I used to shop here. I stopped in today out of necessity. Thank lord jeeseus for Mariano’s and Fresh Foods. This Jewel is expensive. The produce is the worst. I see mold. $ 6.99 for clementines that are old.($ 3.99 at Whole Foods today) They used to have a creepy guy in the meat dept. who would make comments like ‘you so fine’…maybe he’s gone or he wasn’t there today. The final straw that has cinched my ‘never ever going here again’…the bagger literally looked at every item I purchased. She looked at the ingredients. She asked how much an item was. Then she seriously asked the checkout girl how long do you cook these noodles for. Then asked me how to cook these while pointing at and reading the instructions. I try to be kind but wtf??? The groceries are not going to pack themselves and I have sh*t to do. I actually looked around for a hidden camera… can’t be for real. Get some professional workers.

I went there to look for prime rib. I asked the butcher at the meat counter, and he said they only had choice cut. I thanked him and walked away from the counter and over to the prepackaged meat. I called my husband and see if we should get it. The butcher followed me and reiterated that there was only choice cuts in a slow and demeaning way. I asked him why he was talking to me when I was on the phone with my husband. He did not apologize, he just said he did not know I was on the phone. What, I was talking to the meat?!? And he was the one following and harassing me! He would not stop talking when I told him to stop. I ended up walking away from him because he was pompous and did not apologize for being a jerk. I am never going back there again

I will always love Jewel just because it’s 24 – 7. Whether or not they re-stock fast enough, I always find something worth the while at wee hours of the night. Sure the prices of things might be over pricey but going to 7-Eleven will definitely break the bank & has way less of a selection.

I really need to find a different Jewel to shop at. I have been shopping here for the past 2 years as this is the closest one to me. I will now look for another to shop at. There always seem to be a shortage of baggers(seems like one bagger per 2 checkout lines). Also, here are some tips if you are going to shop here: — Do NOT go shopping between the hours of 8:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Lines are super slow due to(and I mean every respect when I say this… it is what it is) the older folks writing personal checks. Lines are super slow during the aforementioned timeframes — Look at the line BEFORE you get in it… I speak from experience — Do NOT go shopping too early(ie. before 9:00 a.m.) as the store sometimes hasn’t pulled old produce/vegetables old to replace with new produce

Not sure if it was just today, or just me, but the items were stacked very sloppy. I also walked down a few of the isles, and seen deli bought items on the shelves. Someone must of picked up food from the deli and decided that they didnt want the item, so they left it on the shelf. Also if you buy meat, check the date! A family that i work with, bought meat that had a old expiration date on it, with a new expiration date covering the old. Very sloppy! Other than these complaints, the store is great. Service is great!

Great service and store. Pharmacy is very helpful. The prices are very reasonable. The quick checkout lines are great. Wish they had more organic food. Would recommend if you live in the area.

This review is specific to the pharmacy. I have transferred all of my pharmacy needs to another location. This staff is rude, dismissive, and when faced with their failure to fill my prescription by the date specified by my insurance company, I have spent the last month fighting to get this fixed, and am now facing running out of medicine because they won’t cooperate with the instructions from my insurance company. All of this while I am recovering from major surgery — and they know it. I have been promised phone calls from the location manager and the district manager and they have NEVER called. I wouldn’t trust any aspect of my healthcare to the team at this pharmacy location.

Don’t know why this is a 24 hour Jewel! Shopped at midnite the eve of xmas eve. They had One– yes One– check out lane without even a bagger. What are they thinking!!! There was a line of over 15 customers waiting at any given time. Didn’t matter how many items people had. Plenty of workers around the store, but no other cashiers or lanes open. Everyone asked but to no avail. Will go out of my way not to go to this Jewel again. They recently took out the self-service lanes touting how they would now improve their customer service. Unbelievable!!!

They updated the store to look like Mariano’s ! They did a good job seems like the new stuff they get is higher quality! The only thing is they took out self serve checkout and at 9 am in the morning they only had 2 cashiers! THATSBAD for business! Now u have to wait forever to get checked out and then the bagger puts meat in with draino! Needs some work but it can be a five star store!

I shop here because it’s close to where I work. I would never do my regular grocery shopping here because the prices are typically very high. I do stop in, however, when I’m craving chicken tenders and tater babies(why don’t they call them wedges, like everyone else?). Every once in a while, they’ll have a sale on boxed items and when I need water bottles and chips for an event, this is my spot. Staff leans toward the slow side but they’re not rude… just disconnected. Parking lot is big, and they’re seemingly always open.

At the Skokie Boulevard Jewel, you must carefully watch the cashiers as they ring up your purchase. Many, many times I have been charged for items I did not purchase. For example, I purchased three cans of soup and was charged for four cans of soup, one box of cereal and was charged for two, etc. I discovered this when checking my receipt at home. I called the Customer Service Dept. to inform them of the overcharges and was told to bring my receipt for a refund. This was a fair gesture, but I am still suspicious of their cashiers. Are they told to do this?

