River Grill

I don’t get to Sleepy Hollow much my son is going to a college in Mass, so I’ve stopped in Sleepy Hollow twice this year!
We tried a place a couple of doors down from the River Grill the first time, the place was ok.
This time we tried the River Grill and BAM!!!
The Rive Grillr puts that other place that’s a couple of doors down to shame!!!
I had a bowl of NE clam chowder that was out of this world!
The fish filet sandwich was awesome !!
and the bartender Alex was awesome
A great little gem of a place!
Can’t wait to get back!!!

Went there twice now and each time pleasantly surprised at how good their seafood/​fish dishes are. Started with the clam chowder and Ahi Tuna appetizer. Both excellent. Had their special Lobster on Monday night and the Salmon with crabmeat… Both really good and fresh tasting. Definitely a hidden gem on Beekman Ave in Sleepy Hollow. Service was excellent too.
I hope more people try this place.

If I could give negative 20 stars I would. This experience was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC. In a town where Halloween is its biggest attraction, a restaurant should be overly prepared and well staffed to handle throngs of customers. This place was not.
After trying two other restaurants with two+ hour waits, we found this place bc it was within our budget and bc we were pressed for time couldn’t farther travel into town. The hostess told us about a half an hour for our party of 7. We made our way to the bar to kill time. Good luck getting the surly bartender’s attention because clearly she doesn’t give a shit about tips or doing her job. After waiting for 10 min I had to verbally flag her down and she replied with «one minute», returned five
minutes later. Didn’t put cinnamon on the rim of the cider as she did with all other orders. She didn’t even deserve the 1 dollar tip I left.
After nearly 35 minutes of waiting for a table, we inquired if it would be much longer. Hostess seemed like she had no idea honestly. Then she said «we have seating on our deck if you’d like.» YES, wtf, why didn’t you tell us this when we came in??? How asinine is that!!! As soon as we sat down we told waiter we were ready to order immediately. He took our order … and after asking for water and bread THREE TIMES, we never got bread and got our water 25 minutes later. Our food took about 40 minutes total even though we ordered as soon as we sat down. I saw three tables come and go in that time. The worst part: a large party came in after us was seated inside at a table before us WITH NO EXPLANATION.
The burgers were good thank god, BUT three of the four burgers were lacking cole slaw (as described in menu) and stingy on amount of fries. Christ almighty, this placed really sucked the big one in every single level. Is there any amount of managing at all?!? Who is responsible for all of this failure? It was a huge disappointment and the staff was dishonest in their practices — telling us half hour versus longer and not being forthcoming with when our food would be out. I mean for god-​sakes how long does it take to pour 7 glasses of water. This place really needs to go out of business or change hands.
FUTURE VISITORS TO SLEEPY HOLLOW:
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO HERE!!! We went to Horseman’s Hollow and our experience at this restaurant was by far MORE frightening than the man this his eyes gouged out hanging from a noose.

After an hour wait, we got food that if I am nice can best be described as mediocre. And drinking my drinks out of plastics cups. Granted, the waiter did his best to push the kitchen along.

Seeking a place to eat before the Blaze, I did some seeking and found the Bridge View Tavern. We arrived at 4:30pm on a Sunday and there was an hour and a half wait, we didn’t have much time to waste so we went right next door to the River Grill. It seems like everyone who couldn’t get into the Bridge View Tavern went here so it was a bit busy. We waited about 15min for a table, however to get a drink from the bar took 15−20min. The waiter did apologize and explained the bar was behind on drinks which we appreciated the communication of the issue. The apps were tasty, fried calamari was great along with the dumplings. We then enjoyed the crab cakes which was mostly crab meat and the burgers were nice and juicy. The food does take awhile to come out but the waiter tried to keep us updated during our stay. I was weary about eating here after seeing it being rated only 3 stars, however it ended up being great food and convenient! Also beautiful view when you walk out of the restaurant!

I had the Tappan Zee burger and it was delicious — cooked how I wanted, and perfect for a late lunch. The server was nice and accommodating. There is a deck with views of the Hudson, but it was a little too cold for us to eat there. Overall good experience.

We got baked clams and a philly cheese steak. We sat outside overlooking the river front. Everything was great.

The River Grill is a little unknown gem on Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow. They have a rooftop dining area with magnificent sunset views. The waiter, Genesis, is fantastic. He goes above and beyond to make sure his guests have a wonderful evening. The food is wonderful! The Bridge View Tavern on the corner gets all the action, but, believe me, you will not be disappointed with the River Grill. Very reasonable, too.

This is a great little gem the service was great our waiter genesis was so attentive and the staff very friendly we went there on a Monday and I had the lobster special and my partner had chicken both made to perfection
What a great place

Great value for simple expectations.
We went on a quiet Thursday night and had great simple food and great service in an empty dining room upstairs. If you’re looking to just go out and grab a bite to eat and a drink, this is the place. Right now they have a online coupon that made it possible for 2 people to eat themselves silly, have a couple drinks and leftovers for about $ 45.
We ordered a full rack of ribs, a dinner sized beet salad, mussels, quesadilla, soup and really incredible nachos. .along with 3 beers.. .portions were generous
BBQ sauce for the ribs was tasty, ribs were clearly slow-​cooked.
Salad may not have been «gourmet heritage organic» whatever, but it was tasty and fresh. Quesadilla and Nachos had real cheese.
Although I can see how the other reviewers might comment that there is no view.
This establishment has a full bar downstairs and 2 large dining rooms and a roof-​top seating area. There most definitely is a view from the outside patio. This might be an awkward layout with too many steps for those who have trouble with stairs, but I’m sure one could specify to the hostess when making reservation if you wanted to sit outside.
Overall, it may not be fancy or inventive but we were pleased with everything we had and the dining experience.

