I have been going to Deeply Rooted since 2007 and they have done a wonderful job on my locs. I have no complaints there. I have a problem with the way they treated my daughter. My daughter is 10 years old and TWICE I have had some problems. The first time I made an appointment to have cornrows applied to my daughters hair(two weeks in advance) two days before the appointment I got a call saying that she’s not able to do it because the appointment setter set the wrong time. Then the stylist calls me and says that she doesn’t do braids at a certain time because she has kids and she’s going to school and she’s not able to do them in the later afternoon. I really don’t care about her personal problems and then she said that since the appointment was already made she’ll honor it.(Like she was doing me a favor) I was appalled and I took my daughter some where else to get them done. Yesterday, my appointment was at 1:30(and I live in Woodstock, GA) and I was on Bells Ferry and I knew I wasn’t going to make the appointment. So, I called and rescheduled. They asked when I could come in(the same day) I said the latest I could get there was 2pm. They said fine. So four minutes before I arrive at the shop I get a call saying that they wouldn’t be able to take me or my daughter because they are booked. At this point I am pissed and I went to the shop anyway. Got there and they said they’d take me but not my daughter. I told the stylist that I’m not coming twice; and that’s why I got our appointments together. Also, I told them I called to reschedule. Utlimately, she took both of us. I got loc maintainence and my I wanted my daughter to have a twist out. The stylist said that she’d be happy to do it. The end result is that my daughter hair was really jacked up! At the end she said that she hated to do twists on kids because they never turn out right! She told me that she could do my daughter’s hair! If she wasn’t able to do it she should have said something! NOW I HAVETOSHELLOUTMOREMONEYTOCORRECTHERMISTAKE! Don’t take your kids here. They’ll get screwed!

I am almost a month into my loc journey and I have to start over. My locs were started here and I would recommend that you go somewhere else to have them started. I had a vibe about my consultation, but brushed it off. The consultation lasted about 5 minutes where 4 of those minutes was me feeling out a form. The stylists didn’t ask me what size I wanted, why I wanted to loc, a picture of inspiration, nothing. She informed me of the price and that we would start with two-strand twist. During my actual appointment she did open up a little, but I asked a few questions. I prayed that they would come out right. It was totally my fault for not saying what size I wanted or listening to my gut feeling. The turn out was large parts which I came to know that she was either being lazy or didn’t know what she was doing. Constant reminder: Listen to yourself. You’ll save time and hard earned money.

I’ve been a loyal customer of Deeply Rooted since 2003. I’ve always been satisfied with the service I’ve received. Kim, the owner is an exceptional stylists, one of the best I’ve ever been to. There isn’t a style she hasn’t perfected. Upon every appointment my expectations have been exceeded. She has a welcoming and bubbly personality that adds to the experience. The pricing is more than fair for this level of execution. Just see for yourself.

I am very surprised at the bad reviews. I have never had a bad experience here. The only time I had to wait more than 10 minutes to be washed was when I made a last minute appointment. They are always friendly and positive when I walk in and Marcie does an excellent job on my locs. I’ve been going off and on for over two years(I do my own maintenance) but have been going regularly once a month for the last 5 – 6 months.

Just like some other posters, I’ve also been here twice and I will NEVER return. I initially went to them back in 2007 to do a big chop and I ended up with a cut that made me look like one of The Jacksons circa 1981. With better knowledge of my natural hair some years later, I went to them again in April 2012 for a second big chop and Jennifer hacked up my head!!! She had no definite method — just pulled my 4b hair up and out by the handful without detangling and cut. I showed her TWO pictures of the cut I wanted and it came out looking nothing like it. I ended up with a lopsided cut with a huge gash on one side. Worse part is that she waited until the end to tell me that she didn’t know how to shape it up and walked me next door to the barber shop to «finish» it. The barber himself was confused about what she did and why she started it if she didn’t know how to finish correctly. Needless to say, I was highly upset and let her know it, and left without paying for such horrible service. I assumed after those two bad experiences that the shop catered more to and provided better service for those with dreadlocks, but I see from other posts that this shop doesn’t provide any service well. I didn’t even bother to comment on any of my other gripes about this place since those two bad experiences alone were enough to convince me to go elsewhere. Take heed to the real reviews and STAYAWAYFROMTHISPLACE. If you notice, most of the reviews on here with three or more stars don’t even have a picture of the reviewer — meaning it’s more than likely somebody from Deeply Rooted creating fake profiles to post higher ratings. I know it may seem confusing, but I’m telling you the truth — JUSTDON’T DOIT.