OK. I don’t know if it’s because they’ve hired other people or what, but the service is now incredibly slow. I’m ok with on-the-job training and am willing to wait a bit longer for the new hires to learn the ropes, but over and over again, having to endure an extra long line because one issue or another is intolerable. A few days ago, I waited an extra 15 minutes because they were price checking a candy bar that rang up as 15 cents too much for the person ahead of me. Also, the manager essentially yelled at me for asking a perfectly reasonable question. I will be driving to a different grocery store from now on.

I feel weird Unilocaling about a grocery store, as a grocery store is a grocery store and a positive or negative review is probably not going to change someone’s decision to go there or not. That said, I wouldn’t ordinarily go to this Jewel, as I’m much closer to the Evanston location. But, I happened to be at Old Navy(same strip mall as this Jewel) the other day, and decided to check out this one since I needed to go shopping anyway. It’s much more spacious than the Evanston location, and while the Evanston locale has been out of my yogurt, taco shells, and black beans for the past few trips(how a store runs out of their own brand of beans is beyond me), this one delivered. I also found the employees to be friendlier, and their selection of produce much better. All in all a Jewel is a Jewel and I’m not going to routinely drive 20 minutes to get to this one compared to the one 5 minutes away, but if I’m in the neighborhood at Old Orchard or something, I may plan my grocery trip accordingly to stop here instead.

Least friendly deli counter I’ve ever experienced. So rude, and they act like they’re doing you some sort of favor rather than providing a service.

This grocery was remodeled a few years back, and while the customer service can have some serious improvement, I still stop by here to get some of their Il Taco’s pizza puffs to go — located at the hot food section next to the deli counter(where you find the chicken wings, potato wedges, etc.), there are usually 3 pizza puffs that were recently fried(try to hit the place up around 11ish) — I get all of them and I’m such a happy camper. You can also ask the employees if they can make a fresh batch for you, and that takes about 10 – 15 minutes. Definitely worth it! +Il Taco’s pizza puff — budget-priced :D

My coworkers and I call this the«Angry Jewel» because the experience of buying groceries there will definitely make you angry. The customer service is really bad — nobody working there seems to care. It once took 5 minutes for someone to do a price check for me. The guy strolled slowly to the kiosk at the self checkout, then had a conversation with another customer checking out(not helping him, just shooting the breeze) then another employee before looking up the price. He then strolled slowly back to me to hand me the item back. I almost just checked out without the item. The customers are all clueless too. It’s as if many of them have never been grocery shopping before. They walk entirely too slowly, block the aisles with their carts, and bump into you constantly. It’s only worth going after normal hours — that is after 9:00pm. It’s fairly empty after that. I work right behind the store so it’s convenient for me, otherwise I’d avoid it entirely. The only thing going for it is that it does have a very nice selection of food and it’s open almost 24⁄7.

Food costs more than most local supermarkets. One pet peeve of mine is the inaccurate pricing of food items/merchandise at the register versus the signage on the shelves. It happens way too often at this Jewel. A couple other times, I found an item that I wanted to purchase, but there wasn’t a price for it; so I called a stock attendant, who said he doesn’t know where I found it. I showed him where I found the item, but he said he’s never seen the item before and cannot help me price it. Uhm, isn’t that your job to stock items and price them? If you cannot locate the item, then why did you put it on the shelf? Duuuhhhhhh.

I’ve been going to this Jewel for 7 years. If I had reviewed this store 2 years ago, I most certainly would have given it 5 stars. BUT, here are the issues I’ve got with this store lately: 1) Their prices have skyrocketed at a rate not comparable to any other store I go to. 2) They only have 3 registers open regardless of the time of day, month, year, holiday, etc. This means waiting in line for about 30 mins. 3) Half the time, I have to bag my own groceries since there is no staff available to provide this service. 4) They NEVER have fresh tomatoes, potatoes, onions, lettuce, or grapes — word to the wise, if you like fresh produce, go somewhere else. 5) Their deli counter selection has diminished by about 50% over the last year. 6) They have reduced the number of name brands, and replaced them with their inferior store brands(which by the way, if you price them per ounce, are actually more expensive!!!) 7) I can’t even leave the store, because there are always carts piled up in front of the exit. Can we say FIREHAZARD? 8) The meat department is always half empty. Do yourself a favor, GOTODOMINICKS!

This may seem kind of strange, but this is my favorite Jewel in the burbs. Great selection of produce, juices, cereals, and soups. In addition, I love the kosher section where they sell Aarons honey roasted turkey. it is so yummy! This is a great place to go if you have a party and need to get snacks, party favors(plates, silverware, napkins etc.). In addition, they also have a decent amount of bath products that I can get at a good price.
