The food here is absolutely amazing! My favorite I getting the family size appetizer to share, which really serves as a meal for two. Oh and the passion fruit juice is to die for. The best thing about this restaurant is their Mayo-chup. It’s a mix between mayo and ketchup with a little zing to it. The only thing stopping me from giving this restaurant 5 stars is the location. Parking on the weekends is a nightmare! Wish they would have chosen a better locale but, it’s not a deal breaker. Overall I highly recommend this place!

Lugar: El restaurante luce limpio, cómodo y accesible.

Yes, I am a fan! After visiting PR I began to crave mofongo, but only because it didn’t wow me when I visited. I decided to read the reviews and give this place a try. I ordered the pollo guisado with mofongo. After the first bite I was in awe. The chicken was tinder and well season, although I would have liked it a little more spicy. Hands down this is the best mofongo, I’ve EVER had! I can’t wait to go back. :)

After having authentic PR mofongo many times, I was in search of somewhere in this area that served something just as good. While La Casa de Mofongo certainly isn’t the best that I’ve ever had, it was pretty decent, but nothing that I’d rush back to Silver Spring for(I live in Alexandria, VA). It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t amazing, but it was just«okay». The location is great, in a shopping center right after you get off of the beltway. There is a small lane with parking in front of the building, but it’s best to take the next turn and park in the parking lot. If you go during the week, the parking is metered but I believe it is free on the weekends. The store itself doesn’t look the prettiest from the outside, but as others have mentioned, it’s pretty spacious inside and has a nice bar area. The staff were very nice, but seemed to be a little understaffed for the traffic they were getting around lunch time. I ordered the mofongo de pollo, maduros, and a side of rice. The mofongo itself was okay, with substantial chunks of pork throughout. It was lacking a little flavor, but wasn’t terrible. The chicken was served on the side, and the only thing that threw me off was that it had the bones in it. Otherwise the chicken and broth was delicious and went great with the side of rice. The maduros were delicious– no complaints there. I also ordered two patron margaritas, which seemed like a good idea until I got the bill and realized they were about $ 14 each! Definitely not worth the price there. I noticed that she poured from the pre-made Jose Cuervo margarita mix bottle and then mixed it with Patron. If I had known that’s how they made them, I would have just stuck with a basic drink. Not to say that it didn’t serve its purpose, but it certainly wasn’t the tastiest(a little too sweet/syrupy for me). If you’re in the area, give it a try– I’ll probably do the same just to try something different, but it’s unlikely I’d drive from Alexandria again just to go there.

The food was pretty good and the place was hopping with activity. It appears the place also serves as a dance club after the restaurant closes. While we did not experience a «wow» factor we are likely to return if we are in the area again.

The place seems family orientated. We ordered mofongo & shrimp al ajillo, chicharron de cerdo & tostones. The mofongo had a great taste and consistency. The chicharrones had an awesome flavor and well cooked. The flan & mojito– parcha sucked. Prices are so so.

Let me do this in English to reach a broader audience. I am a Brazilian-American with a lot of experience in the DR(soy aplatanado). The food is wonderful, totally legitimate home cooking dominicano. We’ve had mofongo, sancocho, and the lunch menu with costillas. Great. The servers are really nice, very attentive and professional. I believe they all speak English, so don’t hesitate if you are not a Spanish speaker. The exterior is really not attractive, but inside it is clean, spacious, and just very nice. It’s a great deal for a lunch, very inexpensive and really tasty. Highly recommend!

