I have been intending to review Fireside for a few years. I’ve been waiting because I was hoping that their inconsistency problems would resolve themselves. Unfortunately, they haven’t. One time you’ll get a perfectly cooked hamburger and hot fries, and the next time the burger is WAY overcooked and the fries are cold and crystallized. I have a friend that tried their chicken livers and loved them. She couldn’t wait to go back and have them again. She tried them 2 more times after that, and both times they were overcooked. Needless to say, she’s not willing to go back. Don’t even consider returning your improperly cooked food. It makes the owner very angery, and she’s not very good at hiding her feelings. You won’t even get an apology. If the inconsistencies only happened once in a while, I’d totally understand. It happens. But, it’s more than half the time that food is cooked incorrectly or comes out of the kitchen cold. It’s disappointing. I will say that their hamburger meat is fresh, not a frozen patty, their chicken fingers and onion rings are usually good. And the desserts that come from the Sweet Shop(a New Albany bakery) are always yummy! I’d really love to give them a good review, and tell you they are always excellent, but I have to be honest. You never know if you’re going to have a good meal or a good experience are Fireside.

We’ve been to Fireside numerous times over the past several years. Unfortunately each time we have visited recently, the food seems to get worse. This visit my baked potato was still hard inside and barely warm enough to melt butter. My wife’s port tenderloin was served very over done to the point it was not edible. She sent it back and was given another tenderloin that was good. However as my wife said, she wouldn’t have even brought the first one to the table.

I have been to this restaurant many times in the past because its location. I do not like the atmosphere– It is very dark and the lighting, tables, etc. remind me of the 70s. I would prefer a more updated atmosphere. The best thing, in my opinion, is the Fettuccine Alfredo. It is made with mushrooms and you can choose to get it with chicken for an extra charge. Although it is decent, I have had better Fettuccine Alfredo at other places. The worst thing I have had would be the Spinach Salad. The menu reads that it is served with almonds. They have always excluded them whenever I have ordered it or someone I have dined with has ordered it. Also, the spinach itself has enormous stems. I don’t know that much about spinich, just that the kind I buy at the grocery is quite different. Anyway, it is quite unappetizing to me. In the past, I have had servers who have been flat out rude. They like to tend more to the locals who come to be served drinks at the bar alot more than me any time I’ve had a meal there. We are getting better options closer to home so we do not go there quite as much. Thank goodness! However, if you need to stop for a meal and don’t want to wait, its the place to go. The cleanliness is decent, but the carpet, etc is very old giving it a dirty look. Its obviously not my favorite restaurant by a long shot!

Overall feel of restaurant is cozy. Service was great. Food: The fried green tomatoes were overly battered and the remoulade sauce tasted too«mustardy». The special tonight was seared scallops with portobello bacon risotto. The risotto was delicious but the scallops were a little rubbery. Just ok for a local small town restaurant.

My husband and I went here for valentine’s day, because we were staying out of town in scottsburg for the weekend. We decided take the 20 mile drive and come here cause they had nothing good in scottsburg. Was a bad choice on our part maybe we’re spoiled cause we live in Louisville and there’s so many great places to go but I highly doubt it. They tried the staff was nice and they had a special area set up for couples on that night but that’s the only reason I even gave them 2 stars. The food was horrible and the drinks were just as bad. I had Alfredo and you could tell it came from a packet it was gritty and had no flavor whatsoever. My husband had chicken fried steak which is kinda hard to mess up. You can tell that they do everything possible to cut cost which I understand to a certain extent but not when it’s compromising the integrity of our business. I will never return.

This place is a hit or miss. Some time it is ok and some time, not so much. I agree with J H. 3.5 stars. But my reasoning behind is because it is not good all the time. I had black and blue salad one day and I loved it, next time, it was not all that great.

