She drops a box ON MY FOOD, and walks away.
I’d had enough!!!
I put my food in the box and slammed down my plate. Then she walks over «what’s wrong with you??»
If this is how people are going to treat their customers, they shouldn’t work with customers!
But I give thumbs up to the guy that helped us. Take her job, you deserve it more!
And FYI ppl, a few years back I’d found a roach here. Just thought you all should know!

I don’t know why the review rate is so low. It’s a pretty good Chinese food place. Not spicy Sichuanese food, what you can usually find in ID or Bellevue, but more like a place with mixed Chinese regional food. Anyway, like their 松鼠鱼 (squirrel fish) and 豌豆黄 (yellow split pea cake)。It’s not easy to find these two in other places at Seattle.

AMAZING! This is my go-​to restaurant on a lazy day.
The food is excellent and a relatively cheap price for the large portion. The staff are very friendly and can always suggest menu items that were always impressive.
Great place to go with both a large group of people or just a friend. Spacious seating and no waiting. Food gets to the table fast and over months of eating there, not once had anything tasted awful.
Delivery is fast and food is always toasty. Wonderful place.

The crispy chicken was really good. Honey walnut prawns were ok but not great. They had a lot of creamy sauce on it and not a whole lot flavor. We ordered rice but the rice never came. The potstickers where mooshy inside not sure if they weren’t quite cooked but it was grose. So overall stick to poultry I think. The delivery time was 30 mins and the driver was very nice.

I feel like the quality of the food here has gone down… and it wasn’t that great to begin with. With all the other joints in the area to choose from this one just doesn’t strike me as a ‘go to’ spot.
I’ve had teriyaki and fried rice from here and none of them have been remarkable. The chicken has been chewy and fatty. The same can be said for the pork. I’ll make sure to ask what teriyaki place my coworkers are going to from now on because out of the 5 that are reasonably close to our work this is definitely the worst one.
I’ll pass.