I’ve been trying to find a good Latin restaurant in Maryland for a few years now. This is NOT it. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, so I know what a fancy AND a chinchorro mofongo looks and tastes. The mofongos offered at this place fall short of everything. The caldo(broth) is tasteless. The mofongo was close to being tasteless. It had chicharron(pork rinds), but it also had pork meat in the middle, which was hard, almost old meat. NOT what I expected. The white rice was bland and the red beans lacked flavor. Las chuletas(fired pork chops) was hard, over dry, over cooked, greasy and tasteless. I could not stick a fork in them. In addition, the shrimp where not de-veined. The alcapurrias were greasy and the meat inside was bland. I did not bother with desert. If the main dishes where that horrible, I wasn’t going to waste money on their overpriced flan($ 4) and tres leches($ 5). Deserts where on display, so I could see that the portion was not proportional to the high price. Everything on the menu was overpriced. I understand that some of the ingredients for these dishes are hard to find in MD, but the portion sizes where to small for the price. Parking was ridiculous. A small strip in the front of the restaurant, that was difficult to get into and exit. People don’t know how to park, so most of the spaces where wasted. The parking lot next to the building doesn’t have enough spaces for the demand of the area. We went on a Saturday, so parking was free, but during the week, all the spaces have a parking meter. To complete my experience, I had indigestion right before the bill came, so the«food» I ate, went right down their own toilet. I was very disappointed in this place. This was my first, and last visit.

I think this rating fits them well. I ask a lot of Dominicans about this place and they tell me its not authentic. that Dominicans are not even cooking in the back. Probably won’t be going back

Food was very good with generous portions. Flavor was great. The sweet plantains were cooked perfectly. Very hot, soft and chewy. The sugary plantains were caramelized perfectly without burning. Service. Our server was very friendly and helped us with the menu when she realized it was our first time there and also didnt understand Spanish. Very helpful and made recommendations. She explained the differences between some of the similar dishes on the menu. One of our Puerto Rican friends says this is one of her favorite places for good home style cooking. It’s the primary reason we tried this place and we so glad that we did. I don’t know about the prior reviews bc we had a great experience here and will go back soon.

I heard about this place through a friend. The service was slow, they seemed busy. It took 4minutes just to order drinks and another 5 for appetizers and meal. I ordered agua de coco. They were out of it. I took a soda de uva(grape soda) and ordered pastelitos de pollo(empanadas) which were good but no came with no dipping sauce and not presented as if someone had taken a bite(they were cut in half). The mofongo de camaron(shrimp) was good but I feel like i have had better at other local dominican restaurants. The pollo guisado was good and would probaly order it next time. I was not offered desert. Next time I come would be with the friend that referred me

I’ve gone a couple times in the past and the food was good. I went again and ordered guisada asada and sancocho. Sadly the carne guisada was super salty, the beans that came with it were watery and the rice was oily. The sancocho was just oily and tasted nothing like what I know to be traditional sancocho, it came along with oily white rice. I was pretty disappointed. This is the only Dominican restaurant I know in my area so I hope they improve. :(

Food was inedible. The mofongo was greasy and had a very disturbing aftertaste. Being born and raised in the Caribbean eating all types of mofongo imaginable, I can say this is the WORSTMOFONGO I have ever had the disgrace of trying. I was ill for the rest of the night. The music was extremely loud to the point I could not speak to other people on the table. There were only two tables occupied in the place(I would not call this a restaurant) and service was unnatentive and rude. Unless you feel like wasting your money and making a late night run for antiacid medication do not come here.

Me and my husband were just driving by and saw this place, we immediately made a u turn and decided to give it a try, we both love mofongo and we’ve had a hard time finding restaurants that sold mofongo. I tried the mofongo con pechuga a la plancha and my husband had mofongo con pollo guisado. Both were very delicious! Si eres de puerto rico, te va a encantar este lugar, vas a sentir que estas en los kioskos de luquillo! Te va a salir un poco mas caro que en la isla, pero vale la pena pagar cuando tengas un bajon de comida criolla.

Ok, I went with my mom &2 friends this afternoon. I had the mofungo with chicharron, mom had the guisa de carne, and my friends had the mofungo with chicken. We also ordered the queso frito as an appetizer. Those items were simply delicious. Everything was prepared to perfection and was super fresh. Why the three stars you ask? Unfortunately we ordered the tres leches cake as dessert. I have never had cake so dry ever in my life. I’m aware that the milk is supposed to fix the dryness, but that was no help at all. It was super sweet, and lacked flavor. I was super disappointed because everything else was delicious. Maybe we got a bad batch… idk. Hopefully next time is better.

