Chris Shim, DMD

I’ve been a customer of Dr. Shim for the last few years. I was referred by a coworker, and have kept coming back. Here are my general thoughts:
The Good Stuff:
The staff is very polite. I always feel welcome, and they don’t hesitate to answer questions.
They run on time. I’m always seated withing a few minutes of walking in the door.
The hygienists give my gums a good work over. My teeth always feel clean after leaving. They make sure to be gentle, and ask repeatedly if I’m in any pain at all.
Dr. Shim is professional and nice. He does a great job with dental work, and gave me and excellent referral for my wisdom teeth removal.
I really appreciate the text message and email reminders I get about my appointments.
The Not So Good Stuff:
Hours are pretty restrictive. Something like 9 to 5 with an hour break for lunch. I find it tough to get a time where I don’t miss work.
They have TVs in the dental chairs, but they are never on. If you’re in to this sort of amenity, it might turn you off.

I’ve gone to Dr. Shim for the past 6 – 7 months now (2 visits) and have nothing but great things to say. All the staff are kind and considerate. I’ve not been left waiting for more than a couple minutes. They are gentle, yet thorough. I also really love my hygenist although sadly, i can’t remember her name at the moment. She’s strawberry blond, kinda tall and a runner. She remembered me after just 1 visit and must’ve reviewed my chart before i got there. Very professional and pleasant. A previous dentist told me I had 22 cavities that needed filling. I went to 1 other and Dr. Shim for second opinions. Dr Shim said there are no cavities but just spots we need to watch. He told me what to do and 7 months later, those spots are just fine and do not need fillings. He’s very conservative which i like, and he doesn’t try to push any «extras» or unnecessary treatment. I highly recommend Oakdale Dental and Dr. Shim.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend Dr. Shim for a couple of reasons. First, Dr. Shim’s office billed my insurer for a panoramic x-​ray that he did not need or take (he had received my recent x-​ray from my previous dentist).
Subsequently, my wife visited him when she had a major toothache as a result of a crown gone bad (previous dentist). Dr. Shim prescribed an antibiotic, referred her to an oral surgeon for a root canal, and could give her no useful advice on how to deal with the unbearable pain other than suggest that she visit an emergency room.
I ended up taking her to the emergency room where a nurse recommended double dosages of ibuprofen, which worked extremely well.

The office is new, clean and the lay out is very patient friendly. Dr. Shim and his staff are all friendly and informative. I appreciated the visit with Dr. Shim in his office after the cleaning to go over x-​rays and my concerns. He takes his time and I did not feel rushed. they do give you a great toothbrush to use with your normal goody bag for your mouth. It was a great visit. The only reason they did not get 5 stars is that I have had a few insurance filing issues but I cannot pin down who is at fault, Dr. Shims office or BC/​BS. But his office has been very helpful trying to get it straightened out for me. I am glad they are so close to home, it makes it very convenient.

Amazing!
Dr. Shim is the best dentist I have ever been to. The office is very modern, clean, well lit, and comfortable. His entire staff is friendly, well spoken, and caring. Dr. Shim is the only medical provider that has ever done a complete oral exam checking not only my teeth and gums, but my tongue, cheeks, lips, and palate. I went for my first cleaning at Dr. Shim’s office ‘Oakdale Family Dental’ and he spent extra time with me to fix an existing problem from a previous dental repair, no extra appointment needed. They also give you a really nice toothbrush at each visit. Thanks Dr. Shim!

Dr. Shim is awesome as are his hygienist and assistants. The office is modern and very comforting. He is very knowledgeable. It is affordable and local to everywhere! I would not visit another dentist. I TRUST him!
