Cheddar’s Casual Café

I was visiting San Antonio and my Nephew to my wife and I to lunch at this location. Being from California, I was stunned at the reasonable prices of the meals, especially after observing the beautiful décor of the restaurant. When our meal came it was prepared beautifully and tasted great. Side note; you MUST try the onion rings. Best I have ever had. Our waitress could not have been friendlier or the service been better.
This was a 5 star rating if I have ever (and it’s not too often) seen one. I can hardly wait to go back when I return to San Antonio.

Worst service ever in a Cheddars! After telling manager her reply was, «I wish I knew!» Really, she never made herself available! 25 minutes for appetizers and 3 minutes later our main course… really, no apologies kiss my butt or anything. Good was inconsistent, missing sour cream… I shouldn’t have to tell them what’s missing. No one same to retrieve dishes, and after the check came the waitress was no where to be found. Poor poor service!!!

Went today for lunch. It was a bit crowded, but not overly so. We were seated right away. However, our server didn’t seem the least bit interested in us at all, barely smiled, and was hardly around when we needed something or took forever to bring it when we asked. My dad has the bacon cheese burger, my daughter had the salmon with bourbon glaze, and I had the chicken tenders. My dad’s burger looked good and my daughter liked her salmon, but the rice mixture was horribly sweet and just didn’t fit. The chicken tenders had absolutely no seasoning to them and the ‘batter’ was horrible and had no taste to it either. The cole slaw was too sweet and soupy. The fries were over cooked and there was maybe about ten of them on the plate. It was not worth the $ 40 I paid for lunch, plus tip. I will not be returning.

This is my second visit but love the place. Very friendly service and the food is great.
A must try if you are in the area.

I’m not sure while there are so many negative reviews. If you go on the weekend it’s kind of noisy. During the week or during lunch I’m rarely disappointed. I typically order the chicken tenders and ribs — they are very good.

I’ve avoided cheddars because of long waits but decided it had been too long without those yummy crescents. To my surprise, not much of a wait and the food was very good. Wait staff helped each other which always makes for a nice experience. Yum!

My wife and I visited Cheddar’s for our first time and all we can say is WOW ! The food is exceptional, our waitress (Forrest) was awesome and the ambiance was really nice. Their chicken pot pie was delicious as well as their onion rings. We’ll definitely be visiting this place again.

This was our First time here. We will definitely be back! The customer service is amazing! The menu has a wide variety for everyone. Kids menu also. The drinks that we saw other people order looked amazing too! The table next to ours ordered a «pain killer» that looked like it would definitely relieve any pain you had. :-) I told our server this was our first visit, so she brought me and my hubby complimentary croissants, that were to die for! She said they normally run out in 5 minutes after coming out of the oven. The manager also came by to drop off complimentary warm cookies while we were eating our meal with a «free appetizer» card for our next visit to thank us for coming in. Now that’s customer service!
Best part is… we live 10 minutes away.

Everything was ok. But the host Michelle was so rude why do yall have a host that rolls her eyes at us just because we had one extra unexpected person show up as we were being seated. Sorry we thru you out of routine little girl. But do you job or go hide in a hole get a new job.

This location isnt as good as others. To begin, several parking lot lights were burned out making it a very dark – and dangerous – walk into the restaurant. Our waitress was overwhelmed with her tables so that we had to flag her down for our croissant and drink refills. The broccoli casserole was barely warm. The green beans were sweet. The hot tea was a regular Lipton bag. That said, a less than stellar meal at Cheddars is still better than most other restaurants costing double. The salmon is tremendous, the rice is the only rice I will eat, and the croissants are light, fluffy and buttery. The prices are fair and the food is great. The last is a suggestion for servers – please do not bus my table while Im still there. I dont appreciate having to gather up my plates in order to hand them to you. If Im still at the table, I havent completed my meal and I am still enjoying the company of those Im with. Bussing the table interrupts my conversations and is upsetting. Me no likey dat.

Great dinner and great service. Deshawn was the best part of the dining experience. He was very attentive and a top class waiter. Will be back just because of his service and attitude. The steak was cooked perfectly and the salmon was delicious and falling apart. 5 stars.

First of all, I like the ambience, like a combination of a sexy night club and diner. Prices are downright cheap. Lots of parking. Great bar and reasonably priced drinks. Menu choices look great, lots of comfort food.
I ordered one of myfavorite comfort foods… Chicken Pot Pie. Great crust and creamy filling suace. One big complaint, WHERE’S THE CHICKEN? Way too many peas and small bits of carrots, and maybe an occassional chicken piece here and there. Sad disappointment. Sad to say, but the KFC Chicken Pot Pie is still the best around. Why can’t Chedders do this?
Service is generally very good. Our waitress was not well trained, looked like a college student working weekends. Squeeky voice, affected, came back to check on us way too many times, and my biggest pet peeve, «Do we want desert today?» I promptly answered, we don’t, do you? It didn’t seem to sink in.
Would we go back again? Yes, of course. Overall, this is a great eating place.

