Black Bear Diner

Food was okay, but the reason I am giving this place 5 stars is because of the customer service we got from Mae (I think she’s the hostess or server.) She is so professional from the time we got there. She greeted us with her sincere smile and made us feel welcome. She made sure that every table are doing okay and served us some water right away (it was really hot outside and we are thirsty). Her actions are simple yet made a really good impression for this place. We will come back again and recommend this place to pur friends for sure. Mae deserves a promotion or at least a bonus of some sort. Thanks again Mae! You made our experience exemplary.

Soo good! And our waitress Colleen was outstanding. Everybody makes you feel like you’re at grandmas house for breakfast. Definitely will be back!

Excellent service by Phillip today :) had a delicious brunch, which is often hard to come by with all of my food allergies. Phillip did a great job checking ingredients and how the food is prepared and everything came out amazing! Thank you for a great experience :)

Had breakfast at Black Bear Diner, today, with my siblings and sis-​in-​law. It was a very long wait, and it was cold and rainy outside, in line. Once we got seated everything was great! Colleen was our server, and she could not have been better! She was personable, funny, fast, and knew what she was doing!
The four of us had different meals (all breakfasts), and we were all very happy with our choices. Everyone had a to-​go box – portions are enormous!
Of our group, I was the only one who had been here before. But, all said, we will be back!

mmmm. The food was good. I went there today with my wife today and i got to say that we both enjoyed the nice brekafast. Was a little packed but worth the wait. We waited about 20 mins to be seated but quickly forgot about the wait time once we sat down and started eating. I would definitely be going back soon with my wife and child

This is going to be a bit of a mixed review.
The ambiance:
The restaurant itself is super cute! Bears everywhere with cute newspaper type menus. It is a little on the loud side but still ok. The seated us pretty quickly while they were busy so this was a nice surprise since we were all super hungry. The greeter was very friendly and answered a few questions that I had because it was my first time there.
The food:
I was hoping the food was as great as the atmosphere but it wasn’t. Our steaks were mostly fat and way overcooked, our fries were clearly overdone or re-​fried one too many times, the fruit cups didn’t look fresh at all, and our lemonades were sour to the point that even the kids didn’t want to drink them. They did get a few items right but overall the food was MEH!
The service:
Our server was friendly but would ask if we were ok without really stopping at our table so we didn’t get a chance to answer his question. He always seemed like he was super rushed so it didn’t feel like very good service even though he was smiling. On the other hand, when patrons left the restaurant, I saw a swarm of employees clean up tables so quickly, it was very impressive! They’re fast!
My 2 star rating is mostly based on the food and our server. I wish the food would have been good because if it was, this place would have easily gotten 5 stars.

Big meal portions. Definitely come hungry and leave full with dinner. Lots of leftovers. The staff is very courteous and inviting. teams just get there before the rush on Sunday morning after church otherwise you’d be waiting for about an hour but it’s worth the wait.

Never a dull moment here. Always spectular service and food on point. The price is reasonable for the huge portions. Blessed to be able to share great moment with love ones in a great atmosphere. Lets say being in the mountains without the mountain.

We came on New Year’s Eve during lunch (around 11:30) and there was a 20 minute wait. Our waitress was very attentive and checked in on us several times even though we were seated in the corner. Great customer service.
I was excited to taste the corn beef hash after hearing my friends rave about it. It was super salty! Their corn beef hash is not from the can, but I think the canned version isn’t as salty as this. The country red potato was delightful though, very comforting. Eggs were standard. The biscuit however was massive! I mean huge and dense. A little hard on the outside but the inside was warm, soft, and so good.
I would give it a higher rating if the food wasn’t so salty.

Took the sister here for a pretty early breakfast. Can’t complain about the food… Portions were big and cooked properly.
Service, on the other hand, was horrible. My drink was near empty and I had to wave down a waiter who, rather than helping right then and there, said she has to assist another table. 10 mins passed and she finally came back to refill our drinks. What kind of service is that?

