I had a great experience with Dr. Murrell — which how often can you say that about a dentist? His staff was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and forthcoming. I also found his prices very reasonable. Some background: I live in DC, but grew up in this area and am home visiting my family for the week. Frustrated by the ridiculously long wait times in DC, I called to see if I could get in to see Dr. Murrell(whose office is right around the corner from my parent’s house) about a problem tooth. When I arrived, I waited not five minutes before being taken back to meet with Dr. Murrell. I was immediately impressed by the fact that Dr. Murrell did not try and up-sell me on anything. He recommended I replace an old filling that was most likely responsible for the pain I was feeling. At this point, one of his assistants stepped in to talk to me about how much it would cost, etc. to avoid any sticker shock after the procedure was over. To me this was much appreciated. There’s nothing worse than having work done and then getting some crazy bill afterward that you weren’t expecting. Anyway, the procedure was quick, painless, and easy. I only wish I had Dr. Murrell in DC! Go see him — can’t beat his work or his staff.

I switched to Dr. Murrell from Dr. Fedon after he missing me having a cracked tooth and his assistants would make my gums bleed every 6 months when I’d get my teeth cleaned. Dr. Murrell is a U of M dental school graduate. Normally, with me bleeding green and white and him maize and blue I’d steer clear for that reason alone. ;-) jk ;-) I’m VERY glad we found this guy. Dr. Murrell is an AMAZINGDENTIST!!! In fact, if you decide to see him feel free to tell him I said so and that I would recommend him to anybody who asked. Here are my reasons on why he’s AMAZING! 1) I’ve had a cracked tooth and two cavities filled by him. The thing I HATE the most is the shots in your cheeks or gums they have to give you. They are the only location on the body I will get a shot and cry like someone cut off an appendage with a dull hacksaw. What Dr. Murrell does is put this topical numbing ointment on it for a minute or so on the location he’s going to inject so the injection doesn’t hurt nearly as bad, or at all. I wish more dentists would do this!!! It makes the visit so much less stressful. 2) His dental assistants are amazing. There’s one girl, Sarah, who hails from Romeo who is just a hoot. I love it when I get her the days I go. 3) He genuinely cares about you as a patient and doesn’t blow you off. If you are having pain he doesn’t do what other dentists would do to me and throw a sensitive-teeth toothpaste at me and say it’s all in my head. It’s NOT normal to just have pain randomly in your teeth or mouth for no reason and he CARES about fixing the issue. I’ve never walked out of his office still in pain. 4) His office is very comfortable and puts you at ease. Since it’s recently built everything is brand new. In the patient areas it’s also very clean and you feel much better about these people putting their hands in your mouth to work. 5) He’s also pretty good at getting you in last minute and if I remember correctly works two Saturdays of every month for people like myself that were away at school Mon-Fri. Overnight one day my tooth was just throbbing and had lightening sharp pain going through it. I called and was able to be fit in for a same day appointment to get it taken care of. I’ve never dealt with a staff that was that accommodating and willing to help you out. I was so grateful that I only had to deal with the pain for a few hours before getting it fixed. 6) Dr. Murrell in general is a hoot. He’s got a great sense of humor. Normally, I would not joke around with a dentist because it’s the last place on earth I want to be. It’s different here. He will chit chat with you and cares. I also like to rag on him for going to U of M. I’ve decided if I EVER move away from Michigan(which I’d like to) I still think when I’m in town for holidays I want to make sure and still go to him for routine cleanings and maintenance when I can. The ONLY downside is he is a little more expensive(I’ve noticed when comparing dentists) then a lot of other dentists. I don’t know if it’s because he IS in a brand spankin’ new building and they are paying on a mortgage for it, or if he just normally charges higher prices, but if you do NOT have insurance you are going be paying a lot. Sadly, I’m a year overdue for a teeth cleaning because I’ve been without insurance for awhile and can’t afford the over $ 200 cleaning, x-ray, dentist inspection, and general maintenance appointment. I will say this though that he is DEFINITELY and WITHOUT A DOUBT worth the price. Especially if you haven’t seen a dentist in years because they give you the heebie-jeebies. I guess the more I think about it he could always be charging me more because I’m a spartan and not a wolverine. I think I might have to have a sit down with him the next time I see him … ;-) ;-) Go to this dentist!!! AMAZING is the only word I can use to describe him, his staff, and his work. You really will NOT regret the decision to go to him.
