This place is a nice little breakfast place for the family. The fam and I were visiting and on our last day we were looking for a place to get a decent breakfast but affordable as well. My wife Unilocaled this place and based on the reviews we decided to explore it and I’m glad we did. The minute we walked in we were greeted with good mornings. When we sat down our waitress took our order right away and it came out pretty fast. I ordered the prime rib omelette, my wife ordered the shrimp omelette, my brother n law ordered the philly steak and cheese omelette and my other brother n law had the #3 with one egg. When everything came out it looked great but tasted even better. The biscuits is was caught our attention though. They were so soft and melted in your mouth. My brother n law and I had to order two more they were so good. I highly recommend this place for breakfast and make sure you double up on your biscuits.

We were there this morning around 10 a.m. for breakfast. It was busy as usual on a Sunday morning but there were plenty of servers. I counted 8. After being directed to a table by a male server who was friendly, we waited quite a while for our server, Diane. My husband ordered coffee and all I wanted was water. After a few minutes she brought his coffee and 1 menu which she basically threw on the table. No water. She came back a while later and quickly dropped off another menu. By that time we had shared the one we had and were ready to order, but she took off. My husband again asked for my water. No response and no water. She finally came back and took our order… No water. My husband asked again. No response. In the meantime, we watched her start other tables… They all got water. Our food came and it was good, as always. I’ve been a customer of LA Pines ever since I moved to Slidell in 1989. I refused to ask for water again!!! Finally, she brought water for both of us and literally threw the straws on the table. We were shocked by her as the servers have always been wonderful! They do, however, have their favorites. The bill was dropped of quickly. She looked rushed and confused. Yes, it was busy but I also observed the other servers. They were busy, smiling and friendly to their customers. Another server(young girl with short hair) actually brought my husband more coffee as she was checking on her tables. My husband finished his meal and I asked her for a go box as I just wanted to leave. I had just gotten off work and was ready to go home! She passed us several times … No go box. I asked again. No response. Finally, after passing us a few more times she got me a box and again threw it on the table and I think I heard a «sorry». Now, I have lots of friends whose daughters are servers and I am a VERY good tipper as I know this makes up the majority of their pay. Usually 20%, often more. I tip based on service. Even mistakes don’t make a difference to me. Rudeness does!!! The only reason I gave 3 stars was for the food. I am always happy with that at LA Pines. This girl was rude, so here is a tip for Diane… You might be in the wrong job!

I’ve come to LA Pines many times, and would summarize the restaurant as such: good food, bad service. The waitresses are unfriendly, old, and slow unless you are their personal friend. However, the food itself is worth coming back for! I love the country fried steak, home fries, biscuits, crab benedict… you name it! Weirdly, this place was shown on Guy Fieri’s show. That probably helped business some, as much as I dislike that guy.

Hankering for some home style breakfast had brought us to La Pines several times now. We’ve always gotten seated promptly and waited on in an acceptable amount of time. The pancakes, waffles, bacon and eggs are all superb. Served piping hot with butter and a range of syrups(the blueberry is the best), we haven’t been disappointed at all. Great little local place that serves up the hearty home cooking you’ve been hungering for!

The food here is good, and the prices are reasonable. The people are very friendly and the service is ok, depending on who you get. It’s an older looking building, not quite quaint but still has that mom and pop feel to it. Really good breakfast though. Busy on Sunday mornings but worth the wait.

Don’t buy gift cards here, althought the LA Pines card we had listed no expiration date, the? manager(tall man) said it must be old because their new system does not take it! NOAPOLOGY, NOOFFERTOCOMP, NOOTHERCOMMENTFROMHIM. We had laid the card on the table for the waitress when seated. She said«good, I will take when you are done. If management is this uncaring(bill was ~~$ 30) about customers, what else?

Was not impressed. My breakfast was below average. Not much taste in anything except for the home fries. I love a «Benedict» with fried chicken on a biscuit with gravy but this one was terrible. Usually you get a nice thick fried piece of chicken. This was I don’t know what. A piece of chicken that had been beat down thin and cut into a circle and breaded and fried. So gross. My husband’s crab Benedict wasn’t much better, the crab cakes were thin and overly fried and the Benedict didn’t come on an egg muffin. It was just the terrible crab cakes with the poached eggs and sauce. Definitely not coming back. Guy Fieri must’ve been here a loooong time ago. Side note: the carpet is disgusting.