This is a local restaurant that I would consider solidly average. Probably worthy of 3,5 stars. We started with the fried green tomatoes that had a lovely light batter but an overly tangy sauce. I got the lentil patty which is made in house. It was good but a bit mushy and needed a bit more spice. It had a sun-dried tomato«pesto» that was not immediately recognizable but when placed on the patty added more flavor. It came with hummus that needed to be more smooth and pitas, the salad was good. One of my dining companions had a turkey club that was fresh and came with house made chips that were still warm when the plate was placed on the table. My other dining companion ordered a bison burger and onion rings. The rings were good with a light batter that was not overpowering — clearly made in house. The burger was good but could have been larger. Our server was very attentive and helpful, the hostess was quite friendly and constantly cleaning when not greeting. They had a steady stream of customers — mostly families and the over 60 crowd who appeared to be local to the area . Would I eat here again? Sure if I were in the area and hungry.

I’ve tried something different ever time, I’ve eaten my wife’s leftovers. Everything is good. Decent variety craft beers. Neil and Patty ’ s is a gem.

We went for a wedding rehearsal dinner here and it was mediocre. The room they put us in was pretty tight for a party of 18 – 20. We were told there would be dinner rolls by a server and when the food came out another server told us rolls were not included, but they did bring some out. The food was about as average as I can think of, I personally had fried cod, mashed potato’s and green beans. Nothing spectacular, would not go back.

We have been here a few times. Usually is pretty good and they have a good beer selection. The first time I had there bison burger it was delicious, but last night I ordered one and it was smaller than usual and was rather dry. I asked for cheddar cheese and they used a small amount of sprinkle cheese instead of the cheddar cheese slices. We did try their strawberry cheese cake and it was very good. Last time I was there I had the chicken panini which was very tasty. My wife had the meatloaf last night and she said it was OK, not bad but not amazing either. We will probably be back since the food is usually pretty good.

Holy Chicken Fingers Batman! Best chicken fingers in town. The bartender Lauren even brought me a plate of all different dipping sauces to go with them. I was in dippin’ heaven! The horseradish was my favorite– and I wouldn’t have thought to ask for that. This is one of the few places I don’t mind going and sitting at the bar alone in all of my singleness. I never feel uncomfortable or out of place. If I’m not in a chicken fingers mood… I love the healthy options on the menu. They have a small portion of salmon that I like getting with a side of black beans and spinach. Always made perfectly. And be sure to try Patty’s turkey burger. So delicious. And breakfast/brunch? So good. Patty’s blueberry crunch cakes are scrumptious, great eggs benedict… my dad loves that«I want it all» dish. I admit– I have been a regular at Neil’s Place, Neil and Patty’s, and now The Fireside Bar and Grill for what seems like forever, so I will always be a fan. But– anytime I haven’t had the best food they have fixed it. I always get a kind hello or hug from Neil, Patty, or Lauren(Their daughter, who is responsible for transforming the bar menu with her extensive wine and beer knowledge.) This is a feel-good neighborhood place that makes even out of town guests feel right at home.

It seems that sometimes it’s good and other times not so much. My parents go here fairly often and say it’s usually good but you never know. We went together and the appetizer was really bad. Then my fish and chips was alright, just not much flavor and same for the side of sauteed mushrooms. But then my sister loved her burrito and I had a bite of the reuben sandwich that was really good. We also got a cheese torte from the deli here once for a big party and it was excellent.

The Fireside Bar and Grill is a really nice locally owned, family restaurant. We went for breakfast on a Sunday. Everything was fresh, which seems simple but not everyone does it. Try the bison sausage and the«I want it all» casserole. The wait staff was very attentive. I can only guess their enthusiasm is a reflection on the manager/owner. Good job! We’ll be back.

Decent meal at a good price. Place seemed clean. Staff was friendly although sometimes absent. I’m always a sucker for such an extensive craft beer selection.

True, Fireside is not known for it’s furnishings. However it is a great place for good food at a good price. For dinner, some of my favorites are their salmon, chicken fingers, fish sandwich and tomato bisque. Breakfast is our favorite though with great french toast or their blueberry crunch cakes. Or even their granola cereal.

Robert B. is a snob and an alarmist reviewer; this place is full of flavor. Try the lentil patty platter. There’s a lot going on with beans here! Coffee’s great too. Big wine & liquor list and lOCALLY OWNEDANDOPERATED, DUDE.

Good, local place to eat. Serves a very good breakfast. Dinner offers a good selection of items, a few misses but mostly good. Hand-breaded chicken fingers are outstanding.