One of my coworker was Dominican, so we had been hunting down Dominican food for the past week, and we located one of the two Dominican places in DC, the other one did not open for late dinner. Parking was terrible in the front, there were only a few spaces, and we ended up parking across the street in the shopping areas. The neighborhood was a bit shady though, maybe because it was dark. The place was decorated red and white. We got some Mofongo de Camarones and Mofongo de Red Snapper. They were pretty legit according to my Dominican coworker, and the taste resembled the ones he had back home. The shrimp mofongo was topped with sauce, which made the mofongo less dried, and the shrimps were fresh and tender too. The red snapper one had a side of sauce and the fish was fried well too. For desserts, we got their Flan, and it had soft custard with caramel sauce that was not overly sweeten. Not bad. La Caso Del Mofongo is probably not for everyone, but if you have a craving for Caribbean food, or Dominican food in particular, then this place is definitely the place to be. All the staff all speaks Spanish here and they seem to be «dominicano» too.

This place turns into a karaōke club on Friday nights. We were also there when they were filming a Telemundo episode there. Apparently the owner is friends with a Telemundo host and sometimes they film their talk shows there. We were there on a lucky night. This place has a very authentic feel. We were the only non-Hispanic people there on a Friday night. It almost felt like we were back at a local restaurant in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The music is extremely loud on Friday evenings. They have really amazing speakers here. It was hard to talk without shouting. I liked their mofongo, and the great garlicky sauce you can pour over it. The goat stew was very salty. Some of the things are the menu are priced oddly. Like a side of veggies is 7.99, but the mofongo is like ~$ 3 or something. I got the veggies as my free side that comes with the dish, it was just steamed broccoli, etc. The really nice waiter explained that some dishes come with a free side while others do not. It’s not clearly marked on the menu. Good to get some help from the waiters when ordering if you are new. There is limited parking right in front of the strip mall, but an ample parking lot on the side of the strip mall.

This place is pretty good, the food is delicious. Now let me be clear, I’ve yet to try everything on the menu so I’m only speaking about the food that I’ve eaten. So here we go. Chicharron de puerco and chicharron de pollo are excellent. Also all their guisados are very good. I’ve tried the sancocho and it was really good. It’s a good neighborhood spot. Part of the favorites on my list.

When my boyfriend suggested we try La Casa Del Mofongo, I was excited. He understands my affinity for hole-in-the-wall restaurants and international cuisine, as he feels the same. And he was excited too, because he’s Puerto Rican and loves mofongo. I’ve never had mofongo before, but I loved it and thought it was great. I was a little worried when I saw the star rating here, but I didn’t have to be. My boyfriend considered it authentic, so I’ll take his word for it. I had chicharron with my mofongo. I was going to order the fried pork, but am happy I went with this option. It was super crisp and tasty. As for the mofongo, I thought it was great – the sauce was really flavorful and the whole dish was filling. He had the grilled chicken version, and enjoyed it. I tried a piece of chicken and thought it was good and tender. We ordered some rice and beans as well, and I didn’t love the beans, but the rice was good. My passion fruit mojito was delicious and strong, but please look closely at your bill – I was charged for three when I only had two. So be careful. Happy hour($ 3 and $ 2 beers) is offered from 3 – 7 p.m. on weeknights. Our server was really friendly and helpful. The restaurant is bigger than it looks, and quite clean. It’s casual, with several TVs showing news, sports, and telenovelas. The parking lot is off Columbia Boulevard, which I wish I would have known before pulling into a tiny driveway and having to back out(in tears) onto Georgia. So, like Biggie says, if you don’t know, now you know.

This place provides a great experience with friends, family and/or loved ones. The waitstaff is very attentive from the moment you walk through the door. The ambience is wonderful if you’re in a mood for lively salsa and merengue AND the food is great. For an appetizer we ordered the Picadera platter while great on portion size and variety had overlooked sausage and bacon wrapped cocktail sausages. The tostones and carnitas more than made up for it. I ordered the mofongo with bistek encebollado was finger licking good! I would suggest asking for a side order of muro de gandules to get an overall Puerto Rican dish. The service is attentive and were on point. A highlight for our trip!
