I stayed here a night while visiting the battlefield. The location is perfect, only 5 min drive to Antietam visitor’s center. Also its only a 5m walk to downtown sharpsburg. Bob and Charles were wonderful hosts and breakfast was delicious. This is a great place to stay if your in town, I highly recommend it!

A beautiful bed and breakfast very close to the Antietam battlefield. We stayed in the Penthouse which was spacious and very nicely lit by many skylights. If we get back here again I would choose the Smokehouse Room which has a very primitive look and feel. The owners gave us a tour of all of the room, and they are all large and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was great.

**This is stop 1 on my list«Road Trips Around DC: Canoeing and Civil War History in MD» Love, love everything about this place: the owners, the house, the price, the breakfast, the rooms, and the old Civil War era barely-60-miles-out-of-DC location. We drove straight to this Bed and Breakfast from DC and the owners greeted us like we were old friends staying at their house. They showed us upstairs, shared local menus with us, and said our bed would be turned down while we were out. The house was built in 1909 and has five rooms available to stay in. We stayed in the Garden Room which is beautiful with a floral theme and very large– it has a sitting room and large bathroom. There are no TVs except for one in the library which is chock full of old celebrity auto/biographies, history books, and old records which are all perfect for dipping into with a cup of tea on a rainy day(though we never wish for rain on our vacays). The place is spotless and impeccably decorated with art and furniture from the Civil War era. There are a few things hanging and lingering about that the owners obviously just love– such as theatre posters– but which add a nice personal touch and the house is so warm and beautiful. This place is literally on the edge of Antietam Battlefield so it was a perfect location for us, although you still have to drive to the visitors center and possibly drive the battlefield because it’s obviously hundreds of acres. Breakfast was wonderful– coffee, tea, juice, water, fresh fruit salad, blue berry pancakes and sausage. They probably change the menu once in a while but it’s all probably just as fresh and amazing. And the set of plates they serve on is beautifully patterned China. We were the only people staying here(it was a weeknight after all) and so the owners actually lingered with us a bit while we ate and taught us a bit about the house. For example, we noticed a photo(lithograph maybe??) or Abraham Lincoln hanging on the wall in the dining room. They told us that it came with the house and then proceeded to explain a very interesting history behind it which I will abstain from divulging for those of you who visit the Inn… Sometimes B&B owners can be in your face, trying to get you to go certain places or eat at certain places because there are local relationships and they’re all trying to profit. They mentioned once that they had local menus for us to see, warned us that there are no restaurants actually in the town in which the Inn was located, and asked us if we would need directions getting anywhere(because they do live there so they are local after all). After this, they left us alone. Don’t be concerned when I say, «there’s nowhere to eat.» What I mean is that the towns are so tiny. so you need only to drive a few minutes this way or that to eat. In fact, on the way into the Inn at least from DC, you’ll see what I mean and pass many places to remember for later. I’ve included one as a stop on my list«Road Trips Around DC». They have an adorable little dog named Amy who is friendly and well-behaved but barks a bit when people enter as any dog would. The grounds are beautiful with a nice outdoor space and an incredibly old and beautiful tree. Loved it, will recommend it to all I know, and will definitely be back here. Thanks for a great stay!
