Service was a zero. Sushi is good. Sat at table for 15 minutes before they took our drink order, forgot our drink order. Took our food order and took a long time and messed our order up. Waited a very long time for order.

This place has gone completely down hill… Don’t bother. The food quality has degraded to something I wouldn’t feed my dogs & the service is horrible. You can get 4 x better food at half the price at Tabu. It’s like everyone here is drunk or on something…

We love Masuo’s, Masuo himself and his staff. We’re regulars and always feel at home and in awe of the best salmon around. Highly recommended.

Fun ambiance, colorful local artwork, friendly staff. Service was prompt and prices favorable. We had exceptional Japanese fries(octopus) and spicey Edamame popped. Would return if lived in area.

Meh. Just about sums it up. Just ok food. Just ok atmosphere. Expensive for mediocre food. I would try someplace different next time I’m in coastal north county for dinner.

My boyfriend and I go here regularly with our dogs. It’s really under rated for how good it is. I always bring guest here and they have always been super satisfied.

On the West Coast, there is a glut of sushi restaurants! This one is only okay. Food is good but not exceptional, wait staff is friendly but poorly trained. Back patio is nice — would be better without the piped in dance/pop music. We may come back but we won’t hurry!

I popped back into Masuo’s on a Sunday at about 5 pm and the restaurant was empty so we scored a lovely outdoor table. The creative menu includes an interesting variety of specialties. I honed in on a roll with tempura shrimp and crab inside, then topped with hamachi, lemon and sriracha. My guest decided to try one topped in shrimp and tuna which sounded much better on the menu than what we received. Each of these 16⁄17 dollar rolls had much less fish than what I would expect them to have. The pieces of hamachi were thin and similar in size to the lemon bits on each roll. I enjoyed the flavor of both the crab mixture and hamachi, especially with the warm crunch of a tempura shrimp in my selection. Unfortunately on the other roll the shrimp had a bit of a moldy after taste and just did not come together well for me. The rice was so over processed that it could be described as a white spread smeared around the nori. When the waitress came and asked how our meal was I told her that I liked my roll but disliked the second roll. She smiled, said great and walked away. This begs the question why she bothered to ask at all, wouldn’t it be better to skip the question if you are not prepared to respond? So we cut the meal a little short and paid the tab. This may be an ok location to grab a bite in a pinch, it just does not float my boat.

I didn’t know what to expect as a first-time visitor to this Sushi Restaurant. Was I in for a great surprise as the Tuna Tataki was thick, evenly cut, and so fresh it melted in my mouth! What was more amazing was the Hamachi Kama(cheek of the Yellow Tail). It was the thickest piece of this style of fish I’ve ever had. Also, it was cooked to perfection, and was savored to the last bite. Service was excellent from the moment I walked in until the moment I left. This is a place I’ll visit every time I’m in the area! Without a doubt, this restaurant, and the entire staff deserves my recommendation for you to enjoy an incredible meal with the highest expectations of complete satisfaction!

Keep coming back because the tuna has ALWAYS been fresh. Love the outdoor patio seating and owners are very concerned with your experience and satisfaction.

Came here because Pizza Port was too crowded. We got four sushi rolls: California, Spicy Tuna, Aminater, and MC. Nothing was really great tasting. The spicy tuna roll had no flavor. It was a cute place inside and service was great, everyone was very nice and attentive. I gave three stars based off of the service but would not come back for sushi.

Meh Way too pricey. I feel like I’m paying for the owners rent to keep him living in Solana beach, at these prices! Ya its in Solana Beach but still way to pricey for what it is. The outside seating ambience is really the highlight of the restaurant. Really cool atmosphere. The rolls were good tasting but not spectacular. Eh, not my fave sushi spot.

I wish I could give this place no stars, our experience was just that bad! This place is definitely not worth $ 16 a roll and the manager was a real jerk. We had a dispute with our bill and the manager couldn’t have handled it any more poorly. To top it off, we were charged twice(2 separate amounts)!!! With so many great sushi spots in the area, don’t waste your time or money coming here.

Awww I LOVEEEEE the service! The owners are so cute! they’re so nice and they’re really chill and made my family and I laugh all night. Haha and the sushi was perfect. The tempura in the rolls was so hot and warm, I loved that about the rolls. went there for my 18th birthday dinner and was NOT disappointed. The Monkey roll was my favorite roll. Masuo was there and prepared the Hama Kamachi for us(I think that’s what it was called). I couldn’t believe that even Masuo was even there himself! overall such a lovely time and such greaT food and sushi. I’m trying the noodle bowl next time

Portions getting smaller on each visit! Sushi is competitive in this part of town. There are many comparable options with better prices and products. We used to enjoy coming here but even the rolls are less exotic than options within walking distance of this establishment.

We came here because of the good groupon deal and the great reviews. For us the reviews have lived up to the hype. Having started in sushi in the Seattle area this place compares very nicely in taste. Price wise it’s probably accurate be the wife and I look for bargains so there’s happy hour after 9pm & groupon. But you can’t use the groupon with the happy hour. Great food great ambience, great service. We dropped in with our infant twins and even though The place looks small from the street there’s actually plenty of room.

This place has truly gone downhill in a big way. The ownership recently changed, and they have people running the restaurant with no background in Asian cuisine… and this really shows! The old owners name was Mas(hence Masuos), and he had worked with Sushi and restaurant ownership longer then we knew him… which was for 20+ years. I frequented the restaurant and have seen the downfall take place in front of my own eyes. It is truly unfortunate that one of my past favorite restaurants, is now a place I will never visit. The quality of fish has gone way down, the same rolls on the menu are not anywhere near as good as they used to be. The service is sub par at best with staff acting very unprofessional at times. Not to mention they lost the best sushi chefs I have ever met(a couple of years ago)… If I were you, I would visit another sushi restaurant… perhaps Encinitas Sushi Lounge or Samurai Japanese Restaurant in Solana Beach.

I’m a fan for sure! Service was excellent, Fish was fresh, ambience is cozy… I’ll be back. I also like their creativity in the special rolls. I hate when most rolls have that krab filler, not here. I dined here solo one night and ordered the combo plate $ 22. It was the perfect amount for me. Includes chef selection of 3 sashemi and 3 sushi and your choice of ½ of any roll(even speciality rolls are included). I was having a hard time deciding because there are a ton to choose from. Went with Jayson and it was pretty good. I like the speciality rolls here better than Station Sushi.

Its a sad sad day for my asian self:( I was really hoping for the best for this place, especially since its located in the very beautiful city of Solana Beach. The first thing that caught my eye, was their sign that said 50% OFFSUSHI& the fact that they have an outside patio that looks out into the ocean… Walked into their small entrance and was immediately greeted by a gentlemen who gave me a run down of the menu and seating. I decided to sit out in the back patio which supposively they claimed it looked out into the ocean. HAHAHA more like into the back parking lot!!! lol The restaurant is very huge when it comes to seating, they even have a shack connected that also has a small bar. The interior of this place is very ran down, did not feel pleasing at all. Luckily, I was having sushi so that was the only thing keeping me there. Service was a bit slow and I was there right at 5pm(when happy hour starts) Their selection for happy hour prices on sushi arent all that great, and their sushi selection is pretty basic with a few«ohhhh-awwww what is that!?» When I ordered my hot sake, I found a small little black bug in my shot cup. My chair was rocky and with speakers set up around the place, their was no music playing… Overall, service was mehhh. Sushi was mediocore. The only thing that would ever make me say great things about this place or come back, is if they fixed all of the negatives that I mentioned. The owner doesnt need to know what I am talking about, walking into this restaurant its very easy to point out why this place is failing:/
