Taco Tuesday we got there around 8:00pm after a good workout and they were busy as expected I’ve never been there before but I guess I was expecting the bar to be a little bigger and be more of a place where u can socialize and mingle DEFINTELYNOTTHAT !!! Bar seated 10 people and the restaurant was a little dark with no place for a newly single person like myself to mingle lol. I got a little irritated with the seating 3 groups of people who showed up 15 – 20 minutes after us got seated before we did and we were a group of two. Finally got seated double whiskey on the rocks chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. Food was amazing lobster enchiladas was AMAZING defintely worth the $ 25 bucks with ricr and beans. Good place to go but wish the customer service was better. Maybe I should give another star maybe I’m a little jaded because my expectations were so high

Mexican food is by far my favorite. I am extrememly picky when it comes to my mexican food. Casa vega doesnt really meet my standards. The food and drinks are more expensive here than other places in the valley. My girlfriend(who is Mexican and was raised in latin home) and I both agree that the food here doesnt taste authentic. Between two people you will spend about $ 80 including tip for a shared appetizer, 2 entrees, and two drinks. Pretty pricey if you arent getting to notch mexican food. Reservations arent allowed, so you must wait as well. I dont mind, but I wouldnt wait for this place. Overall its not a bad restaurant, but its not good either. ** Try Las Fuentes, Salsa and Beer or Sol y luna if you want a real mexican meal!

We usually order our food to go since it’s usually pretty crowded. But if we do dine in, sitting at the bar is always interesting and fun. The bartenders are awesome and so is the way they interact with customers and figure out what they’d like and introduce customers to new drinks. Their Mexican pizza is delicious and a must-try!

Love this place for one very simple reason GROUNDBEEF! Being from the Midwest I’m used to GB on tacos, nachos everything! My go to is nachos with ground beef no Spanish sauce. But today I’m trying the gb empanada burrito. Will update after! Only negative is a little pricey but food quality makes it worthwhile. Perfect date spot as well.

Go for the atmosphere. Nothing else. Valet parking is at least affordable at only 3.50. Cheap well Moctezuma tequila. a decent margarita is about 13 bucks. Shrimp burrito tasted frozen and lacked any flavor. The chips and salsa — chips are from a industrial bag and were stale. Salsa was watery and also bland. Service was very slow. It’s a cool atmosphere, but way under impressed with anything else.

Great service. Great food. Carne asada saga continues with fresh guacamole and made to order chips. As seen on Bravo TV show«Flipping Out» the remodel was top notch. Bring the ceviche back! FOODJOURNALMAGAZINE.COM says: Casa Vega que bueno. Matthew Gregory FOODJOURNALMAGAZINE.COM

Really 2.5 stars. I was not overly impressed with this«authentic» Mexican experience. But, overall it was OK. The restaurant is large on the inside but very old looking and way too dark. Brighten it up a bit and let us see the food! The staff was very attentive and helpful which was great. The food is traditional Mexican-Cali with sides of rice and beans and plenty of homemade tortilla chips. Nothing too impressive. Not the nicest presentation. Not the best portion sizes for the price and certainly not the best flavor. Definitely a good spot though for a quick drink and and appetizer though.

If you’re in the mood for some greasy«authentic» Mexican food in studio city Casa Vega is a great choice. It has been there forever, and aside form a marginal rmeodel of the entry it is like walking into a time warp. It’s old school, dark, and always bustling. Food is pretty solid. I usually opt for the enchilada suizas or mole chicken. All items have been tasty — just do your best to refrain from filling up on too many chips and salsa early on or you’ll wind up as stuffed as a piñata. Casa Vega Margarita on the rocks with salt is always a great option to wash down the greasy grub.

Their tortilla soup rocked my world! I devoured a cup that came with my meal. I plan on going for lunch and getting a whole dang bowl of it next time!

I had the taco salad and found the ground beef to lack flavor. My friend had a flavorless dish of chicken, shrimp and chicken. I found his steak and chicken to be both tasteless and dry. Casa Vega needs some flavor.

I love Casa Vega! I went only one time before a few years ago and now that I am in the area, my friends and I went here once again for dinner and margaritas of course. How this place has only 3 stars is beyond me, the service was great, the food was delicious, and the margaritas, well let’s just say 3 of us could barely walk out afterwards. Was it the best Mexican food of my life? No, but overall it was a fun experience, we enjoyed the food and drinks and of course the ambiance was comfortable as well. I’ll definitely be back :)

Casa Vega used to be «the spot.» It was cool, it was hip, and the dimly lit atmosphere made it super sexy. Case in point: A good friend of mine once met a girl at the bar there, and went out to the alley and had sex with her in his car while we finished our drinks at the bar before dinner… It was that kind of scene.(She was also a single mother who might have been desperate for attention, but whatever works.) The bar is still cool if you just want the vibe, or if you’re a creature of habit or if you just love the history of the place. Over the years though, the food has gone downhill, and the wait for a table has not. So unless you’re with some«who’s who» and you’ve got an in with the place, prepare for a long wait for mediocre food. The dinner salads, for some reason have always been delicious and addictive(without the cheese, please). My friend actually had her wedding reception at Casa Vega, they rented the whole place out and I’m almost certain it was because of the dinner salads, but maybe that’s just my interpretation. And don’t get me wrong, the food is not *terrible.* You will still get your old standards and for the average person who didn’t grow up spoiled on the way it used to be, it’s probably still even very good. The guac is still served with crunchy flour tortilla chips. The usual suspects are still on the menu. It’s just not what it used to be, though, what is these days? They do offer vegans the option to request no cheese or dairy products which is always appreciated and they have a good little portion of vegetarian items right on the menu. For the non-vegans, when it comes to dessert, get the Churros de Rafael. You’ll feel like a kid again. There is street parking if you can get it and of course they have a valet. It’s still got that Old-Hollywood vibe, the red banquettes and the year round Christmas lights but the cool crowd is long gone and it makes me a little bit sad. But I’ll get over it. Don’t worry.