Another thing I must add to their defense: I think some of the other reviewers are exaggerating, no offense. But as far as the stores atmosphere-its great. Nice, open space. The place is not big by any means, but its roomy and the lighting is good. Its on ground level where the entrance opens into the parking lot and a glass door and window. Plenty of room to sit and the front desk is directly across from the entrance door. The staff is Very hygenic. They replace wet towels and always make sure you have a fresh clean one. The products they use are great. The shampoo ppl do a thorough job and the price is great-so dont know why some ppl placed them at a more than moderate price bracket. Its 60 for maintenance and a style. Doesnt get much more reasonable than that. If you go here make sure to schedule with Kim for the best maintenance. Toya is also a decent stylist-she just doesnt work well with my hair, but Ive seen her do nice job with others. But what I said in the previous review still stands. Staff needs some revamping. Hope it gets better.

I have been to this salon twice, and I will not return. Like another reviewer, I was underwhelmed by the greeting I received when I walked in the door. I had the same low-talking shampoo girl. The loc-maintenance was standard, however I had to stop the shampoo girl from putting a creamy conditioner in my hair. How can you do locs and not know that cream creates build up in natural styles? I should also mention that my stylist, Kim, was about 30 minutes late on starting my hair. The furniture is ancient, the chairs uncomfortable, and the hair drying machines barely heat up, they must be at least 15 or 20 years old. I usually don’t return to a place when I’m not impressed with my first experience. But I returned maybe to give another chance, maybe because I was too lazy to find another salon lol. However, the second time I showed up, Kim was nowhere to be found. Another stylist told me she left, and that she meant to call me but forgot. Really?! She also had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to reschedule… As if I have nothing better to do than be stood up by a hair stylist. Whoever said that this is the best place to go is either related to one of the stylists or in love with her lol. They cannot be for real. Maybe it was sarcasm.

This is kind of an odd place. I went here a few months ago and the first oddity was the lackluster greeting upon arrival. The set up is a little odd and the girl who greeted me spoke at a low volume. The room you first enter into looks like a store — so you don’t initially see where the stylists are. I kind of just stepped in and didn’t know what to do. One of the other reviewers described this as the«flagship» salon. If this was«flagship,» I’d be afraid to see the smaller shop. There was nothing«flagship» about this place in a visual sense. This shop is pretty big, but all of the furniture is old and it was hard to tell who worked here. People were sitting around in old folding chairs and at oddly placed tables and I didn’t see anyone in uniform, so as I stood there at the entry, the woman finally told me where to sit. I ended up waiting and had to ask for a «status.» I was then told that the shampoo person would come get me. The shampoo girl was sweet, but she also spoke very low and it was frustrating to ask her a question and not hear a word in a response. If I had to give some advice to the owner — greet people and be welcoming when they arrive and explain your processes. Kindly tell people to sign in, have a seat or whatever… But the beginning of my visit was quite awkward and I felt very ignored. One my personal«rules» is that I do not work hard to spend my money. So I should not have to run after people trying to understand what to do next, where I am in the queue, etc. As I indicated before, everything here looked pretty old. From the furniture, to the flooring. It was all just old. It was clean, but dingy looking. After my hair was shampooed, I eventually got into a stylist’s chair. She seemed a bit unsure of herself. She was nice, but not very confident. At one point, she asked me if I was going to come back. Awkward. The stylist did okay with my hair, but absolutely nothing special and nothing worth returning for. She blew it dry and straightened it and I was out the door. I don’t plan to return. This place needs better service — the workers need to learn more about building the relationship with the customer from the moment they enter the door. Everyone seemed tentative, hesitant and unsure. No one seemed comfortable or confident in their role. Maybe some training will help. Also, this is probably one of the worst looking shops I’ve seen in a while. I could probably overlook that if my hair had been slammin’. But it wasn’t. There are much better salon options for curly/kinky hair in Smyrna.

1st gripe — not accepting credit cards 2nd gripe — the most uncomfortable chairs EVER 3rd gripe — still using products w/mineral oil, beeswax or pretroleum in them 1st positive — Loc maintenance is well done so all in all… a mixed bag so while i’ve definitely experience better this no way the worst i’ve been to during my loc journey

While some of the stylists can do hair really well, they are not customer service friendly. I have been left in the salon for a about 45 minutes while my stylist went to the cell phone store to buy a cell phone. Not cool! If you look on the internet about other reviews they have had, they are also not good.

Deeply Rooted used to be the spot to go. I liked it when they had the old hair stylist. I went last week and was overcharged and had to deal with Latoya who took forever to do my hair. She palm rolled it 3 times when usually they do it just once. She was the worse and I will never go back there again for that reason.

I have been«Deeply Rooted» for over 6 years and I love it! They take wonderful care of my hair and it shows. My locs and scalp are healthy and the styles are always fabulous. I’ve been to both the South & North locations, and I’m always excited to hear that they are growing. Stacy & Nia are my stylists-love them to death!