This place was awesome! I had no clue it was featured on TV but found out when I got there! I am a Vegan and so my breakfast was not on the menu but made up on the fly when I got there! It was one of the best tasting breakfast I have had in a long time at least out to eat! Perfectly seasoned and delicious! I want more now please! I took pictures of their menu since when I was researching this place online before I went someone mentioned it was impossible to find online! I highly recommend checking this place out! I will most likely stop by again when I am on vacation! Amazing! I was also in a hurry to get to a Swamp Tour and our waitress was amazing and delivered our food in a timely manner!

I was at LaPines twice in a week. The first breakfast was the skillet breakfast. It was tasty and filling. Nothing super special, but certainly acceptable. In my prior visit the waitress said the Philly Cheese Steak Omelette was delicious and popular. So, on my second visit I thought I’d try it. What a horrible looking omelette; flat, weird color, just thin sitting naked on the plate. It tasted bland, looked bland and was a horrible breakfast. The waitress was a grandma type, no personality, other than asking for my order she had no personality at all. Seemed unhappy to be there. Not that she had to entertain me, I liked grandma types. All in all, a good first experience and a poor second experience. p. s. the biscuit was good though!

The staff is friendly and very kind. You will walk in and be seated where you like. They will immediately come get your drink order. They give you decent time to review they small but detailed menu. The coffee isn’t anything special but coffee. The food taste great and it’s great Sunday comfort breakfast good.

Found this place on our DDD app… drove out of our way on our trip to GA from TX to try it and glad we did. Had the smoked prime rib po-boy…yum! It is recommended to eat it upside down to avoid it falling apart. One of the best I have ever had. Customer service was great and attentive!

Had their meatloaf special and it was perfect. It comes with a slice of meatloaf the size of my forearm, cheesy potato gratin, spiced green beans, and a buttery biscuit all for $ 6.95. Will be back whenever I’m up in Slidell.

My boyfriend and I drove out of our way on a trip to New Orleans to visit this place. We’d seen the episode of DDD and were eager to check it out. We came on New Years Eve, which was clearly a mistake. La Pines was closing at noon and we arrived at eleven to find out that they were only serving breakfast — major bummer when you wanted to try the special from DDD that was a lunch sandwich. The breakfast menu was limited, but there were several eggs Benedict’s on the menu and at prices that were far more reasonable than we’d seen in NOLA so we thought SCORE! We ordered one traditional and one cajun benedict as well as the hash brown casserole. We were told that they were out. Shame, but we settled with the benedict’s. This place definitely put the Dive in Diners Drive ins and Dive’s(there was a bug zapper on the wall over my head…) but we’re no snobs and it didn’t have the vibe of being dirty. All the wait staff seemed seasoned and the service was generally pleasant. Several folks came in and walked back out after hearing it was only breakfast — an option we weren’t afforded until we had already sat down and been given menus and drinks. Anyway, the food came to the table and looked simple but pleasant enough. The cajun was meant to come on a crab cake which I originally thought was a mistake — it looked like it came on a sausage patty instead. We were each going to have one of the eggs on each plate and I began with the cajun. Not a sausage patty at all. I’m still unsure of how it got to be that color but it wasn’t an appetizing look at all. There seemed to be a lot more filler than crab in the cake itself as well. The egg was the real problem, though. We make benedict at home for ourselves fairly often and I love nothing more than a runny yolk to spread out over my breakfast! Yum! One of our four eggs had a slightly gelled yolk. The rest were solid. We thought we were safe ordering the dish from a place that had so many on the menu but it seems not. Overall it wasn’t a terrible lunch, especially for the price. I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to vista, though.

Small town dive on the Northshore. This place was made famous because of Triple D. My girlfriend and I went on New Year’s Eve morning and were excited to try out some of the lunch dishes that Triple D made famous. We were not informed that they were limited to breakfast only because of the holiday?! Still determined we selected from the many eggs benedict choices on the breakfast menu. I ordered the traditional eggs benedict while my girlfriend ordered the Cajun benedict, eggs benedict on a crab cake served on a bed of hash browns. We figured that with such a prominent placement on the menu the eggs benedict would be on point. Sadly we were disappointed, the poached eggs were overcooked with only one yolk having a slight runny texture. The crab cake was more filler than crab and was an unappealing brown color. The hollandaise was lacking the needed acid to cut through the richness of the butter. The service was fine and friendly. The restaurant was divey, down to the bug zapper above my girlfriend’s head, but the restaurant was clean. We were a bit surprised that the restaurant closed at noon on New Year’s Eve, considering they normally close at 2 pm. The staff did seem to be in a hurry to get people out, repeatedly reminding a table behind us that they were closing at noon. This place is not a place I would go out of my way for breakfast, which it is a bit considering it is nearly 2 miles off the freeway. If lunch was available it may have been a different story.

I saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I just had to come check it out. It definitely is a dive, that’s for sure. It’s a great little place! Actually we left a day early for our trip just to be able to come. I had seen pictures of the onion rings and I heard they were large. I had no idea that they were THATLARGE! Look on my picture and use the spoon in the sauce for comparison. I don’t have a clue where they get them that big. I got the Prime Rib Poboy. It was so good. I loved the smoked flavor. I also loved driving up and seeing the smoker right out front cooking away. The waitress, Laura, we had was very helpful. Gave us advice on how to eat the sandwich without making too big of a mess. I used about 6 napkins between the onion rings and the sandwich. Laura even got us a drink to go. So glad we came. We are going to try to get back here Sunday morning for breakfast if we can. It’s definitely worth checking out. It’s a great little dive! Well… Since lunch was so good on Thursday, we decided to try breakfast on Sunday. It was also very good. Wish I could have eaten more than I did. Everything looked so good. I’m sitting around looking at what everybody has ordered, and it all looked so good. I finally ordered grits, sausage biscuit, and hash browns. It was all very good. My husband got Cajun Eggs Benedict. It was crab cakes and poached eggs on a bed of hash browns, covered with Hollandaise sauce. He loved it. Again we had great service and wonderful service in this amazing little Dive. I look forward to coming back here next trip!!!

Yep. It’s a dive. But the food, although not memorable, was ok. We went in for lunch and were seated right away. Our server was polite and efficient. I had the Philly Cheese Steak which is served on Texas Toast. It was really good albeit different to what I’m used too. My hubs had the Mama Jim’s Debris. He enjoyed it. Although, hence the name, it’s pretty messy. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding. That was just blah. All in all, we had a decent meal but we won’t be itchin’ to return.

Is this a diner or a dive? Not quite sure… When you enter the place it doesnt look like much… it’s like a local hole in the wall breakfast joint. The food here was excellent! I got pancakes — with peanut butter and banana’s! They were so yummy! If you are going to the Honey Island Swamp Tours, this place is a great spot to stop by and get a bite to eat on your way there or out.

In Slidell for business, randomy found this place which turned out extrememely well for us :) The food: We came here for breakfast. I got the shrimp omelette which is a shrimp and cheese omelette topped off with a roux based sauce with crawfish. It was a nice hearty start to the morning. Their grits are nice and toothsome especially with some butter. My wife got the number 4 special which I believe is a short stack of pancakes with corned beef hash. The hash is so-so, pancakes are pretty good. The coffee however, was a bit dilute. The ambiance: a small town dive feel with very casual décor and simple furniture. Seems to be mostly locals here who know each other. Very down-home feel, I love it. Parking: a bit limited, but people are always coming and going Overall: pretty deserving for a feature on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Stop by if you are anywhere north of New Orleans!

I’m not La Pines biggest fan. I know people kind of rave about it, but I’ve been seriously underwhelmed dining here. I went for breakfast not long ago with the boy who loves bacon more than any person that I know. It was packed and it was only 8 in the morning. All he wanted was bacon and toast. They were out of bacon, the waitress tells me. Really? How in the hell does a restaurant known for their breakfast run out of BACON?! At eight in the morning?! Ummm. Ok. Moving along. I ordered sausage and toast for him instead. I ordered myself my favorite breakfast item ever… eggs over easy. Oh. We are out of eggs the waitress informs me. Uh. WTF? Seriously?! I just didn’t order anything for myself because I was sort of disgusted at that point. The coffee was good and the waitress was friendly and apologetic but I was left with a bad impression of the place. I recently dined here again at lunch despite the previous visit and again, was not impressed. I ordered the grilled shrimp poboy and it was very bland. I am always surprised when I order something in a restaurant around here and it’s bland considering where we live. I mean, am I right?! I won’t be back.
