Seneca Shadows campground is hands down one of the best«glamp» sites for large group camping. I’ve been going to this campground since 2012, and it has become a tradition for my friends and I. It is centrally located in Seneca Rocks, WV accross from the visitor informaiton center… the view of Seneca Rocks is incredible and campsites are pristine. Firewood isn’t allowed to be brought in or harvested from the area, but it is for sale and not unreasonable…$ 10 a bundle or $ 20 gets you 3 bundles of wood. Each group site is equipped with tent areas, fire circle, benches and grills. There are showers/full bathrooms if you need the«glamp» sundries… but it’s also packed with natural paths and creeks all tucked away by acres of foliage. I highly recommend researching all your activities prior to arrival in WV as the locals don’t really«do» city style directions and hunting and fishing laws are a little ambiguous. There is so much in the immediate area to include: hiking, caving, fishing, the highest point in WV, nature tours etc all within 1 hr of the campsite. If you’re truly unprepared for the outdoors there are 2 country stores and 2 gas stations located within a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk from the campground.

We stayed at the wooded area in loop A. So this is a review for the wooded area, but not the open area where the view is open and amazing. We LOVE the experience — for its cleanness, its quietness, and the privacy you get. We did hear that the open area can be quite«eventful» at night, but our choice of staying at the wooded area suits us well. We enjoyed the elevated tent area, the elevated fire ring, and the paved drive way. The camping weekend is very pleasant because of this campground. Choose the wooded area if you want privacy and peaceful nights.

We stayed two nights over memorial day weekend and we did our best to have an enjoyable time. Most of the reviews about this place are pretty spot on, but our experience wasn’t so good this weekend. Several factors kept us from giving it 5 stars: 1. Site 7 in loop A is right next to the bathrooms, and if the wind blew a certain way we’d catch an overwhelming stench of the septic system. Imagine camping or sleeping next to an outhouse. 2. There’s a utility fixture in the middle of the woods between loop A and B, and both nights around midnight it’s «alarm» went off with a high pitched, extremely loud wailing noise along with a bright red light. I think it was telling us the septic system was about to explode. 3. Quiet time is 10pm, but there was a group in loop B that thought it didn’t apply to them. As far as we could tell, the camp hosts did not enforce it either because they were loud and obnoxious well past 10pm each night. Overall, we’d come back on a non-holiday weekend and pick a campsite far enough away from their bathrooms. The hike to and view from the top of Seneca Rocks is awesome and would be the only reason for us to return to this campground.
