I had a ruptured biceps tendon«repaired» by easily the worst Orthopedist I’ve ever been operated on by — Dr. Christopher Olch. Condescending, inferior care, inferior bed-side manner, rude, and either had a really off day when he operated on me, or he is an inferior Surgeon as well. I’ve had 8 surgeries, so I have a good feel for quality of care, and this guy is the worst Dr. I’ve ever been treated by. I strongly advise anyone and everyone who is referred to him to do yourself a favor and get off the Peninsula, over to Harborview or UW if your insurance permits, so you don’t have to suffer through a botched surgery and prolonged recovery by a complete prick like this guy. My injury is supposed to be one of the easiest surgeries with quickest recovery time there is on the arm. Dr. Olch botched me big time — it took me substantial extra time and money to seek out and implement a multi-faceted treatment plan to recover from this operation — he even gave me the wrong sling after the sutures /staples were removed. It took me a total of 18 months to get back to where I was as a bodybuilder, and this is with every possible approach to quicken recovery — clean, nutrient-rich diet, accupuncture, accupressure, deep-tissue massage, supplementation, and icing/heating compression protocols. The quoted recovery time to reach 100% on this procedure is and was 3 – 5 months. I am sure that The Doctors Clinic staffs some excellent Physicians, but Dr. Olch is not one of them. The biggest problem IMO is that on the Peninsula, the Hospitals only refer you to The Doctors Clinic(for injuries such as mine), so they have no competition. No competition means an almost absolute decline in quality of care, since they know that most of their patients are not going to «shop them» for second opinions, because there simply are no other options unless you get to Tacoma or Seattle, which most people won’t do, or won’t realize they should do. I think we tend to place an almost automatic trust in our Medical Professionals, and it’s wise to seek out the most aggressive treatment possible. I learned this the hard way, so hopefully someone will read this and avoid my same mistake. As consumers and patients, whether we agree /endorse capitalism or not, competition is good for us. It drives prices down, and forces providers to constantly strive to be the best that they can be in order to EARN referrals and patients. Do yourself a favor and interview your Doctor — ask them how many of these procedures they have done, what their success rate on that procedure is, and how they would rate themselves compared to the best in their fields. Get second opinions, and do research to find out who in your greater area is in fact the best Doctor for what you need done. I would give Dr. Olch a zero rating if it were possible.