Hello absolutely great !!! Love the patio food is great coffee steak is great !! Specials are always good and the services was excellent it did take a while my third time there for the food to come out .but they have to go up and down the stairs and its not like they can see when someone needs something because it’s up stairs so you have to be patient but it’s worth it. everyone is friendly so if u need something just ask someone up there they all work as a team and if you don’t like something they acomadate you. Everyone has there own opinion
so stop reading other people’s ratings and just go.

Fact #1: This restaurant is in a good location, close to the river and next to another restaurant that regularly draws an overflow crowd.
Fact #2: Despite Fact#1, the entire first floor and the entire indoor area of the second floor were completely empty when we arrived at around 7:30pm on a beautiful Friday. We were seated on the second floor deck. The view was very nice.
Fact #3: The waiters have to go downstairs to the bar and kitchen. Our service was slow. Other nearby diners also complained about this. We had to ask twice for water. One table got bread, but no one else did that we could see.
Fact #4: The mango daiquiri was watery. The margarita was good though and you could taste the tequila. We ordered one glass of pinot noir — it was good and a generous pour.
Fact #5: The ribeye special was gamey, chewy and had a lot of gristle. We didn’t want to have to endure another long wait so we ate what we could — a lot was inedible and we left it chewed on the plate. The vegetables (string beans and carrots) were fresh and prepared well. There was a side of fried or baked potato chunks that was slightly undercooked. The chicken risotto dish was fine.
Fact #6: The people next to us complained loudly to another couple that they were charged for drinks that they didn’t order, and that it had happened on their previous visit as well. They discussed it with the waiter who seemed very flustered by it. The waiter said he didn’t put those drinks (wine) on the bill and didn’t even know they sold pinot grigio by the glass.
Fact #7: Despite the bad dinner, we were ready to chalk it up to experience and just pay our bill, tip the hard working waiter and never return. However, when our bill came, a mojito had been added to our bar tab. Again the waiter was flustered and said he didn’t know how it got on the bill or what a mojito was. We were very upset and truly felt that this was a puposeful rip off by a rapidly floundering restaurant. We went downstairs to discuss with the bartender/​manager. He was very rude and insulting to us. Awful. We paid up and tipped the waiter 20% because it was obviously a management problem.
Fact #8: The entire incident was so upsetting that, for the first time ever, I posted an online review. The next day I received a «Compliment» email via Unilocal.It was an insulting email claiming to be a couple that was sitting at the bar that night. Funny coincidence is that the insults were the same ones that came out of the manager’s mouth. And after scrolling through the reviews here, I see that two of the handful of positive reviews on Unilocal are from the two waiters. So, if you do decide to give the River Grill a shot, and you also decide to leave an unfavorable review, brace yourself for an unpleasant follow up email from the River Grill team.

We have been coming here for a while and the view is great. Try to get seated on the deck. The food is also good. I usually get the crab cake but the burgers are also top notch. There are only a couple waiters and most of them are mediocre at best. The best thing you can do is to cross your fingers and hope you get Genisis. He is the diamond in the oh so deep rough. If this place could get a better waitstaff it would be a definite favorite.

Overpriced!
My $ 9 cocktail was watered down, flavorless, and mostly ice. The beets in my salad clearly came from a can and we’re not fresh.
The fries were not bad, but the BLT wrap was a bit dry and in need of mayo.
I also had to send my water back because there were white flakes floating around in it. (Breadcrumbs maybe?)
Our waitress was attentive but seemed very uninterested and didn’t smile.
Maybe she was having a bad day.
I wouldn’t recommend this place for the price, go next door to the tavern instead!

Enjoyed a great meal and great view of the Hudson tonight — a beautiful summer evening. Crabcake tasted as if caught moments before from the Hudson. Attentive service throughout the dinner.

I wish I had checked the reviews on this place before booking an office lunch here. Came in on a Thursday at 12:30. Place was empty. There was one bartender and one host/​waiter/​bus boy. Although he was very sweet, he was extremely slow and extremely nervous. His hands were shaking when he placed our drinks and food on the table.
We started with the spinach artichoke dip, quesadillas and tuna. I had a salad, one woman had mussels (she absolutely hated them) and everyone else had burgers (which they all enjoyed). Food was good but not great. Service is very slow. We sat upstairs and the waiter had a mini sized tray… which resulted in no one having their food or drinks served at the same time. The restaurant is NOT located on the river and there is no view. There are a ton of beautiful restaurants in this area and along the Hudson that are worth trying. This place simply isn’t one of them.

Great place. We came with our puppy and they put a table for us outside. It’s nice to find places were people are genuinely friendly We will come again!

HORRIBLE!!! We went on a Saturday night, they ran out of hamburger meat, they had no blue cheese dressing & the waitress told us the fried raviolis will take an hour. The icing on the cake was when they handed us the wrong bill. DON’T GO HERE
TWO THUMBS DOWN

The reviews on here really do this place a disservice.
We came in around 5:30 P.M. and there was no one at the host stand. Admittedly I did think that maybe these Unilocal reviews weren’t overly critical. But that’s where the only hiccup happened. We were sat at a table by the bar and service was quick and efficient. No mistakes. No missed orders. No long waiting.
I don’t have a single complaint.

#25 The brunch over here, is very good. I went to meet with a friend; over here he always has told me how good the food is over here.
I only had eaten before the slider that is very good, some Chicken wings on Sunday football.
So I order the Steak Medium and easy over cook eggs with fantastic fried potato: It had a great taste, I love how the way my egg albumen, bathed my steak, and then dipped my potato in it. I enjoy very much how my steak was cook it was perfect for me.