First time here, so far so good. The host was curious and my waiter was always attending… maybe wants a good tip. Wink wink.
Be that as it may I’m fine with doing a good job. Food looks bomb and I took a bite and bomb

I have to admit that I was pretty sad when I saw that this place replaced the Bob’s Big Boy. However, I am so glad my family and I decided to eat here. All the food here is very good and they give you a lot of it. It’s a really great place to come for breakfast. I really like their Biscuits and Gravy with cheese grits. My kids love their pancake breakfasts. For dinner, I highly recommend the chicken fried steak (no one makes it better).

Huge portions for many of their food items, but average quality diner food.

Wow! That was busy! You will need to get here early because the line backs up and unfortunately the hostesses have no idea how long the wait truly is, they will just say 20 – 25 for everyone. The bar is open seating and don’t be like us and ask if it’s open because you will have some inconsiderate person behind you in line that will hear you and take your spot at the bar. I couldn’t believe how rude and ill mannered that was! Even though they had a long wait and hostesses did not have a clue the food was outstanding and our server was superb! He was friendly, great with follow-​up and made our experience very good! We will be back many times to come.

This waitress was Awesome. Food was hot! Place bright and. Clean.
Ok, just eat dessert… Soo big portions of sweeties! Enjoy and be happy.

I agree with other reviewers as this place is a Breakfast lovers paradise. A huge selection of breakfast items, all of them built on HUGE portions. Alex the server was great and offered suggestions. Did I mention HUGE portions? I got the breakfast bowl. And howdy, was it filled to the brim. I mean it was a huge soup/​salad bowl filed with delicious breakfast items. I saw the pancakes and if you order them, your in for a treat.
I think if you believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you gotta give this place a try.

Fran was our friendly waitress. She was wonderful. The breakfast here is great. My favorite is the biscuit with gravy. And the coffee is good and strong. On my way to the bathroom i saw a picture framed with a menu signed with an autograph. … and it was Fluffy! Eating here was even better knowing Fluffy came to eat here. Obvious im a big fan… literally. Lol.

Today we came in for a late lunch. We had the best server ever! The taco salad was tasteless.
(Big doesn’t make it better). While visiting the restroom I was injured by the toilet seat in the large stall. When I spoke to the server she said she was aware of the problem, and had been injured herself. If I get an infection from your toilet seat you will have more to worry about than a stupid egg.

This place changed my life! I mean not really, but I had never had chicken fried steak before and I recently had my first experience with it. It will most definitely not be my last! We got the breakfast platter and it was big enough for me to share with my husband and we still didn’t finish the whole thing. Also, the pancakes were delicious. My husband said they were a little too sweet for him, but that was my favorite part about them. We substituted our biscuits for pancakes. The hashbrowns were also delicious with some of the hot sauce from the table on them. We were visiting some friends in Long Beach who brought us here. we have decided it is now going to be a new tradition. I recommend coming here and trying the chicken fried steak. I can’t vouch for everything on the menu, but the chicken fried steak gets a 5 star review and a return from me. I literally can’t wait to go back!
Also, almost left out that Phillip was our server and he was great. His service was quick and efficient. He was friendly and fun! Ask for him and you won’t be sorry!

This Black Bear Diner needs some help, seating wasn’t the problem and Yohan our waiter was great, the food is the problem.
Went with a Top Sirloin Steak that came with four crispy shrimp (nice size) and two sides, went with red mash potatoes with gravy and broccoli. The steak wasn’t tender at all, even when I asked for it medium, quality wasn’t there, broccoli was nicely steamed, the mash potatoes were ok, the mash was a mix of potatoes and what appeared to be cheese, gave it a weird taste, not a bad one, but not a great one either.
I tried my friends Bob Big Burger and it was alright, maybe I should have had the burger instead, the fries were crispy and tasted fine.
My experince with Black Bear Diner up north was better but then again I had breakfast and lunch in the Fresno area, dinner didn’t sold me on this diner.
Plenty of parking, from what I heard this place took over Bobs Big Boy location, not sure if that is true since I am not from this area.
