Just stopped for breakfast and Olivia was an excellent server and the veggie omelet that I ordered was as big as the plate… Had to share it… Came to the FARMERSMARKET in Skull Valley… The number for this place is 928−442−2333…The number Unilocal has is wrong

Finally got to visit Sal’s for lunch after a few hours of plinking in the mountains and wasn’t disappointed! The menu was simple and the pastrami sandwich excellent; the best part is that the bread was soft and not crunchy and thick. Best of luck, Sal!

Can’t speak to the food because we were never served. But the service was pitiful. 10 minute wait to get a menu. Then 10 more to place our order. Then after 20 minutes more we left. Customer who came in behind us was served, ate, and paid the bill and we were still not served. The young waitress was beleaguered and desperately needed help.

Food was very good. Meatball sandwich and sauce was very good and the beef, sausage combo was excellent. If you’re driving thru Skull Valley and you’re hungry, stop by, it’s worth the meal. Service was good and the owner even came by to make sure we were happy with our meals. Oh, by the way, you can bring your own beer or wine.

Had lunch on the patio at Sal’s Skull Valley Diner today. What a wonderful find this place is! My dad and I shared the Italian Meatball sub and my husband had the Italian Roast Beef and Sausage sub. Both were served with a salad and homemade balsamic dressing. Generous portions and oh so very good! The Cannoli was out-of-this-world good — -smooth and creamy Ricotta filling and the crust had a hint of cinnamon! Serving only lunch but when the weather is a bit warmer they have plans to add dinner. BYOB! What a great place to meet a group of friends! Really worth the drive!

Yay! Someone bought the diner after it closed last year and it’s now Sal’s Diner(or Sal’s Skull Valley Diner). They haven’t changed the building or the décor(which is great) but it’s an Italian menu! We were there for lunch and the place was full… we were offered a couple of seats at a family’s table and had a great lunch. I had the meatball sub and my wife had the Egg Plant Parmesan sandwich. We followed it up with a Cannoli. VERY good! We also looked at their breakfast menu which looked like a great selection of traditional breakfasts. One great thing is they’re currently open 7 days(7:00am to 3:00pm). We like to trail ride the RZR down to Skull Valley and it’s great that there’s a place to get lunch again. For people motorcycling or driving through the area, it makes a welcome and yummy stop. They mentioned they might be opening for dinner soon. This is also a very welcoming place with friendly and happy service. It’s exactly what a diner should be for people who are driving through or people who live near by and want something nice.

Brand new management that can really cook. Been coming here for years and the management has changed a million times. The locals are delighted that Sal has opened up. Great food, fresh and beautiful. Soon to open for dinner too. Yeaaaaa!!!

This is a really reliable diner for a quick and good greasy spoon in town. The wait staff are good and the good reasonable. I would recommend this to anyone in the area.

Orders were taken haphazardly, food was brought out separately, service was slow in spite of a fairly empty place. To top it off, I was double charged for my meal and it took over two months to correct in spite of numerous calls, photo, and email. They suggested I come back to be comped, but given how out of the way this place is, I’d have spent more to do such a thing. I don’t eat at places that I have disputes with, I don’t trust their food preparation won’t include retaliation. It’s crazy how some businesses and communities go out of their way to discourage people from coming back. It won’t be me and I will encourage those I ride with not to eat here either.

Unfortunately, we rolled up for breakfast just after a large group of bikers sat down. The place was packed and the kitchen was slow. I am pretty sure it was just one guy moving very slowly in the kitchen. Our waitress was very apologetic, which we appreciated, but it was still frustrating to wait so long for water and coffee refills. Our breakfasts came out 45 minutes after we sat down. We had chicken-friend steak and biscuits and gravy, both were pretty good. A step up from typical greasy-spoon fare.

The variable quality of the cuisine here gets it only three stars. It all depends on who is cooking and how they feel that day. It ranges from 2 stars to 5 stars. The Mexican cuisine is all over the map. Sometimes they have a green chicken tamale that is out of this world. Their green pork tamale is also excellent. Both are 5 stars when at their best. Other times, only red pork, which is just average, with the filling not very flavorful at all. The sauce they pour over it provides the flavor. Being a tamale aficionado, I ask for them with the sauce on the side. Part of my pleasure of a good tamale is the masa, and sauce can cover up poor masa and interfere with the pleasure of a really good masa. When they are at their best, the masa is 5 stars. The chili relleno can be as good as it gets. Far too many places serve you a little cheese and chili surrounded by a thick layer of dough. These are sometimes a real chili, stuffed with cheese and a light egg batter on the outside. However, some days, depending on who is cooking, the chile relleno is really just an omelet with some chili strips and cheese inside. A lazy short cut. Not bad, but not a chile relleno. We have stopped ordering it, so we are not current. I haven’t quite worked out who is the good cook and who is not, but there is a giant difference. Some days both cooks are there, and it is really hard to get a handle on things. When I do, I will only eat there when I can be assured of the really great food that one or the other of the cooks makes. The Spanish rice is ordinary, but a few shakes of their cilantro La Sabrozita sauce makes it really great. As far as Gringo food goes, there is not as much variation, but there is still a significant difference. The tuna melt is another tremendously variable offering. Each cook makes them a little differently. Sometimes I will have the chicken fried steak and hash browns. I forgot which cook did the deed that day, but it was really, really great. They use a very good quality beef, and the flavor really comes through. The Southwest burger is usually good. The BLT is ordinary, even boring. Taco salad is delicious and quite large. Plan for a nap afterward. Their salads are quite good. Fries and onion rings just ordinary. Call for hours. Recently closing at 4 sun-wed, and 7 thurs-sat. However, they close early if they feel like it, so don’t count on them being open when you get there. The service is always excellent.