I liked this place. Different. Old timey Mexican vibes. It was a fun and inexpensive casual night. The portions are huge compared to what I am used to back in Canada. I could only eat a quarter of whatever I ordered. It was some sort of salad with pulled chicken on a soggy tortilla thingy. It looked gross but tasted pretty good. I took the rest home and it tasted great the next day. Maybe could have had a bit more spice. The margaritas were super-strong which made everything ok. We saw a guy who probably had one too many fall off his stool at the bar. That was hilarious. The place was packed with all sorts of interesting types. I’d go back just to people-watch.

This use to be our go-to stop in the area for Mexican food. Roll into the nice and dimly-lit atmosphere for lunch or dinner, order up a Cadillac Margarita(or House Marg), and go with a Special Oven Baked Burrito(beans on the side, and extra wet)… The past few times that I have been here with the usual company, we have found the service, drinks, and food to be a little bit, off… or at least not like the good olé Vega we use to know and frequent. Each of these times it has been a mix of busy and slow, but the service was fairly erratic, and not seen often. . Orders were off, some of the food was somewhat warm, and a couple of the more premium margaritas were not on point(lacking a certain volume of premium ingredients, or so we felt compared to usual). Though, I did find that, after all this time, if you really want their tastiest burrito, go with the Carne Asada burrito and make it Oven Baked, rather than the original Special Oven Burrito(with shredded beef). The carne asada was very tasty, and juicy, which is ever so important. Come on Vega… Remember the good times? We can get back there!

After all is said and done there still stands only one leader, Casa Vega. This valley landmark has regained it’s stature among some of the best restaurants in Los Angeles. In past reviews I have foolishly tried to compare Casa Vega to a startup mexican eaterys such as XOC located in Woodland Hills. There is no comparison. Casa Vega may be a bit pricy but ultimately the consistency, camaraderie and friendship at Casa Vega makes it well worth it. Casa Vega cannot be beaten. Marty, the restaurant manager truly makes you feel welcomed to this establishment. Enough with the generalities lets talk food. In terms of margaritas, the boss truly is the boss, the soup is to die for and the burritos are like none other. In closing if you want a great Mexican restaurant. An outstanding place take a date you’re guaranteed to have a memorable evening at Casa Vega.

Came to famous CASAVEGA:) close to my house and decided to check it out. Friendly Server and quick serve. Good atmosphere and casual dining. We tried House salad and Carne Chile Colorado entrée. Soooo Good. Must try this!!! For house salad, it was a little too much dressing in it but you can ask dressing on the side. Like here :)

My husband has been here before with clients and liked it. We came last night and had about a 10 minute wait at 6pm. Not bad for a Saturday night. We were seated at a table in the same room as the bar. I really liked the salsa — so much that we went through three bowls full during our meal. It was dark in the restaurant and I had to use a phone flashlight to view the menu. When I did — wow! I was amazed at how high the prices were! A two item combo was $ 20.50! A single taco was something like $ 7 or $ 8. I opted for a burrito which I think was something like $ 13.50. I added rice and beans for another $ 5, so I would have some rice to share with my daughter. What really bothered me was the overflow crowd from the waiting area came into the room we were in and stood near where we were eating. Some guy had his hand on the back of the booth where I was sitting. A group of four came and stood right near our table. Who wants to eat with someone’s butt in your face? Aside from the really good salsa, the food was just okay.

Don’t be fooled by the«1 check-in». I actually came here many times back in the day. This is NOT your average Mexican restaurant — it’s like«old school» and«Hollywood»(no, not Hollyweird) mixed right in. It has nice Spanish style décor with lots of RED everywhere(red booths, red tablecloths, etc.), not to mention festive ambiance in dimly darkness! Yes, this is Mexican-style vampire chic at its finest!!! ~ Interesting paintings are placed over exposed brick walls with scenes of matadors(bull fighters) that evoke the spirit of old Spain. Yes, I’m well aware that bull fights are considered a form of animal abuse… BUT. I actually lived in Madrid, Spain from the time I was six, so this brings back childhood memories for me, comprende? :-)~ :-)~ :-)~ ~ Wrought-iron chandeliers adorn the main dining room where tables are set to candle light. Note: You will need the candle to see the menu! They are known for consistently strong margaritas on the rocks. It will have you buzzing on the fly with just a few sips. I’ve tried almost the entire menu before I found Unilocal, and my favorites were the chocolate mole over chicken, the chile colorado beef plate, and the yummy albondiga soup. I can’t recall ever having been disappointed with any of their entrees here… even their chips & salsa is fabulous! FYI, it’s $ 20+ for just about any basic combo plate with tacos and enchiladas. Just giving you a heads up because some Unilocalers are rating this place so low over how«expensive» it is. Anyway, I do agree that it’s a far cry from the time when most entrees were priced well under $ 15. Yeah, that’s how long I’ve been coming here! Honestly, I don’t care what they say about Casa Vega because I’ve always had a good experience here. I’m still a fan more than 15 years later.

I’ve eaten here several times with my son and DIL. Although I’m not a huge lover of Mexican food, this place isn’t bad. Service is a tad slow, but if you’re not in a hurry ~ sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere along with some great chips and salsa! The Mexican pizza, under the appetizer menu, is large enough that combined with a salad makes a nice size meal for two or three people. Speaking of salad… their salads are more on the large side, and full of ingredients. FYI: You may want to bring along a flashlight. It’s a tad dark and hard to read the menu!
