I love dive bars and this one is the best. Prices are great. They are known for the roast beef sandwiches which are absolutely amazing. One of the best I’ve had.

A true gem of a dive bar, complete with what feels like a «Cheers» clientele of locals. The bar food is fabulous and cheap, especially if you catch the happy hour. Cash only, sit at the bar to get the full effect.

The food here is beyond the average bar food. The Roast Beef sandwiches are worth traveling a great distance to enjoy. We also can’t resist the cheesesteaks. Either way, Port Hole does not disappoint.

I have never been to this bar but my wife and her friend have. I would like to thank the bartenders for taking my wife’s keys from her last weekend. She was in no shape to drive. Thank you

The Porthole is a great local bar. They have really good food at reasonable prices. The chicken cheesesteak with the works is what I highly recommend(besides the world famous roast beef). Fish tacos are also delicious. The staff is very friendly and personable. I love that they have a jukebox year round, play tons of sports and that they have a pool table in the fall/winter for just a cool buck. Great place to shoot the breeze with the locals especially during the off season. Support local bars in LBI!

I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised coming here. Although the name should be changed from Port House Café to Port House Bar, because there is nothing café-esque about it. Don’t come here for ambiance, let me tell ya. However coming off the beach and looking for a quick, cheap meal, this would be a perfect place. My mom loved her cheesesteak and I enjoyed my Reuben. Especially good for the 20s crowd if you want to grab a drink with friends.

What is the porthole? A porthole is a generally circular window used on the hull of ships to admit light and air. Though the term is of obvious maritime origin, in Beach Haven it is one of the greatest local neighborhood bars. Yes, it’s a bit dark, but it’s perfect. Roast Beef sandwiches which they’re known for do not miss! Try the atomic the Philly cheesesteak if you like hot and spicy then this is right up your alley. Chicken wings aren’t too shabby either. Ask for Ben the bartender he’s incredible. Every year that we are in Beach Haven we make this one of our local stops, and it should be yours too.

Hands down the best roast beef around. Tender, and juicy. Love it with American cheese, tried it with provolone and it doesn’t pack the taste as American. Au-Jus sauce is delicious as well, as the peppers. Need to get a basket of Colorado fries to top the meal off.

It must be a local thing, because I don’t get it. The service wasn’t great and the food was ok at best. Son in law actually had to have a discussion with a bartender asking why they looked so miserable. Place itself is dark and dingy. I guess it’s supposed to be like being in the bottom of a ship? My sandwich had more bun than ingredients. Fries were good. Two people at our table both commented that the roast beef wasn’t as spectacular as expected and they’ve had better elsewhere.

Great little local bar. Good food, good prices and friendly people. A great place to hang out and chat with folks or have a good meal. Never run into a bad attitude in this place. Check it out.

The roast beef here is in a word, delicious! Granted, I’m from Hoboken and it’s not quite Fiore’s Saturday special(that’s worth a trip to Hoboken if you’re from South Jersey and I’m not even kidding). That being said, this sandwich is still a highlight of my LBI trips. Everytime I escape my neck of the woods to the good grooves of the shore, the Port Hole is a definite stop along my way! Everyone here is friendly and it’s an epic locals spot. It’s a few minutes from Ocean Avenue and if you’re on the island… worth a trip!

So I was expecting a Panera-like café based on the description. Not so much. This place is more like a local bar but on the plus side, it’s open year round. My boyfriend and I had the roast beef and the catfish. They were good but nothing spectacular. The service was decent but the bartender was obviously overworked. The tables were kind of sticky. Come here expecting a locals bar where you can have a decent lunch.

This bar is pretty awesome. Beer and shots are reasonable, bartenders are funny(but a little slow for service) and all the food is awesome. Favorites include mini corndogs with a tasty dip and the world famous roast beef(they aren’t kidding!). Peach tree out back occasionally provides some tasty organic peaches.

Nice little shore-y/divey bar in Ship Bottom. Nice selection of beer, their menu was pretty good, with a descent variety of food. Don’t expect fine dining, but it was good, greasy, fill you up fare to go with beer. Nicely fixed up after Sandy last year. I believe they’re open all year — I’ll have to see when I’m down on LBI in January…

Some of the best old school bar food you can get. No frills. $ 2.50 for a 16 ounce PBR. An LBI institution along with the Baker family.

I always stop by the Port Hole when I am in LBI. The Port Hole has a pretty large bar, some tables to sit and eat at and a small game room(arcade). I believe there used to be a pool table there but it’s gone now. Beers are cheap for LBI standards — about 8 – 9 on tap. They have PBR specials every day. Service is pretty fast and friendly. You also have to keep in mind that this place is cash only. My wife and I also stopped in here one night to grab some dinner and try the«World Famous Roast Beef» — that’s what their sign says. Someone also recommended that we order the Colorado fries. The roast beef sandwich was served on a pretty decent deli bun and came with au jus, sweet peppers and some horseradish. It certainly wasn’t the best sandwich I have ever had but it was pretty good. I would definitely get it again. The Colorado fries weren’t anything more than some regular french fries with some seasoning and cheese on them. Not bad. If you’re looking for an unpretentious bar in LBI to stop in and grab some cold ones and some decent food, the Port Hole might be your place. I will continue to stop by whenever I am in LBI.

This place has great prices, the beer is cold. The roast beef sandwich rocks. It’s a great place to stop if you are coming from the beach for a cold drink. A heads up — the service is painfully slow here. So, don’t stop here if you are in a rush. Cheers!