We showed up for a late lunch, 1:00pm on a Saturday. The lunch rush was over and they seated us immediately. The waiter comes by after about 5 minutes only to tell us that he will be right back to get our drink order.
15 additional minutes and he comes back. We give him our drink orders and both order the soup and sandwich lunch combo.
Unsweetened tea is not a complicated drink to make so we didn’t expect a 10 wait for them show up at the table.
My wife and I both ordered a club sandwich but we had different soup selections. (tortilla /​potato)
It took forever for the plates to come out and we noticed that others seated in different sections didn’t have the same issue. People seated after us were already being served their food and they were more complex orders than ours.
The food finally showed up and the sandwich was a little small, but tasted good. The potato soup was better than the tortilla, but both were good.
Terrance, our waiter, said he would bring us more tea. He ran by and slammed our cups down and forgot the lemon. He ignored us as we called after him asked for some.
It took him so long to bring things out that we were afraid to give him our card so we just left him cash and got the hell outta there!
A quick lunch took over an hour and should have been 20 min tops!
Had we been able to find exact change we may not have left a tip at all. We were tempted to warn others to ask to move to another section as we saw them seated around me.
The only saving grace is that the food was really good, not good enough to offset the terrible service, but good.

First, my chicken fried steak tasted like fish. If I’d wanted fish, I would have ordered it. And the place was incredibly loud. Price was ok, and I liked the small dessert options. Still, you NEVER fry anything else in fish grease. I will never go back.

We’ve been 3 times to this location and each time the service has been horrible. The food is good and fresh, but it takes so long to get it it’s not worth it any more!
Here’s a quick review of our 3 visits:
1) During winter, we went and the place was freezing! We sat in the bar and had cold air blowing right down on us! Since the restaurant was full couldn’t be moves so we ate freezing and our food turned cold once it finally arrived. The manager said there was nothing he could do.
2) We went with our sons and waited longer than quoted. Once seated it took forever to be greeted, and to get our food. The server was friendly (actually he was too chatty) but forgot small requests several times. We ended up boxing our food up to take home to finish.
3) We went in at 5:15 on a Friday night, with a party of 4. We were quoted 20 minutes, which isn’t normally too long, except the restaurant wasn’t even half full! There was staff standing and even sitting around. We left. We weren’t going to risk another long and poor service experience.
The food is great, so will probably only ever do to go at this location. Perpetual bad service is a reflection of management.

I just ate at Cheddars for the 1^st time and won’t be back. The food and service was awful. I had the Vegetable Plate. The baked potato was ice cold and the sour cream was bad. No spoon to eat my corn or apples with. My son had the Chicken Fried Steak and he couldn’t eat it. He ordered mashed potatoes to go with his dinner and just before they brought out the plates the server came and said they were out of mashed potatoes. Really? How do you run out of potatoes? At dinner time? Total waste of money.

There are 3 things that bring me back to this place
1– the honey crossant. I can eat them for a meal and leave a happy man.
2 — Happy hour drinks. They are cheap and pack a punch. Don’t get fooled by the pain killer. It is not very tasty and not as strong as advertised. But their long islands are pretty good and pack a punch.
3 — You can’t beat the combo prices. It’s southern comfort food but in a chain restaurant style. I’ve tried the steak that was juicy but pretty small. The chicken and waffles were good one time and sucked the next. The sides are usually pretty bland so stick with basics there.
The service is pretty much always sketchy. We usually opt to sit by the bar and hope to get decent service.
Don’t bother on the weekends as the lines go out the door and food takes forever to get to your table.

3.5 STARS! Food 3 Stars, 4 Stars on value, Margaritas 6 Stars!!! Those Texas margaritas were no joke! Huge, pack a punch, nice smooth flavor and not tart. Best part $ 3.75 each… Damn.
I’ve never been here before but always pass by it. I’m not a chain restaurant kind of fan but the ambiance is better than Chilis and the food is way better than an Applebees and it’s a Texas based chain so… good to support! The price for food here is jaw droppingly cheap. Every entrée is ridiculously low in price. Where the hell have I been when looking for a cheap place for me and all these damn kids?!
The service was great. From the hostesses to the servers and waiters they were young but all smiles and great all around.
The food came out quick. The queso sucks as it is basic canned cheese. The chips are good though. Salsa is lame. They actually take canned salsa and chop tomatoes in to make it seem fresh LOL. I ordered a ceasar salad to start and it was fresh. The lettuce was crisp and cold. The dressing was spot on. For the entrée I pigged out because first off, I’ve never seen a sirlion steak paired with chicken tenders. Second, it came with two sides and third, it was all for only $ 12.95. FML. The steak wasnt fatty but is wasnt tender either. It was over salted but well over 6oz in size. The tenders were limp, not crisp and somewhat mushy so dont get your hopes up. They cant compare to a Chilis chicken crispers. The broccli was bright green and flavorful but still frozen as were the green beans. 3 STARS on food.
Enjoy, especially if you have lots of kids.

I only came back to visit because cheddars manager personally invited me back to lunch and cheddars sent me a gift certificate because of the horrid first visit.
It’s a busy Sunday afternoon. Hostess Sat us at a booth. We began to look at the menu. Cody B. (waiter) came by and politely ask us for our drink orders. He was extremely wonderful! He came back our drinks and we ordered a triple treat. Nachos, potato skins and mot sticks. It was delish. It was enough for a family of 4 to share.
I ordered a tilapia with mango salsa with edamame,& bake potato. Yum! My children shared the grilled chicken Alfredo. They loved it. My daughter ordered the Caesar salad and it had a little too much dressing. The honey butter croissant was mouth heaven. My husband ordered a steak and tenders. He said the steak was ok. The tenders were pretty good. Overall it was not a bad place when you get better service. The food is actually good. Not a place to have a steak though.
The bathrooms were clean.
