Metamorphosis Boutique is a hidden little gem tucked away off the street of Wayne Avenue, most would not discover it unless they parked to go into Whole Foods. This weekend I needed something African Inspired to attend the Africa Underground event at the Smithsonian African Art Museum. I didn’t want anything too bright, too traditional, or something that did not look like me. Metamorphosis had the right idea. They have contemporary modern mature clothing dressy casual and some formal wear that your artsy woman in her late 30’s on up can throw on and look chic. If you’re a Chicos fan make your way to this place. Sheila was working that day and was so nice. She took one look at me and picked the perfect piece, a cropped vest(black and tan with nice little details). I know your saying THAT’S IT? Well that’s all I needed. For me that was more than enough, it was practical, I can mix it with some pieces that I already have in my wardrobe, it wasn’t trendy, and I can wear it all year around. And that is how I would describe the majority of their clothes. Most pieces average $ 100 on up, not to worry, they did have two clearance racks with 30−40% off. Other items were statement piece jewelry and hand made greeting cards. Another item that struck my fancy was a book they are promoting by author and owner of Toast & Strawberries, Rosemary E. Reed Miller, which gives a time line on African American Fashion Designers and seamstresses from the late1800’s until the present. What makes this book Threads of Time so special? It focuses on Washington, DC as its own fashion hub and the influence of Cosmopolitan African American women in fashion. This is a great place to walk into just to get some culture and originality flowing. Definately sign up on the mailing list they have book signings, fashion shows, its a real artists’ hub!

One of Silver Spring’s newest additions! A clothing boutique for ladies with designer clothes, handbags, and beautiful hats. Very helpful staff, very clean and neat. Next door to Strosneider’s. I think this store is geared towards wealthy African American women because of all the hats. This store has beautiful merchandise and a few one-of-a-kind gorgeous ensembles. Attractive window displays.
