Excellent Academy! The minute you walk in, you are family. Huge mat space, cleanliness, youth and adult sessions, plenty of Black Belt expertise for skills development, and happiness!. Whenever I’m in the area, I will certainly seek to train here.

Great place to train. Top level instruction by Leo Viera. I’ve seen a lot of top level black belts training here and passing through. I was happy with the flow and the respectfulness everyone displayed. The mats appeared clean and there was ample space to roll. Overall good atmosphere and camaraderie.

I have trained at a few places before moving to socal. Most of the time the new guy is kind of out of place, at least in my experience. I can’t say that about Checkmat HQ.
From the first day I walked in there I was treated like family. Everyone is so willing to help you learn, especially Leo. As much of a legend as Leo is, he is probably one of the most humble people I have ever met.
The way he teaches and runs class is unparalleled in my opinion. This place takes bjj seriously, but at the same time it’s fun. If you are a beginner, blackbelt or anything in between I can’t recommend anywhere else to train but HQ. Tons of stuff to learn, from tons of talented people.
The kids program is unbelievable as well. I was at the class the other day watching the instructors work with the kids and I couldn’t help but to laugh and smile. It is truly a sight to see. It’s a big giant serious, competitive, and fun family.
If I could sum up Checkmat HQ and Leo Vieira in 1 word it would be: «Legendary.»
Come and train at HQ, you won’t be sorry.

6 months ago when I wrote my first review, we were just getting started. But as I sit on the couch today, waiting for 7pm to start, I can’t help but feel grateful for the path life has taken me. Everyone I’ve met here has been so pivotal in my fitness mentally and physically and even socially. I remember in an interview with Leo, he described the mission for starting a new team was to establish something more than jiu jitsu. It was to grow together in jiu jitsu as a family. Both Ultimate Training Center and Checkmat HQ are family owned and each member thy trains here has a proverbial stock in company and in themselves.
We train hard here, we care for each other and we push each other to be better than yesterday. Sounds cliché’ but it’s true. Come see for yourself!

Checkmat HQ is a great place for adults and kids of all ages to train at. I have three daughters (13, 11 and 7) who all train there and they love it. It’s a fun friendly environment but most importantly it’s a welcoming family to everyone. I would highly recommend this academy to all.

The best bjj instructors teach here they pay attention to detail and very humble. Great team atmosphere players support each other like family.

After training here, I can’t imagine training anywhere else! The first thing you notice here is there is no real «new guy» attitude toward you. Everyone is friendly and you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door.
The classes are taught by Leo Vieira and a handful of other Checkmat black belts. The training is perfect whether you are a first day white belt or a multiple time world champ. If you are in the area, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t stop by!

Leo Vieira made me feel like a friend and apart of his family within the first few hours we talked. He had an awful cold that he caught while in Europe (coaching at Europeans) that day but he still showed up to give me a tour and made me feel like I would be joining a family not just a team. He showed interest meeting my family and having his wife and kids meet mine.
On top of the nice greeting and welcoming vibe the jiu jitsu here is amazing! VERY high level black belts train here regularly and UFC fighters come to train here often. When I saw UFC fighter Josh Thompson come in to train the first time I didn’t know how to react (I’m a fan of his). When I saw Buchecha and Michelle Nicolini train here it made me very excited to start training. Buechecha and Nicolini both have won the Open Weight division at IBJJF Worlds which was why I was excited.
Current and former BJJ and MMA champions love to train here because everyone makes each other better! If you’re new and have never done BJJ before come here. Save yourself time and start in the right place and enjoy the journey with us!

Great place, great people, great train, actually it’s one of the best place to train Brazilian jiu jitsu in the world, and train with Leo Vieira (the legend as himself) it’s something PRICELESS, it’s totally worth!!!
