I started going to Do’s and Lipstick before they moved to Cedros, about 10 years ago. When I first went to Do’s and Lipstick, my hair was a mess and needed lots of TLC. Derek and Monique saw to transforming my hair and I have been hooked ever since. Since then, Monique colors my hair as well as my sister’s hair, although I have seen Lisa and she does an amazing job as well. Everyone who works at this salon is friendly and kind, and my appointments feel like I’m catching up with good friends. I always leave feeling beautiful and with a smile on my face.
The products offered at this salon are also wonderful. The stylists are all very knowledgeable and make great suggestions depending on your hair type.
I can’t imagine going anywhere else! I love this salon and the people in it!

Whoever the person is who said the customer service here is awful is totally right. I made an appointment a week in advance, walked in for my brows and the receptionist said there was no record of my appointment and was extremely rude. They managed to see me anyway, and the lady did a nice job on my brows… but the customer service from the front desk left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially since I have been going there on and off for 6 years.

I usually never write bad reviews but today I walked in with my friend and received the most appalling customer service. I was honestly speechless.
I mentioned that I worked for an active studio and if I could grab business cards of the salon to post on our community board (also for me and my friend, she and I have been looking for a hair studio around the area for the longest time). When I asked for business cards he said «no, I don’t want to hand them out.»
The man who spoke to us was incredibly rude, he was not welcoming whatsoever. It made us feel so uncomfortable.
I am rating 1 out of 5 solely on customer service… It doesn’t take much to be a friendly person, especially if you work in the line of customer service and building clientele.

I have seen Derek and Mona for over 20 years. Derek for my hair since before he was coloring gray. a couple of time I have been to busy to drive from Murrieta. Then I mess it up and he has to fix it. I love them both.

Do’s & Lipstick is a very beautiful salon & the staff is talented. Hair, brows & makeup all in one place. The brow sculpting is an art form & is only done with tweezers, NOT wax, so the final outcome is perfect, clean & precise!
Hair color is top quality & even though I’ve gone here for years, each time I come in we review if the colors and style if it is still what I want so color is made only after I arrive and say if I want any changes, no assumptions.
The place is located right next to Belly Up in the Cedros district, which is active and full of exciting energy too. The décor is very bright, huge windows for natural light, beautiful and fashionable, so you feel great when you are there. It is very neat & clean. There is always a fresh live floral arrangement in the waiting area too … A subtle but beautiful touch!
The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs and always offering coffee, tea or water … Very nice customer service touches!
High quality products are available too. Make up, hair & some high quality unique accessories.

Do’s and Lipstick offers easihair pro extensions which is the company I work for. Since they are a client, I wanted to meet the owner Derek and get a feel for the vibe and talent level of the salon. Derek transformed my decent, short haircut into a wow short haircut and spent more time on my cut than anyone ever has. I also perceived the energy throughout the salon as warm and inviting. This salon is truly a cut above.

Hands down the best salon I’ve ever been to. Not only do they do an incredible job in hair, makeup, and eyebrows, but their customer service is outstanding. They greeted me kindly and offered me water/​tea when I walked in. Hair felt amazing and perfectly shaped my face. Eyebrows look incredible. Thanks guys!

Whenever I walk into Do’s and Lipstick, I leave the outside world behind and enter a place where I feel totally nurtured and relaxed! There is no «stuffiness,» just a small, friendly staff with amazing talent. I get such a precision cut from Derek. It’s a haircut with pizzazz! At every appointment, I so appreciate that before he picks up his scissors he asks and listens to how I’ve felt about the cut!
Derek’s wife, Mona, is a makeup artist extraordinaire. I first went to her for a makeup lesson, and was amazed that not only can she take a look at your skin and mix the perfect foundation color, but she can also adeptly show and teach the steps for applying makeup that works for your face structure!
Hands down… this salon will have you coming back!

I recently started going to Lisa for haircuts. She’s great too… really listens to what you want. Love my cut!

I LOVE this salon more than life itself! The owners Derek and Mona Van Cleve are the BOMB and the rest of the staff couldn’t be nice or more talented in what they do! If you want to look fabulous this is the place to go! Give them a call and tell them «Michelle sent you!» They are used to it!

Do’s & Lipstick moved to CEDROS street in Encinitas! It’s a great street, lots of fun shopping, AND now you can get some awesome products as well as your eyebrows and make-​up done! The salon is gorgeous too! Book early for Derek, he’s worth it!

Love the cuts & color! Monique does my color— fabulous and SUCH a doll. Derek cuts my hair and does an amazing job. I like that everyone in the salon looks at your face shape and will talk over the best cut/​color that they think works for you. Tips: Boook early! Derek is usually full 3 – 4 months in advance.
